Getting the right DOF is still more important. This guy oversee the footballing strategy for the foreseeable and outlast the next head coach hopefully.

As far as manager goes, despite being more excited about people like Nagelsmann, De Zerbi and Slot, I still think the most sensible choice for the mess we are in would be someone like Potter. He's a good coach, doesn't spend every fucking week clubbing to the media about only being able to work with the shit he's got, can work with footballers who aren't superstars and improve them, he won't be a tactical shock to our system - more a progressive evolution and won't render people like Porro, Spence and Udogie useless immediately.

Potter wouldn't get most of us sucking each other off, but would probably be a very shrewd choice if given some time to work.

That said, he doesn't even seem to be in the running.
It seems like a no-brainer to me.

He took an absolutely APPALLING Brighton team playing the most GODAWFUL football under Hughton. They survived by the skin of their teeth and only becuase there were 3 more awful teams in the division.

In 3 years (?) he got continual improvement playing some very attractive footie with some pretty average players. By the time he left they were in great form. 2 losses in the last 15, loads of goals, in 4th position.

Do we really think he wouldn't be able to get us a few positions up the table with the players we have?

His teams create chances for fun, if you can only afford Welbeck then you'll not get top 4 but you might challenge for the title with Kane and Son.

Fantastic record in Sweden beforehand, very decent job at Swansea with all his best players being sold.

Presume Levy not interested, or Potter doesn't want to work for him.

If so, then the best strategy would be to hack Brighton's systems to find who's at the top of their list to replace de Zerbi when he gets poached, maybe end of next season.

Appointing Potter now would be a disaster. We need an appointment to excite the fans. Mind you, on the basis the club seem to do anything but the right thing we’ll probably bring him or Brenton in.
Really?

This is the THFC equivalent of the Tory membership screaming for Bunter to be leader again.

We are not a cult. Fans should be excited about what gets delivered on the pitch not the next sexy name in the frame.

What is wrong with Potterball? His teams play smart, open, possession based football that creates shitloads of chances. Like any manager he will need time to implement his ideas and fans will have to be patient.

Who are the names that excite you and why?

Exactly!

The fans don't need to be excited. We have to get away from this need to be like kids who need the latest high energy celebrity sugar drink to give a short term high. It's time for grown up behaviour with sensible decisions with the short and long term in mind. We need stability, patience, a logical plan that makes sense on and off the pitch.

Over recent years it's been noticeable how many of our signings were overhyped, internet fans got too excited begging the club to break the bank for and they have turned out to be utter flops. Now we are in danger of making the same mistake with managers, some of the names are so overhyped and it seems noone is taking into account the chairman we have and the current state of the squad

Just makes most sense.

Finished joint top on goal difference with tiny AZ before the league got abandoned due to COVID and has now dragged Feyenoord to to the title within 3 years of management and has played great football doing it with inferior players to the teams around him.

Were 10/1 to win the league this season. Lost Malacia and Sinisterra in the summer yet sit 7 points clear with 3 games to go.

Plays 433 or 4231 which is much better for our personnel. Has a relentless press which has seen him have the best defensive record in the league and has improved young players.

Ticks all the boxes.
He's clearly done bloody well. Not quite every box. I'd say that experience in PL is pretty important. But it's getting to the stage when we'd have to take risks.

I actually do think that Potter would be a good, sensible appointment. But he would have to be given time both by the club and by the fans.

If given that we will be back to being the entertainers of the league for our one field product rather than off field tomfoolery.

We have been patient for over 20 years, is that not long enough, and yet being asked to wait again, with an egotistical chairman who won't change.
Yeah sure I'm all in, where do I sign up.

Was thinking about Nagelsmann and started to wonder if Kane uncertainty is the reason it broke down.

Would make a lot of sense because Bayern were clearly after Kane when he was there.
Maybe the club are placing a priority on the manager Kane wants in order to persuade him to sign a contract. Maybe they sounded him out and he’s not keen on Nagelsmann so couldn’t guarantee he would stay?

Conte definitely stipulated Kane had to stay on order for him to sign. I also think Conte didn’t sign a new deal because Kane hadn’t yet signed one either. It was a least a factor.
