Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I remember Levy rolling out the red carpet for Conte, cameras following them around the stadium and training ground iirc. For Ange it appears Levy is nowhere to be seen, a short vid from Ange, all seems like Levy couldn't give a fuck. Now we have these quotes that Ange has to "trust the academy" which we know is code for you have fuck all money to spend mate.

To Dare is Too Dear

Walob

It's very reminiscent of the Nuno appointment and announcement in many respects.

it’s nothing like the Nuno appointment.

Give Levy stick, he deserves it but to say the two appointments are reminiscent of each other is lazy and intellectually dishonest.

There is a reason so many Spurs fans are enjoying the Postecoglou appointment and that’s because it’s a good one.

Doesn’t mean any of us are in denial about the reality of ENICs ambition for the football team. It does mean some of us can see it will be fun and that Postecoglou has a chance to over achieve their ambition.

I can see similarities.

I think both appointments have sought to lower expectations of the fan base, whereas the Conte / Mourinho appointments did the opposite.

The announcements on the official website have both been pretty low key too.

Of course, regarding footballing style etc the two appointments are world's apart, but I wasn't referring to that in my post.

Apologies if that's what came across to you.

How has Ange been brought in to lower expectations?

I think expectations with Conte were that we would be challenging for the title. That's generally the feeling invoked when hiring a serial title winning manager. Misplaced, with Levy running the show, granted.

We've now hired a manager who has won nothing of note in any of the big 5 leagues. In fact,, he hasn't even managed in the big 5 leagues!

So the general feeling seems to be just getting back into Europe would be a success. A far cry from what we've been expecting in recent seasons. And what a club of our stature and wealth should be aspiring to.

In fact,. I'm seein multiple posts with people saying they'll just be happy to see decent football again! If that's not lowered expectations, I don't know what is!

Yes. I think the expectations across the fan base in terms of achievement have definitely been lowered.
Not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing. People can make their own mind up. But expectations are definitely lower than following the appointments of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho

Lower expectations? I don't think so. The eventual expectations for Ange are equally as high as those when Jose and Conte were appointed. The difference being that with Jose and Conte they were expected to be met in the immediate term, whereas with Ange they are more long term. Which actually makes sense, if the objective is to do a rebuild and realignment of the playing style.

You are always trying to find some angle to have a dig at Levy and the club, which I find pretty pathetic, only in this case there is none. On paper Ange is the perfect appointment for what the club needs right now: attacking and winning football, clearing out the players who don't want to put in the hard work and get behind his vision, and a personality that will unite the club. Comparing him to Nuno in any way, shape, or form is just you trying to further your agenda.

What are the expectations for Ange's first season?

What are they?

and

What they should be?

are very different..

They should be signs of evolution in the football played and top 6, maybe a strong cup run.

No way Levy will be selling it like that to Kane when he tries to sell him on a new contract, though. Not sure he could even admit that is the realistic aim to fans either.
Ok I take that on board, but I'm asking what the expectations are?

Levy probably expecting Top 4 and a Cup.
I doubt that's the short term goal. The longer term goal for sure. The immediate expectation is to reassess the squad, see a clear improvement in the playing style, and get alignment across the players, club and fans. The next step is for that playing style to eventually start translating into more wins. And only then would the expectation be top 4. How soon these things will happen is anyone's guess. But as long as directionally we are moving towards them, I think there will be patience by the fans and the club.

This is not like when we appointed Jose or Conte. This is more like when we appointed Poch.

But unlike comparing us to Hearts though, we do have the ability to make big money signings. Unlike City all ours have to be a success whereas they can just write off a bigger % of failures. But City alsohave much better scouting and recruitment to begin with. Brings me back to the fact we spend, but spend atrociously and then have less ability to bounce back from that.
They hit akanji and Alvarez fir about £35M combined. We spent how much on Soence, and porro to actually not end up with real quality to play rb!

Aswell as the step up in quality of the players who Postecoglou will now have to face. Btw, nothing has suggested so far that Postecoglou knows where to shop at this level. He might’ve gotten away with a few of his former Japanese players because SPL is closer to the quality of the Japanese league, but it won’t be the case anymore at Tottenham.

Will also be interesting if he can adapt himself to the brutal requirements of EPL, which is much less forgiving than SPL, or to put it right, Celtic in SPL.
It’s more a case of being tactically good enough and adaptability when coming up against teams who also like to play on the front foot and attack. How will he setup v city, pool, goons, Brighton, toon, etc and that doesn’t include Chavs. In SPL he could afford to go all out attack as the oppo is crap. Let’s see!
