Competition The Race for 4th

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Important 3 points today.

Now 4 points behind ManU in 3rd place having played a game more,

And 4 points ahead of Newcastle in 6th place although they have 2 games in hand on us,

IMO, importantly we are now 9 points ahead of Liverpool, although they have 2 games in hand on us.

And we are now 14 points ahead of Chelsea, and although they have 14 games left to play, the gap might now be too great for them to finish in top 4, so maybe no CL football despite £600m spent since Boehly bought the in May 22. Wonder how that affects them financially from an FFP point of view as wages will be very high, and revenues without CL may not be big enough ?!

Got a cracking chance to get this season developing into a very decent one given the circumstances of our style and a stop start season.

Target needs to be top 4 and a cup now. Top 4 bare minimum. Today gave us a massive result to approach the business end of the season. I'm backing us to churn another CL finishing position out of it all

We are a freak of a club though.

Think of our play this season and comfortably 4th at present, with 2 or 3 players who have been so off compared to their usual standard.

Bizarre.

From 2024/25 PL will get an extra CL place - so Top 5 get into CL.

So if we get into CL next season it'll be 'easier' to keep getting into CL in the future, even though PL might well have more Sportswashing teams as competition.

I don't think qualifying for CL is an end in itself, but getting it allows Spurs to maximise revenue streams which in turn allow us to recruit better players (a) playing in CL is attractive to players we want to recruit and (b) bigger revenues means its easier to both buy better players and to pay their wages ...... provided we can avoid more Ndombele's through better recruitment that helps.

My guess is that when financial results for this season (Y/e 30 June 2023) are published (with a full season of football in the stadium plus revenues from 16 non football events and other revenues) we will have PL's 4th highest revenues - after ManCity, ManU and Liverpool so there's something to build on going forward.
If we go deep in the FA and CL could we catch 3rd?

Got to target winning this fa cup. A trophy is so important and with a lot of the big clubs out, it’s a massive opportunity. Top 4, Fa cup trophy and a nice little run in the CL. I’m realistic to know we got zero chance of winning it, but a nice little run into the Quarters/Semis. But, we need to win the Fa cup.

A few things have turned it for us:

- Emerson reborn
- Davies LWB (Perisic was a sieve)
- Skippy stepping up
- Rich getting minutes

Surprise win today puts us in a good position.

United will be tough but Liverpool are dropping points to all and sundry.

You can’t control that outcome with the Arab state still in it…. Just got to take games like Sheff Utd seriously

If the filth get a few injuries I’ve got no doubt we can go hunting. They look a good side at the moment but there’s not a huge amount of depth, hopefully Europa affects them

If only 4th was a trophy. The desire to regard it as one is a bit sickening tbh. It’s certainly clear that Levy regards 4th as a cup but some fans certainly do as well.

It's not a trophy......

But what is is a measurable marker that indicates we've had an above par season. If there's any notion of a 'prize'; to me at least, the prize is earning the right to play at the top level in Europe the following year.

............Unless you think we ought to expect nothing less than 3rd every season?
