have we even completed our first signing yet?

'Am I defending the quality of the quoted post?' I'm going to be honest I don't even know what that means. Are you asking me if I agree with the content? That might make sense, we are not at school (and I'm not the teacher)so it's subjective 'quality' wouldn't come into it.

If my statement was any kind of critique, then it would be in regard of the authorial tone. With you it oftentimes seems to come down to that. You can be insightful, intresting and perceptive. But mostly there is a tone: brittle, whiney, and pompous above all. You can be a hard read.
I had been engaging in on-topic good faith discussion about transfer strategy. You can agree or disagree and that’s fine.

Trauma hound then makes a disingenuous post looking to ridicule the discussion without adding anything of value.

You then intervene to say that I have the issue with tone?

I dont even want to change your view that my tone is as you describe. But I do think a reasonable person would say the issue with tone and content lay more with trauma hound than anything I had posted. But like Farage and Johnson on the BBC, kooky idiots around here get a pass.

Either we’re interested in meaningful discussion or we’re not.

Or get in there early and pitch a better sale.

He'd likely get far less minutes with Liverpool than us, as he's competing with VVD. Here he's competing with Ben Davies.
Hopefully not with davies home. Keep saying these players should have gone ages ago but the 2 Dino managers loved them in their 8 man defence. Now we are gonna play a different attack ing system , well on osier we are, players like davies need to move on.

Fine if he wants to. Sell him for a load of dosh and pick up the next talent. No player should be irreplaceable, if you have a proper system, philosophy, and scouting in place.
Exactly this. Brighton are doing it and being lauded for it.

The difference is that if the system works, and we get back into contention, we're less likely to have players kicking up a fuss to join "bigger" clubs. If they do though, we'll be getting a bumper payday and, as you've already said, we should already have the next talent analysed, scouted and either understudying already, or be ready to recruit them in that window.

I think he'd be the perfect signing for us... And can really see him at Spurs...

But I thought that about Ndombele and Lo Celso, so the fuck do I know?

All I know is that in Dele's case - for reasons best known to him - decided to squander his undoubted talent and piss it all up nightclub walls...
I'm not saying his form dipped 'cos of Poch or bad management, it all seemed very much self inflicted.

Yet you look at how other clubs manage their players (Grealish at City for example) could've and did start to go down a very similar route at first, but the club got him to knuckle down, and now he only saves his public piss ups for AFTER the trophies are won, not halfway through the season!

It's a shame, cos we had such a player there in Dele... we HAD him!
...and then it all went away again....
Dele got his head turned badly, and we didn't intervene quickly enough... the signs WERE there though!

I can just see some occasional similarities with Maddison, thass all...

Hopefully Ange won't take any shit from any fucker who doesn't wanna give their all at ALL times.
How do you know what Maddison gets up to and his outside football activities ? By all accounts he speaks very about football and his analysis is great. Seems far more intelligent than given credit fir. Further think his settled down and has kids or expecting first child. Som completely diff to dele who was chasing anything in a skirt.

Exactly ccv sounds like a step back. Ofc he looks good in SPL any quarter decent player would. This would just be showing Ange having no clue about the epl and thinking he can bring from his ex clubs in lower standard leagues abd foi g the biz in epl.

A lot of players that perform well in Scotland also do in the Premier League.
It's probably a more consistent transition than coming from France, Spain or Italy.

Turkish side Fenerbahce have reportedly made contact with Ivan Perisic’s agent with a view to securing a summer move for the Croatian star.

Perisic was signed on a free transfer by Tottenham last summer from Inter Milan, and it was hoped the veteran could successfully link up with his former manager Antonio Conte in North London.

Ivan Perisic during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Tottenham Hotspur

Despite registering 12 assists in all competitions for Spurs from the left wing-back position (Transfermarkt), there is a sense that things did not quite go to plan for Perisic in his debut season for the Lilywhites.

It has previously been suggested that, with Conte now gone, Perisic would be keen to head back to Inter Milan this summer (Inter Live).

Wherever he ends up, Football.London have claimed Perisic is very likely to be one of the departures from Ange Postecoglou’s squad during this transfer window.

Ivan Perisic approached by Fenerbahce
Now, the latest report from Turkish outlet Takvim has named Fenerbahce as the club making strides in attempting to sign Perisic.

Apparently, Fenerbahce have already “started negotiations” for the move and have been speaking to the 34-year-old’s representatives to sound out his interest in playing in Turkey.

With other clubs keen on acquiring Perisic’s services, it seems Fenerbahce have “gone on the attack” in order to get the deal across the line and beat off the competition.

The report does not state the details of any potential offer for the player, but it certainly sounds like Fenerbahce are serious about their interest. Whether Perisic would accept or not remains to be seen.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would imagine Perisic has his heart set on returning to Italy in some capacity, whether that be with Inter or not. A move to Turkey would definitely be a drop in standard for Perisic and I just don’t know that he’s ready to accept that.

The level of risk is reflected in transfer of his opinion of worth of the player though. In this regard we are right that Raya’s price was too high at £40m (and above his value too if you ask the market as nobody wants to pay it) and we probably think that Middison’s valuation isn’t worth it at £60m either, which is probably right. If that is the case then I expect we will move on.

The difference with Maddison over Raya though is that Leicester haven’t set a price like Brentford did because they just need the money and are obviously willing to negotiate the price. It’s why I think it will drag until we either move on or someone richer than us comes in for him.
They haven't set a price? Where's the £60M come from then? I'm pretty sure this has been reported by numerous sources. One even quoted the sum and stated that we've offered half of that.

I make you right though, it is likely that it will drag on if Leicester have their hearts set on getting silly money.

But they've already been blown out by one suitor in Newcastle, and there appear to be no others showing much of an interest. You then have to factor in the player and where he wants to go if the price drops. We're in there early, he seems to want to come to Spurs, even when there was interest from Newcastle as well, we've already demonstrated to him that he's a first choice, so we've shown intent. Everyone else coming in, when the price goes down, is essentially throwing their hat in the ring to try and pick up a quality "addition" relatively cheaply.

That's my theory anyway, which could be wide of the mark.
