This is so boring. Spurs match still ages away and there's no actual new transfers in or out.

Been two weeks since Kane left!
Its Been A Long Time Waiting GIF

feels like it at least

Richarlison had scored 7 and 10 goals the two seasons before we signed him. Excuses can be made that he was at everton etc etc but those numbers cant be categorised as good. Same with Johnson's 8 goals. Nothing that exciting at all.
£110M combined fir that ! Unbelievable really. Why not find some players like Brighton do? Where is all the Ange knows the Asian market? Not seen one link with any Asian players. Johnson would be such an underwhelming signing. Where did the bloody links come from in the first place?

I actually like Johnson, good PL player, great athlete, very direct. Harvey Barnes level player, which isn't bad as squad depth. Not sure why we'd be targeting him now tbh, I do think we need pace and power, but not much in his skillset makes me think his signing helps us bridge the gap to top clubs.
Should have just got Barnes much better goal scoring record and would have been less money.

Gakpo scored those 7 goals from 1400 minutes Johnson his 8 in 2900 . Similar goals in more than twice the amount of time.

Rather go with Scarlett.
Gapko looked good in the World Cup. Can play in an 8 or front 3 abd is technically better than Johnson. If we get Johnson he will be added to list of players we have splunked huge fees on fir very little gain. Clever signings is what is needed.

But that's the whole thing, it's concentric circles of mistakes, a Russian Nesting Doll of mistakes.

Every time you look at the deal from a new angle, or in new lighting, a new failure reveals itself.

It's Levy's masterpiece, as I said. His magnum opus, the fullest realization of how bad he is at this. It's exquisite.
Porro had sold for 8.5m in the summer window just four months earlier. Man City had a buyback clause at about 17m which they chose not to exercise. He was playing in the Portuguese league. That probably tells you everything about his actual value when the window opened relative to his insanely high release clause — not unusual in the Iberian leagues where clauses are, I believe, mandatory. As another example, Marcus Edwards own clause is set at 50m!

January is a notoriously difficult time to do a transfer regardless. Clubs fighting for honors and still in cup competitions are loathe to give up their best assets.
Just about everyone is overvalued. The previous January we were the only top club, I think, that improved (with Bentancur / Kulu). Of course, this is completely lost on most fans who just want shiny new things.

Wiggy had not signed a new contract and showed absolutely no inclination to do so. Anyone who has read his resume or with the slightest hint of common sense knew he wasn’t going to. Our personnel were wedded to his system which had every chance of being useless by the season’s end unless we brought in a manager who played a similar system. He, himself, insisted on getting Porro as the key to his system. Personally, I was overjoyed that Levy wouldn’t pay the release clause and expressed those reservations in the dedicated thread. There were probably three other dissenters and I can name two of them, I think. The rest of the posters clamored for ‘the bald cunt to just pay the release clause’. The rest of the transfer was, as you suggest, farcical but not for the reasons you give. Levy, Parataci and his team should have stood their ground instead of half-heartedly backing a manager they didn’t trust (rightly) to stick around and massively overpaying at the end of the window as a means to appease him.
No glory for Levy, on a fool’s errand , I agree but equally for the ‘Back Wiggy’ fanboys on social media and here that pressed for the transfer.

I maintain that Richarlison was a good transfer and a good bit of squad building (someone who can play with and without Kane, a proven PL goalscorer, a great physical presence) especially as Conte seemed to absolutely love him, the issue is just that he hasn’t played well.

He's played worse than when he was at Everton.

A fragile whiner, with little end product, cannot hold the ball up and picks up injuries like an East End hooker picks up blow jobs.

Another sixty million down the shitter.

Something interesting about Johnson - we’ve been wondering why data-led clubs like Brentford Chelsea and us have landed on him as a target despite his disappointing fbref stats

Well, 3 statistics where he leads the PL below:

Seems to me that, if the article about Ange and Gabbiani working together is true, maybe one of the request was a direct winger who can run with the ball at speed, who is a big threat in behind the defense, and can chip in with goals and assists from out wide. And crucially he’s someone who makes a lot of off ball runs to open up space and stretch the defense.

The Johnson profile actually does seem like a good fit for the team on paper. It’s just that the further you get away from the pitch the better he looks, and that always worries me in a player.
But that is all good fir a counter attacking team. If we are camped in the oppo half you need quality players who can beat a man by a drop of the shoulder or a shimmy like mahrez. His not gonna have 20M plus space to run into. That’s why I don’t get the interest in him. His not even a player that generally stood out last season.
