Pure whataboutery. But thanks, you've answered my question.
Your post was pure hysterical conjecture.

Your argument was that this bad thing will affect our reputation enough to stop us doing things we need to do. I gave a COUNTER-EXAMPLE to show that another club doing FAR WORSE things hasn’t stopped them at all which undermines your claim that bad guy owners stop their club from doing stuff.

Words like « whatabouttery » are not a substitute for thinking.

The new away kit.

Currently this has nothing to do with the club or Levy as it stands. Long as they keep their heads down and get on with supporting the manager (big if!) it won’t impact us.

However to say it’s embarrassing is an understatement. Owned by a crook is not a good look and yes we have dictators running clubs in the league but we are part of the mud now.

Of course it will affect our reputation. Its yet another embarrassment. I care about the club and it not being humilated not the current owners who are just passing through. As for Newcastle, yes players will want to sign for them because of the lure of money and upcoming success, similar to sponsors but they're not pretending to do it 'the right way' . Lets not kid ourselves they are popular and not reviled elsewhere. For the record i wouldnt want their owners either.

Wow. You don’t go on camera like that unless you busted a top criminal believing you are going to win in a big glamour case. Joe is in trouble. He will need to spend big on defence.

Just read up online. He’s fucked.
In what way ? So far we have seen no defence ( like his football club 😂). Innocent until proven otherwise.

Also the average sentence handed out in such cases seems to be about 18 months.

He’s in his late 80’s. He ain’t doing 18 hours inside. And the maximum individual fine is, it seems, $5m. $6.6 billion less $5m is about half of one Matt Doherty 👍. Uncle Joe’s pool ain’t going cold. Worse case he accepts the charge, does a deal and moves on.

Without “Tottenham” being part of the story there really does not seem to be any reason for the headline news. And he is no longer connected to Spurs in a personally significant way ( allegedly )

There is something odd about the whole thing. It’s not exactly nice how Billionaire Joe made his cash way back when. So finding out that he has no morals is not exactly good detective work.

All this mere hours after we hear that David “the porn king” Sullivan left Loughton cop shop, but that’s not news.

But being linked to a regime which murdered journalists, makes women second class citizens, and deliberately starving and targeting thousands of civilians in the Yemeni war for the past decade… none of those things will affect Newcastle… but you think a white-collar crime committed by someone who has shown 0 active involvement in the club will stop us from doing anything we want?

You are complete melts.

I have no time for Joe Lewis as owner of Spurs, none at all. He has been charged with insider Trading. The key word is charged. No poster here has seen any evidence about what he has supposedly done. He will be investigated and possible , just possibly at his age stand trial. He may be guilty of the charges, he may be innocent of the charges. However, all the comments by posters are all about him being guilty. Hope none,of you are on a jury for any trial I might be involved in. Innocent until proven guilty Is a principle of British Law, a principle which is our right. The Saudi countries are always, critiscised for their barbaric legal system, but what can we say about people who do not appreciate our own.

I think we are looking at this in so far as the chances of Lewis being guilty are extremely high. The US Government is not in the habit of bringing charges against foreign billionaires without a very strong case.

They aren't taking an educated guess that they have something on Lewis. I'd say they are 95% certain of getting a conviction.

Ive already explained why it’s not whatabboutery. Whatabouttery is when you try to deflect from a moral wrong by saying others have done it too. Clearly different from what I was doing.

Let me help you with a counter argument though.
1) You could argue there’s a difference between Lewis and Saudi Arabia that means Tottenham would be affected but Newcastle would not.
2) You could argue Newcastle have been affected.
3) You could argue the connection between Saudi Arabia and Newcastle is materially different than the connection between Lewis and Tottenham and that this difference would be important to those who we do business with.
There are other possible replies too but this isn’t whatabouttery.

I wonder what his comeuppance will be? Probably a fine that he can easily afford to pay.
I don’t know about that, this whole operation is part of a huge crackdown in America on illegal/insider trading, they are looking to make examples of people, especially foreigners getting rich there. Fining a filthy rich guy really isn’t gonna make much of an impact. Seizing property and assets would be the next step up, prison? Might be a stretch to far.
