A lot of my assumption is underpinned by the fact that our recruitment has been incredibly poor for so long.Seems like you're doing as much - if not more - assuming than you accused me of at this point...... But:
The question remains; why are they not bidding? Could it be that after conversations with the player and his agent that the move is deemed not right for the kid and the interest doesn't progress to the bidding stage? .......Could that not equally be the case with us too?
We were reported to be interested in both Eze & Bowen for extended periods of time (can't recall re: Olise); so why would we then (as you point out below) then fuck that off and spend even more money of Steven Bergwijn?
Dude.... You literally just made the following statement:
"I'm 95% certain based on not much in particular that if we went for Scott he'd choose us over the other clubs discussed"
.......And by your own indication; it clearly wasn't a case of them being too costly; so therefore something else was presumably at play.
Was choosing Bergwijn over Eze a poor decision? If it was nothing more than a simple case of that then sure..... But presumably we didn't just spend double the fee on Berg for fun.
We weren't gazzumped either, we tried to gazzump Liverpool, who had a pre-existing agreement for Diaz. He was only ever going to the dippers. How lucky was that?
Diaz is more fragile than Lo Celso and has the same flash/output ratio as Antony.
Sadly so long as the balance sheet stays black, he doesn't really care. We're an asset to him, not a football team. Only relegation will change this.
Not one brick eh?
I don't think buying Maddison and appointing a non PL manager can be described as rebuilding....more like sticking polyfiller in the holes...Or does Levy in his heart of hearts believe that finishing 4th would require too much investment, that shooting for the CL this year is unrealistic, and as such he's unwilling to invest a lot of cash into the attempt?
That might be a reasonable conclusion, but if we are in a rebuilding mode then why are we simply holding the cards we've got instead of rebuilding?

Hope they shave him while he's asleep....

Imo, its 100% a typical levy window and I was fully expecting it....so I've laid in crates and crates od single malt to help me through the season now I'm semi retired.Yes, that's something in between doing the hard work of rebuilding and trying to challenge for the CL... like trying to tread water for now.
It's all puzzling and no two things match about what we've done this offseason....
Fat chance of that round here!So we'll have Gift to partner Destiny. Just need to sign someone named Hope now.

Transfers - Summer Transfer Thread 2023!
To sum it up both have rather glaring deficiencies that do not complement the side around them well. And more than anything, deficiencies such are these limits the upside of a prospect.
In Veiga, his lack of passing and reliance on pace, reactivity, luck and overperforming Goals/Assists reminds me so much of Paulinho/Dele… if they aren’t scoring they’re basically doing fuck all… and in a side with Son and Richarlison, we can’t afford two players like that in our attack.
In Van de Ven, his complete lack of aggression and shocking aerial ability doesn’t solve problems for us. Sure he can run over 30 yards but can he step into a tackle? Can he command a physical striker or take charge aerially us on set pieces? The videos I’ve posted show that he cannot. His aerial ability is so frighteningly bad.
