Not sure we are at the stage yet that it's likely we get either.

I think this summer there are a number of very good left central defenders on the market that could be bought. The thing is there will be more than enough for all those clubs In need

Tapsoba
VdV
Lukeba
Inacio
Silva
Gvardiol
Laporte

Liverpool are looking at VdV, Inacio and Tapsoba. Chelsea have been linked with Gvardiol and Lukeba, Man City with Gvardiol, Laporte isn't coming here but he will fill a slot somewhere which removes that club as competition for the others.

There is no reason why we can't end up with one of Tapsoba, VdV, Lukeba or Inacio

By the way we'd have to find something else to call him - hopefully we all agree there's only one VDV connected with this club, oh to have player like him right now... So we'd have to call this new chap something else. :)

EDIT: For those old enough to remember, I suggest we'd call him Mickey and use the old Toni Basil song whenver he did anything particularly good. ;)
Call him Junior?

Tbh, age, profile, experience…. Reasonable AF at €40m

30m E.

Edit: Says 18m E in the URL???

Obv Ake and VVD in front of him for the Dutch inter team but I don't think he has even been in the squad? Was in preliminary squad for 2022 WC.
7 U21 apps.

“There’s a chance for me to leave this summer. If a nice club with good plan arrives… I’d be open.”

Van de Ven’s agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez also confirmed last week that there were several clubs interested in his client.

Talks have reportedly already taken place between Tottenham and the defender who has four years remaining on his existing contract in Germany.

When you say winger, do you mean the wide forward in a 433? I wonder whether someone like Porro, GLC or even Ndom / Perisic plays that role? Porro definitely could IMO. GLC/Ndom possibly if he wants 8’s running beyond them (obv unlikely to be them but stylistically it’s poss). If he wants a wide touch line bigger than perhaps Perisic but tend to think he likes dribblers not crossers

Personally I think Gill is a middle third player and doesn’t have enough punch / snap to be a wide fwd
I’d like to see two centre backs on wick FB like city play and the other FB pushing up. So basically 3331 with Harry up top and behind son madd/ano no10/ kulu. Swap outs for them would be from Gil/rich / ANO am.
Behind them biss/bent/ pushed up FB where fb on other side would drop deeper. The FBs would take it in turn to push into midfield.

I don’t see it as “selling” . It’s recognising when a player is about to exit his peak and taking advantage of his established reputation to get a great fee that you can reinvest at a higher level. Otherwise you are left writing off a lot of waste that you could have got something for. Also you need to freshen up the group from time-to-time. Familiarity breeds contempt.

Are Madrid, City and Chelsea also selling clubs? Because they have also raked in lots from letting players go over the past decade.

We haven’t “sold” anyone we didn’t want to since Bale. Poch was happy to let Walker go for example.

Thinking that you are Cosplaying a big club by not selling normally results in just having waste and deadwood cluttering your squad.
Absolutely.

Recognising the time to sell a top player is as important as recognising his replacement before he becomes too well known.

Squad refresh is massive, Ferguson proved that.
