You can't compare, though. NFL teams don't play in international competitions outside the US, where the rules may be different. If the PL institutes a salary cap, teams will be complaining that it will make them uncompetitive in Europe. There has to be a European salary cap, in order for this to work, but don't see that happening.
The rules will be changing in the summer. UEFA are looking to a percentage of wages to turnover of around 70% eventually. Prem Lge are reportedly looking at 85% which seems ridiculous.
We had a turnover of 440m in 21/22. We paid 47% wages. Under those rules we could pay around 370m.
No chance of that.
Clubs in Europe will have to go with UEFA rules . We will currently be well below 70%. Some teams won’t.

It might be a bit premature to say that

But Phillips has played a dozen or so games at Blackburn in Championship and well regarded at E u19 level so a decent track record,

What's been good is the fan and local reporter reaction generally saying Phillips has looked very good at that level, looked far more comfortable than many more established players etc.

So lots of good very signs.
Always looked like he was cruising through under 21 games. Very different for Plymouth, looked well up for it.

Come on people. A few of you are dancing around the fringes of a cunt off. One last push can see a spectacular end to the window!

I want to see yellows, sin binnings...some excitement for goodness sake!!

It certainly helps picking the right club.

We used to do it really well under Redknapp. Whether it be Leyton Orient or even Yeovil where plenty of our lads got good game time.

Devine and Phillips both going to Plymouth and getting game time instantly bodes well.

I believe when Paratici came in, he restructured the youth wage model. He's been massive for us really.

I was against Paratici at first as his manager picks (Gattuso, Nuno, links with Luis Enrique) where so odd and against the club but his management of recruitment and youth seems to have been vastly superior to anything we have seen at this club. I actually trust us to buy players and develop players, never in all my years as a fan felt that way.

I can't deny he has revolutionised the football operation.

Yeah. As long as we keep him away from any future managerial decisions, the criminal can most definitely stay!

I loved when he got convicted and could only stay as a 'consultant', it meant he could work on all the deals for players but not impose himself on the football style. A massive win win for the club.

Not a fan of the people on the show, but Last Word on Spurs had the LilyWhite Rose guy on.

He basically said the feeling around the academy is the best it's been in over a decade. The plan is very much to get players out on loan and that Spurs are willing to pay the player's wages in order to guarantee game time.

I get the point I just don't see that really as sitting with Poch or afterwards Jose. Modern football has moved away from the Fergie runs everything, we have an academy and head of academy to build and recruit these players and clearly its been nowhere near good enough. If Poch or Jose got given Chelsea's academy I am sure we would have 4-5 starters from that place, I appreciate Chelsea spent more money on it but the time and effort to fix certain players of lesser talent probably wasn't there.

A couple of snippets out of Ange interviews show he's aware of youth - for example knew a lot about Chris Davis Academy Head linked to move to Swansea a couple of months back, and indeed a few youth players.

Whilst Ange does not have the remit of a Fergie I'd be astounded if he didn't sit down with Davis and maybe other academy coaches and recruitment guys maybe once every few weeks to understand who is looking interesting at youth level (mainly at u21's ?), reports on players out at loan etc and before pre-season decide with the same guys which youth to involve in pre-season. And with our injuries know our options for youth on bench.

Mourhino is not usually associated with youth development, but he surprised me when at Spurs by being familiar with the likes of Cirkin coming through, Scarlett and Devine, White et al. And he clearly decided Skipp needed a loan to be useful to Spurs so Skipp went to Norwich and a couple of others aklso went out on loan.

So at the end of the day its about managers setting their own priorities in terms of youth development and working with the players at his disposal. But the results from that after 6 years at Spurs was incredibly disappointing .and suggests there was not much successful focus on youth development.

It wasn't 'under Redknapp' as such, he just happened to be manager at the time, the academy was run really well by Alex Inglethorpe who was here from 2006-2012, he eventually moved to Liverpool which was a big loss.

Ally Gold or POK (can't remember which one, think it was Ally) said Paratici was shocked at how bad the academy was when he first came in and vowed to fix it transforming it from top to bottom.

Almost certainly true and the enthusiasm of youth players is like chalk and cheese versus almost anything in last decade - the highest point previously was a brief flicker under Mourhino who played a few youngsters but that was snuffed out in its tracks by Conte
