The opportunity to get a world-class player and win things.
Therein lies the problem, though. Getting a world class player does not guarantee winning things. Ask PSG who have been in as many CL finals as us.

You may be better off getting two very solid players for the same money, that will actually make the team better than the one world class one.

I guess if Kane believes in their quality and has a personal affinity with them, that could help convince him to stay.

Imagine in your workplace, you are doing very well and hate the company politics and are thinking of leaving - if they bring in a couple of people you know can do a good job and like, it may sway you towards staying, no?

Of course, a ‘normal job’ is different but you get my point.
If we're buying players to keep Kane happy, then no one at the club has learned a lesson from the past 4-5 years.

We should be aiming to build an exciting team, play in certain style, and establish a footballing philosophy that will transcend managers and players. If that's enough to keep Kane, great. If not, adios.

The opportunity cost is the ability to strengthen meaningfully in several positions (like you say) and also perhaps the added pressure to selling players.

You also don’t spread risk when you buy one big player instead of multiple mid players.

Excluding Bellingham… How many of these top 10 most expensive players were worth the outlay:

1. Neymar to PSG - £198m
2. Mbappe to PSG - £163m
3. Coutinho to Barcelona - £105m
4. Joao Felix to Atletico Madrid - £113m
5. Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea - £107m
6. Griezmann to Barcelona - £107m
7. Grealish to City - £100m
8. Lukaku to Chelsea - 97.5m
9. Dembele to Barca and Pogba to Man Utd - £89m

Coutinho, Felix, Griezmann, Lukaku, Dembele and Pogba look like obvious NOs.
Neymar, Mbappé and Enzo MAYBEs
Grealish YES

Expensive transfers are rarely clear successes. Does rice deserve to be joint 7th most expensive player in history?

I don’t think so.

Conor Gallagher.

We’ve already moved through the five stages of grief and are at acceptance.
I Give Up GIF
Why? He’s obviously a good player in the right setup.

I'd suggest Grealish hasn't been transformative and Enzo has showed no signs of being so thus far either.

If either us, Arse & Dippers spent £100m on a single player I'd 'want' them to be transformative or elevate the way we play. Van Dyke style impact....... With regards to RM, PSG and other such free-spenders the expectations are different.

PSG win things.

2 solid players don’t guarantee both work out.

As we have found out, 40-60m range is one of the hardest to shop in

He would be a top upgrade for Hojbjerg. Chelsea have to get rid a few players so I would definitely take him. He is a very hard worker, box to box can create and score goals.

Definitely worth considering among our options depending on who’s on our list.
Don’t really have a strong opinion on him.

Homegrown.

Never really excited when I’ve watched him. Maybe better suited to the deeper 8 than Hojberg?

I’d still prefer Scott personally even if he’s a year or 2 behind. Even Hatate for the deeper 8.

Then Eze for the advanced 8.

I whole heartedly agree with all of this, except you need to swiftly move Mbappe into the yes column
