Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Same with City when their oil money first arrived. At first you have to overspend and overpay average to above average players and show that you're willing to splash out money and keep splashing.

Newcastle are going to find doping hard, I think. There's too many clubs doing it now, they'll never be preferred over City, Chelsea, or PSG. Probably set to have the most expensive squad in the Europa most seasons.

Hackney at CM looks a good buy but maybe more one for the future than straight off the bat - if we're looking to do bits this season/next then we really want to be adding a CM that can slot straight in

We’ve quite a young and inexperienced team. I’ve called us naive in games a few times. I wouldn’t mind an older head who’s done it all coming in (no not Henderson) just to add a bit of guidance. It could have been Perisic if he hadn’t had his injury.

In all honesty as a back up would Henderson be that bad? Would bring experience and has captained a team that's won it all - didn't follow him/Liverpool all that much but did his form fall off a cliff before jetting off to Saudi?

He won’t accept being back up. He’s a loudmouth and his physicality is on the wane and he’s never been overly skilful

Strange how now everyone is give Dan the big up. I thought the new setup meant Munn, Lange and Co get these deals done? Levy would only come into for the money approval. If Munn and Lange recommend player x is what we need and think said player is worth £XM then levy takes that advice and writes the cheque. Orherwise what is the point having all these extra people running the football side. That is their job.
Munn and Lange have a budget they need to work within. If the player valuation and/or salary demands fluctuate, that has a ripple effect on the budget and will affect other transfers. So someone has to either give the thumbs up, or work out payment structures to minimize the impact on the current budget. Which is where Dan comes in. It seems to me that he is now more in the role of facilitator than negotiator, as was evidenced in the Porro transfer.

Not strange when you consider how long/much people have whinged about him being involved too much and messing up transfers.

Stepping aside and empowering others to handle transfer business is still an concious action, and an action that directly addresses his previous failings.

The problem is some (many) just want to give Levy blame but leave him completely out of any credit for anything that goes well. That's poor form.
Well said. The agenda rarely changes but the arguments behind it often do.
