Conte is bang on about the low expectations at the club and the comfortable atmosphere that has players like Davies making 300 appearances and Dier still starting every game.
I expected these kind of comments earlier on in his tenure and for him to really challenge the board but they never really came until now. I guess he was keeping it under wraps and now he knows the jig is up so is speaking freely.
I don't think it's a conscious thing where the players don't care but they know that failure is basically fine here.
The old guard (Lloris, Kane, Son, Dier, Davies, Sanchez) are supposed to be the senior figures in the dressing room but they have never experienced success at club level and they are in the latter stages of their careers. They are simply used to failing.
I think that creates an uninspiring culture and over time the new energy with winning mentality (Romero, Bentancur, Kulu, Porro) slowly gets worn down and start coasting like the others.
