Newcastle possibly signing Barella for 50M is fucking annoying
Whether they sign him or not, remains to be seen, but with their wealth they are, going to start attracting the better/ best players.
Whether people agree or disagree, that is the truth of it, it won't take them long to climb the ladder towards instant success.
We live in the real world, where money is king, and not some fantasy notion of organic growth and earning it the right way.

Didn’t Lampard give him a good run and he was bang average?

To repeat, buy Eze for 40-50m, Palace buy this guy for 25.

Everyone a winner

Has anyone not looked bang average under Lampard?

I think judging any Chelsea player under Lampard would be like judging any Spurs player under Sherwood. And I remember a fair few wanting the likes of Dembele gone.

Gallagher is a better player than most give him credit for tbh

but bringing Neymar into the equation even strengthens my resolve - and someone mentioned Messi above - the effort and contribution of those three players are not the same. One is 35, the other turns up/shows up when he wants, then there's Mbappe.

Neymar has essentially been allowed to do whatever Neymar wants to do, and when that has been challenged he's done it anyway. The lack of professionalism shown by such a talent (and you could argue this of Messi too, on occasion) has been staggering given his fee. Mbappe has prospered in spite of this. Neymar's played just over 50% of the available games since they signed him, and Mbappe has scored nearly twice as many goals as him despite them being at the club for the same length of time.

Honestly, Neymar (and Messi) are not the sticks to beat Mbappe with. PSG's problems may lie with the former but far from the latter

Yeh, I've not gone as far as to call Mbappe a problem nor am i suggesting that his upside doesn't exceed that of Neymar.

For me the fact remains however, that when you're as well resourced as PSG are in a monololised league then your stars ought to be judged on the biggest stage available to them. That he tears up the french league with a bazillion dollar supporting cast colours me un-impressed.

Potentially just media putting taking a guess since Eze is also with CAA Base (agent with who we have done a lot of business with - Porro, Richy, Son, Dele, Davies. Maddison also with them.

I do wonder if with Southampton being relegated, it could be a good opportunity to bring Walker-Peters back in as a squad player to satisfy our home-grown limit. If Porro is converted into a winger, KWP could be backup for Royal.
That'll depend on whether Ange is convinced, or not, by Spence.

I do like KWP though, who I feel is underrated.

He has 34 goals and 26 assists in 52 champions league games for PSG. Me thinks it would take something otherworldly to colour you impressed. One man can not win you a knockout tournament without huge slices of luck, he has delivered on that stage as best he can (again, in spite of his supporting acts)

If Chelsea are desperate to dump players late in the window, I'd ask about Broja. Tore his ACL in December, so he'd likely not be available until 2024 and probably not be 100% until 24/25. However, he's still only 21 years old and was pretty dynamic with Southampton in 21/22. If we're squad building, he'd be worth looking at long term.

Perhaps let's wait a little to claim that Raya is a big upgrade on a guy who won the WC, reached another final, same in the Euros, played tens of CL matches...and saved us many, many points over the years with his incredible saves
He's certainly not an upgrade on prime Lloris, but he's definitely an upgrade on a declined Lloris.

Hugo has been a fantastic servant to us over the last decade, but all good things come to an end.

Amazing to see stories of Sancho gathering pace.

Not because I want him. I thought he was overrated before United signed him.
Because if we really don't want to sell Kane to United for any price, we absolutely won't be sniffing around any of their players.

So either it's absolute BS (likely) or we're considering a player + cash deal with Kane going there.
its BS

You say "in spite of" his team-mates, but a big criticism surrounding that team is that none of the front line are prepared to press........... Why not the youngest and most athletic of the three?

PSG should be strolling the group stages ever year..... Should they be getting knocked out in the R16 4/6 seasons?

Look; there's an awful lot of middle ground involved between being declared a dud (which I've not done in the slightest!) and expectations surrounding the most expensive player of all time.

(We've probably reached an impasse here... I don't see the sense in labouring any further..... Final word is yours shoud you see fit.)

€20m sounds like bs

If true, that’s great value for a real DM and specialist 6. I guess that means Hoj would be off and Bissouma/Bentancur would rotate as the deeper 8, with Skipp focused on the 6 role with this guy.

He’s going to Bayern if it’s a serious choice though

I dunno, €20M is a good starting point if you want a bidding war, auctioneers do it all the time. Start below the reserve price to get those with less money to stick a bid in, hoping to snare a bargain. Then the serious bidders will move in and take the money too far North for those with a smaller budget.

If they get enough interest, they could get about €30-40M for him, I reckon, possibly more.

I suspect they aren't really looking at Maquire. I don't think Maquire is as bad as people make him out to be. He has good size and works hard. But can he handle making quick sharp passes and does he have the pace to get back? Somewhat similar to Dier and if you already have him why would you want another player with many of the same attributes?
I kinda agree with you here. A CB is often exposed by whats in front of them. Lisandro Martinez looks good but he has Casemiro in front now when most of Maguire's time has been with Fred in front of him. Also our cbs have looked rotten but under Conte they were always up against a cavalcade with no protection from a stupid 2 in CM. Who knows maybe even Dier improves under an Ange system.

I said maybe.....

Then we swoop in and sell Hojbjerg to whoever misses out?

Point made.

Our fanbase doesn't really have a clue what they want. But I guess that's our lack of identity as a club.

You have some people wanting us to be a selling club like Dortmund or Brighton. Who brings in good young players to sell them on for profit, rinse repeat.

You then have some who want us to spend big on big names in a league that has five clubs bigger than us and three of the richest clubs in world football where competitive edge plays a part.

Then there's other who want us to back managers. But then complain about the people we are linked with. Want us to pay the money for players the manager wants. Only to complain about the player we spent big on after a few games.

What do we actually want?
A fucking slap!
