Who does Gallagher replace in our best 11 ?

More the question should be where does Pirere and Skipp?

Adding Gallagher would give us options, and a true depth to the midfield. Looking at what has happened (and who is to say it won't again) to Bentancur, and Bissouma this past month I'd sleep better at night knowing Gallagher was available than Pierre or Skipp.

Ange is looking at quality in our depth of squad and not make fit players who will wilt in European football next season.

While I agree with the sense of urgency, there's a reason why we don't do business this way. On any single deal in a vacuum, £10M extra doesn't mean much. But do it 3-4 times and that's a whole other player we cannot buy now because we've spunked the money.

There's a line between Levy and Boehly that's ideal, for sure.

In the case of our ongoing centreback crisis, though, I agree we just need to spend the money and get someone in the door immediately.
We’ve gleaned value out of our last 8 or so signings so we can absolutely pay an extra 10M to get a deal done quickly. That’s the balance. We don’t have to strive to seek the same level of value perpetually.

We signed a 60M keeper for 18M ffs, invest the balance in a centre back tomorrow

Anyone who waffles on about best 11’s should be banned from having an opinion on football.

You might have your best 11 available for < 5 games per season at best so it’s a decision that rarely if ever needs to be made. Gallagher is better than Skipp and Hoj, and comes straight into our 11 for Man Utd. He will get plenty of game time and offers something different to the four excellent CM’s we already have. Five into three is fine, they will all play. Loads

Bentancur/Bissouma
Sarr/Gallagher
Maddison/Kulusevski

That's a really nice group of midfielders with versatility to play in different combinations. You could even keep Skipp due to his club trained status as a pure emergency backup player (or promote a different youngster to that role).

Currently we have Bentancur, Bissouma, Skipp, Sarr, Maddison plus Lo Celso and Hojbjerg (7 players for 3 places) plus Kulusevski who has dropped back to cover Maddison's injury

No way are we upgrading at CM by getting another CM in without selling one of both of Lo Celso and/or Hojbjerg,

Is odd when I see arguments against Gallagher or Todibo along the lines of ‘they wouldn’t get in our first 11’.

When was the last time we played a ‘first 11’ due to injury/suspension/national tournaments. If we buy Todibo and Gallagher they will play plenty of games.

If we ever get to a situation where by everyone is fit and ready and Gallagher and Todibo displace Sarr and VDV then that is called competition and will drive player improvement and thus better results anyway.
Just said the same less eloquently

BTW Todibo picked up a red card and missed Nice last game and with their winter break is now banned until 14 Jan. Hopefully his card doesn't carry over from France to England ?

So if Nice happy to sell, no real need for a delay if they have his replacement reasonably lined up.

But I'm still a little concerned INEOS may wish to hold things up until they have completed their transaction at ManU in order to push him there. But that might be over thinking the situation.

Can't wait to see your reaction when Gallagher does his first interview and says COYS whilst winking at the camera

Trust Levy on this one. No way he pays over the odds to Chavs. This is a man who sold Modric to Madrid for less money cause he didn’t want Modric going to Blue Scum. Thinks he hates them as much as I do - one of his few redeeming qualities. 🤣

Dont think Boehley lowers his asking price of 50M and no way Levy pays Boehley’s asking price - so really doubt there’s a deal.

If Gallagher comes- I’ll hold my nose and support the Blue Scum Judas - partly because it’ll be fun to see Chav supporters head explode - which again only happens if we don’t pay over the odds. Otherwise they can laugh at us for lining Boehley’s pockets. In Levy I trust - just this once 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It’s about price and Blue Scum for me with Gallagher - 50M?!? So NOT OK getting our pants pulled down by Boehley/Blue Scum - I think Gallagher is shite (fully admitting my bias against Blue Scum academy products).

I’m fine to “overpay” for Todibo - particularly given our dire need at the back - or a different MFer depth option with actual talent.
Completely agree.

Considering how having zero depth in the CB role has cost us.

Paying extra for a quality replacement in a critical area is well worth splashing the cash.

Ange is certainly talking like we could have deals done already.

I'd be amazed if a CB isn't already packing his bags and saying his goodbye's (and i don't mean Lurch).

I think Ange has made that perfectly clear, and if not why are we wasting money on managerial appointments who's job it is to sign players.

Three in i feel, but fucking around until January end for a CB is not an option

Whether Pierre or LoCelso go in January or the Summer shouldn't be a concern.

We have been carrying Lurch and N'Dombele way past their sell by date.

Carrying extra salary for the next five months is nothing compared to the money we would lose by not being in Europe.

The last thing we need to do is miss out on CL footie because we fucked about on spending on much needed squad depth now, when we will need t do that in the Summer.

We need them gone as we have too many on loan already mostly subsidising their wages so we don't want to add to the problem.

We also need to free up squad places - and even get a few fees in from sales to finance others coming in.

All basic management stuff

Why wouldn't they be trying to get the deal done now?

I really wish we supported the type of club that signs a player like Todibo to go with Romero and VDV but this nagging doubt in my mind keeps saying why wouldn't they be further along if this was the one they planned to sign?

The quiet makes it seem more like we want to use the threat of Todibo links to get a lower price on Dragusin or to pressure Tosin into accepting a move to Spurs.

I think the hold up, if there is one, will be at Nice end - I'm still nervous about the ManU ramifications as I said.

If Spurs get a whiff of delays, I'd imagine they would push on with one or more of the other CB's probably on our list.
