To be fair, I can understand the trepidation here. We do have form, so the only way the club are going to appease the cynical is to do the business in a timely manner.
The plain fact of the matter is that we DO need at least 2 CB's, we've identified our 2 prime candidates, and both are interested incoming to us.
Allegedly, we've identified Tapsoba as one who will be huge. If such us the case, and we're quibbling over a few million quid, then any concerns are legitimate. It would be foolish in the extreme to miss out on your top target if they want say £10M more than your evaluation, but that player could be worth at least double that, if he's an integral part of getting you into CL where that £10M is eaten up and then some. Not to mention that, IF he is integral, then his value increases anyway.
If the club are convinced he is going to be huge, there's really no excuse NOT to get the deal done.
We all know that there are around 4 parties that need to align on a deal. By the sounds of it, we already have 2-3 of those sorted out. If the last hurdle is finding a price that both parties can agree on, then the onus sits with us.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if they're not trying to pull our pants down on price, and I've seen nothing to suggest that they are, then maybe we need to accept that a slightly higher price is still a win for us if we get the quality we believe he will end up being.
We've already spent North of £40M on Romero, because we saw his potential. Aren't Tapsoba and VDV the same?
