A lot of my assumption is underpinned by the fact that our recruitment has been incredibly poor for so long.
I find it easy to believe that we passed up on Eze and Olise in favour of a Bergwijn, maybe it's because we felt sting by signings like Clarke and Sess, maybe it was just a timing issue, maybe it was s manager at the time call...
But I personally find that more likely than we bid for those players and were turned down, and it went unreported, especially when you consider the glee the media seem to take in having a pop at Spurs.
Whatever the reason it is frustrating as they would have been useful for a number of reasons over some of the signings we did make. I'm not fussed about Bowen ftr, and I'm not even mad about signing Gil because I think there's a good player there. He just doesn't tick as many boxes as the Palace lads for us.
If we were told the players weren't interested, then that in itself points to a failing of the club, that we don't have a pathway to first team football for talented youngsters.
Finally, for me, Alex Scott just seems like an obvious win, I'm confident you're right that we'll be kicking ourselves in a matter of months and he'll be priced way out of reach by the time we wake up to it. And in 4 years when his contract status is on our radar we'll have to hope he's been good but not THAT good that bigger clubs are after him.
We weren't gazzumped either, we tried to gazzump Liverpool, who had a pre-existing agreement for Diaz. He was only ever going to the dippers.

Or does Levy in his heart of hearts believe that finishing 4th would require too much investment, that shooting for the CL this year is unrealistic, and as such he's unwilling to invest a lot of cash into the attempt?
That might be a reasonable conclusion, but if we are in a rebuilding mode then why are we simply holding the cards we've got instead of rebuilding?

Yes, that's something in between doing the hard work of rebuilding and trying to challenge for the CL... like trying to tread water for now.
It's all puzzling and no two things match about what we've done this offseason....
tbf that's an improvement for our medical team tbh. Only took them months to work out he needs surgery.
Only upside is that we can leave him unregistered in the PL squad lol… still what an unmitigated disaster.
Imo, its 100% a typical levy window and I was fully expecting it....so I've laid in crates and crates od single malt to help me through the season now I'm semi retired.
I don't think we should rush into things you know.
