Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This isn't a direct shot at Pathfinder Pathfinder , but I'm quite certain that most who proclaim to be so sure of all of these exciting talents across Europe don't actually watch as much football as you'd think...

The majority of the hype comes from youtube videos, Fifa Ultimate Team, and Champ Manager I reckon. I remember when I was young, and I'd watch Football Italia, and Eurogoals on Eurosport, you'd see an exciting sounding name score a goal one time and just assume they were fucking amazing...

A lot of the big talk in the transfer thread seems reminiscent of the way I used to talk about Spurs and how we should sign this guy and that guy that I'd seen a couple of clips of, and how they would transform us and solve all our problems and we'd defo win the league.
I have already said a few times that I don't watch nearly as much football as I used to. No time. I have also stated that I don't base my judgement on Youtube videos as most of us know that one cannot base much on highlight videos (although I do watch for fun at times) but I read scouting reports (from people who watch loads of footy) and go to fan forums.
And I no longer assume any player to be awesome based on a few amazing skill clips. Most so called "wonder kids" never become "wonder adults".
But personally Ito read posts about "new" young talents (in the "players to watch" thread) just for fun. But I do NOT take it as serious as many here do or think I do.
Even scouts, coaches, head-coaches/managers, who spend their whole life watching, studying and analyzing players, are often wrong....so, it's only in a few rare cases one can be more or less sure...

Attack is not a priority?

That's scary.
It is, but it’s also probably prudent because you aren’t finding a starting quality striker available in January (unless we’re talking a very risky punt on Toney). CM and CB depth can be easier to finagle your way into, especially as it’s much more common for those players to not fit into a certain system and be underutilized.

A goalscorer worth half a damn isn’t ever sold for an affordable fee in January unless it’s a special case.

Yes to Todibo.

Could even be better than Romero. Same kind of football stuff. Quickish, strong, technically comfortable. Less of a twat.
Would love to snap him up. Young, great physical profile, can be aggressive and also sit back to cover - v similar to Romero as you say.

Nice hold all the cards though as they're flying atm, unbeaten, and he's on till 2027. I expect they'll want 50m Euros for him, esp with United and the Scum sniffing around.

Unfortunately , stated that he was aggressive. That would be no good for us as he would be carded constantly. You have got to realise that the Referees will only accept passive Spurs defending from now on and then we're still likely to pick up cards.
Maybe Dier is the answer as he never actually makes contact with anyone because hes always backing off.

Attack is not a priority?

That's scary.

They'll wait and see how Richy is for the rest of the season after his operation and defer it to the summer. Whilst it isn't what we want I can't see us buying a top draw striker in January or any club wanting to lose their most important players whatever the money.

I actually think centre back is more attainable followed by swapping Hojbjerg for another more suited midfielder.

The injury to Bentancur will have sped this up.

We cannot be haggling till 31st of Jan like we sometimes do. 2-3 players need to be in in the first week of the window no ifs, no buts, no excuses from the club.

CB, CM and probably Jota on loan.

Agree, but we've seen many times in January that more options open up towards the end of the window as teams get desperate. So lots of the deals happen then. I can't see us changing our M.O. on this unfortunately as we have always operated this way. Levy isn't going to change.
