There shouldn't be a spending target as such. Only that the necessary recruitment is done to the extent possible.

Any smart person knows how much they can afford to spend/lose when they walk into an auction, casino or wherever....... Budgets v final actual spend needn't transpire to be one and the same, but it is 100% practical and sensible to set one for yourself at the begining of every window.

If nothing else; you won't otherwise know how much you can afford to apportion to each position/need.

Though I suppose for a club like ours somewhere north of £150m should feasible for 3/4 years with one or two lean years in between.

Any substance/reason behind to that £150m figure?

It's significantly higher than those in our income bracket........

Spurs (m/euros):
22/23 in 177.9 out 38.7 = 139.2m(*)
21/22 in 95.9 out 34.6 = 61.3m
20/21 in 110.50 out 13.3 = 97.2m
19/20 in 150.5 out 64.5 = 86m
= €383.7m (net spend) / Avg per season = €95.92m

(*and no; that total doesn't include the much squabbled over Kulu & Porro fees)

Arse (m/euros):
22/23 in 192.3 out 23.8 = 168.5m
21/22 in 167.40 out 31.4 = 136.0m
20/21 in 86 out 19.1 = 66.9m
19/20 in 160.8 out 53.6 = 107.2m
= €478.6m (net spend) / Avg per season = €119.65m

Liverpool (m/euros):

22/23 in 137.3 out 80.7 = 56.6m
21/22 in 87.0 out 29.5 = 57.5m
20/21 in 84.0 out 17.2 = 66.8m
19/20 in 10.4 out 48.0 = -37.6m
= €143.3m (net spend) / Avg per season = €35.82m

Given our biggest rivals are spending approx 230m net this season and we're the ones who need to play catch-up and rebuild, something similar would be nice. Our revenue is extremely comparable and there is no reason for us to accept less.

I personally don't believe that Net spend is a good way to assess the quality of a rebuild. Considering the players that are shining at Spurs this season so far all cost less than 1 Declan Rice I think we have to assess our catching up on whether or not we catch up with them on the pitch, and not in the net spend league

a) He won't.

b) He'll still end up out the door sooner rather than later. These first murmurs of 'Ange doesn't rate me as much as I thought waaa' are just the beginning.

Him and Ndombele are lost causes at Spurs. GLC is the much more salvageable one of the two and a decent footballer, but he'll never accept being a squaddie which is all he's good enough to be.
You don't think these murmurs might be bullshit for clicks from fans in Spain that want GLC to come back?

It's mad that we know there isn't a reason but we also know there isn't a Spurs fan alive that thinks Levy is ever going to spend as aggressively as their owners.

Been reading on newsnow orban prefers a move to lille. We better start sorting this striker situation out as we could end up like pavlyuchenko and campbell a few seasons back that cost Ramos his job. Need to get moving imo as it's a long season and realistically we needed at least one striker but I'd prefer two (form and injuries).

A guess. Given we seemed to be spending about 100m a year since Poch's final season, and we're in a very comfortable financial situation and our growing commercial revenue, that's what I went for.

Supposing we spend 150m a year for 3/4 years we should (in theory) have the core of a decent squad, so that we don't need to spend much for a while. Similar how RM bought stars like Benzema, Bale, Ronaldo, Ramos etc. and then had a very low net spend for like 5 years, cos all they needed to do was buy Courtois, and a bunch of wunderkinds from Brazil, while offloading the likes of Reguilon, Kovacic, and Morata for very nice fees.

I hope the David rumours are true. I'm biased as a Canadian, but I really like him. He's a good finisher, works hard and from the limited viewing of Ange and his system, I think David would fit the system well.

And yeah, maybe Orban would be amazing if his growth continues, but it's been a short rise for him. Maybe we should buy both and if we end up with two good young CFs, that's not the worst problem for a club to have.
It is when you can't play both of them. The one played sparingly will devalue very quickly.
