Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Tottenham are heavily interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Spurs are looking to add depth to their squad in January and Ange Postecoglou has reportedly highlighted three areas of his squad that he wants to strengthen ahead of the January window.

Signing a new centre-back is a top priority for the club, but the north London giants could also look to bolster their forward department as well, especially in wide areas.

Bakayoko is a highly talented young winger who progressed through the youth ranks at the club. He has already made eight appearances for the Belgian national team. Alan Hutton, the former Spurs player, described him as “amazing” earlier this month (10 December, 2023).

The 20-year-old has a contract at the Dutch club until 2026 and he is also appreciated by Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Other targets
The youngster has been in terrific form this season, managing three goals and eight assists in 16 Eredivisie matches so far.

He has also scored one goal and registered an assist in the Champions League as well. Needless to say, he is a top talent, and Spurs are keen to land him.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Tottenham are most likely to target Jota in January. The former Celtic winger, who shone under Postecoglou at Celtic, wants to leave Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad in January.

Spurs will look to sign Jota either on loan or on a free transfer which is more profitable to them. Bakayoko has a contract at PSV until 2026, and the Dutch giants are expected to demand a lot of money for their highly-rated winger.

Munn and Co will be deciding targets and discussing with Ange who we want. They might even do the groundwork on the contracts for transfers.

The board decides what budgets they have for transfer fees and wage structures. The difference with Paratici is that he also sat on the board so had more influence than any football executive at Spurs for a long time.

Spurs is a very consistent beast when it comes to transfers. You don’t get that consistency by giving employees too much power. You get it by the board setting the culture and keeping enough power to maintain it.

Ok, didn't really address what I said but thank you nonetheless.

Why are we interested in Jota? That Saudi team is full of Brazilian journeymen and he can't get in it. Just a cheap option for Levy and ENIC, like Solomon, signing squad players.

PSV will most probably be expecting close to "Antony money" (£82m) for him.

Addressed the question though because fans want to blame Levy for transfers and to some extent, they will always be able for as long s as he’s the Chairman.

Just so we are clear, if we are playing this blame game then we should blame him when we get the right players and profile fits as well.

So if our last couple of years are recruitment drive has been pretty much a success under his guidance then why are fans still bemoaning the club and talking down our strategy and signings?

In fact over the same period if Spurs have been a consistent beast then surely we'd still have this scattergun strategy and not identifying the right players?

I can live with the idea of Gallagher for £35m tbh. Not jumping up and down, but that's a reasonable fee for a resonably useful player.

Essentially an upgraded Hojbjerg + HG status.

So what's he doing then, what's his role?

Good question - ' takes charge of all football departments at Spurs' Club appoints Chief Football Officer | Tottenham Hotspur

So I'm quite sure he will manage Lange/Paraciti/whoever is involved in football transfers but its probably not so much involved in detail as ensuring total cost of transfers is 'within a budget' etc alongside managing everything else whether academy, womens team and even what changes at Spurs would need to be to change us to a multi club organisation, what changes we might want PL to lobby for in FIFA etc. So a wide ranging 'strategic but hands on' role.

Sure

We had our best window in years under his budget/wage structure this summer. He brought in Paratici too which was inspired

Was also his wage structure that meant we couldn’t bring another CB this summer, which almost certainly cost us points.
