They don’t. They’ve just got sexier names.

Rice puts up incredible defensive numbers and his ball carrying is excellent. He’s 2nd on the team sheet for England.

I cba doing this again because it’s pointless as everyone will see when he gets his big move. Rolls Royce of a defensive midfielder.
Kante was 36m in 2017.

Even with inflation that price isn’t double now and Rice isn’t close to a peak Kante.

The best EPL teams of the last 10 years have all had at least one player who's responsibility was to be a DM of some form or another.

Who plays this triple rotation thingy you speak of?

Maddison rotating into the deepest 1 of the 3 sounds disastrous.
Teams from years ago could all do it because they weren’t limited like players now who are not allowed to express themselves. I look at guys now like Rodri and they say he’s a defensive midfielder but he can score goals. Rice could score more but not really allowed to express himself enough. You could go through most teams in EPL and they have a player that sits but can offer more. Too much fear in the game from coaches to play a way that players can rotate. Teams do have a defensive midfielder but when people start talking 8s and 10a it’s fucking shit. They are midfielders that get forward and play and join in the attack. Pigeonhole pish. Barca were amazing at it with Xavi, iniesta and Busquets. All could rotate because they never gave the ball away.

Just cos they are able to push up a bit and hit the odd 20 yard screamer when game-play allows doesn't mean the following didn't have fundamental responsibilities from a deeper/defensive point of view :

Rodri (and Fernandino before him) is blatantly that player for City.
Liverpool had Fabhino
Conte's Chavs had Matic.... Plus Kante running round like a nutter breaking up play everywhere.
Poch had Wanyama..... Plus Dembele who wasn't the most attacking-focussed of players.

Fair to say that's the best EPL teams of the last decade..... Yet you think Pep, Klopp, Poch & Conte all did this out of "fear"?

Similarly; Busquets was blatantly that guy for Barca.

I'd like us to get another striker so if kane sees last year out with us another striker has a year to bed in. Not sure lankshear and Devine are ready to step up to mark. Hope lankshear does well tbh as hes a tottenham fan.

No word of a lie somewhere on here said they were interested to see what Ange could do with him the other day.

I nearly dropped my phone.
Too many people (levy especially) think that a good manager is all you need

Don't need good players if a good manager is in place

Ange may be a fantastic manager but he'll fail with this current squad , major surgery needed

As it always has been......45 Levy transfer windows and a few people still can't see it.
The ENIC way = The cheap way.

There's a reason we've become the most profitable football club on the planet while achieving absolutely Fuck All on the pitch.
I get that we seem to penny pinch but It's not always the total cheapskate way tbf.
I suppose It depends on who you compare us against.

Since appointing Conte we have the 5th highest net spend in the league of just under £155m which is probably about right for a club our size.
Think if Antonio hadn't lost his shit we would have finished top 5.

Chelsea spent obscene amounts to finish below us.

Apart from them only Man U, Newcastle & oddly Notts forest spent more.
