Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Firstly apologies for another post.

The thing is, I left that game yesterday so depressed after watching it, I felt similar during the Brighton game. Sure, I’ve got some other stuff going on in my life that’s contributing to that and spurs are the last thing a person needs to cheer them up, but yesterday just felt like some of the bad days under Poch and Conte. I’m fearful it’s drifting that way because we have seen it all before at the club. A good start under a new manager before all the players lull back into their safety blanket of a nice training ground and comfy pillows. Ange has got his work cut out yet again. It’s why I say the job is so hard at Spurs. As a manager you’re battling so much to succeed.
This.

We've seen it all before.

Not going to disagree with that but it's for Postecoglou to put right.

Sorry to hear about the other stuff but don't hang on to unrealistic expectation neither.

All teams go through difficult periods. This season demonstrates that for all clubs. Why should we be any different?

What we need to try and dismiss, is the past.

I am confident but with caution. Any remedy needs a dominant and depenfable central midfielder who raises the bar.

We are the epitome of a ckub where players rarely if ever hit 8/10, and stay there, and right now our early sesson star (Maddison) is not quite shining.

Nobody but nobody need worry too much for now but neither should anyone be looking to the stars quite yet.

I'm not Ange out at all. I was annoyed yesterday but not because of a one-off game, these signs have been in plain sight for weeks and arguably the whole season.

Yes, objectively it's the building phase, he's only had two windows and we are ahead of where almost all of us thought we would be. And yes, we've been hit with injuries. So have City. So have Liverpool. So have Woolwich. So have Villa. And they are all above us. Villa more irksome because their manager has only had one window and six months more than ours. The others have had untold riches and time.

However. Tactically we have both been found out AND seemingly don't know what to do. Teams just camp on their 18 yard line and we can't get through. Deki (goals notwithstanding) does little else and constantly checks back. He's slow and if he's not killing any momentum on the right is just coming centrally. Madders looks way off his early season self; like he's not actually fit. Biss is just a shadow, this is Conte Biss not Ange Biss.

And expecting Micky to clean up every punt over the top when he's facing four or five a game now is ludicrous. The worse thing is for the second Wolves goal they actually all busted their arses to get back but nobody thought to mark the goal scorer.

Things a young team but it's the same mistakes constantly. There are going to be bumps on the road and mistakes will be made, and I can deal with that. But making the same mistakes over and over and over? It's unforgivable and incredibly naive.

I don't care what the form table says, and I don't care how many wins and points we have currently. My eyes are the gauge. And if you were all honest, if results were all that mattered, you wouldn't all have kicked off when we were doing well with shit football under Jose and Conte. Disjointed by injuries perhaps and again we have a lack of depth which will only be addressed through time, but we are playing fucking shit. If you don't have the players for your system, you have to be pragmatic. And in this league you can't afford to be this naive. I want Ange to succeed, I want success for this club and for the first ten game we played some incredible stuff. We aren't even close to that right now, even with almost everyone available. What has gone wrong?

Great post 👏

Said what I feel - in a much more measured way, as I have woken up in a foul mood thinking back on yesterdays game.

Football teams lose matches, we all understand this. But the way we are playing and have been for a long time (in football terms) is a huge concern…pretty certain ‘vibes’ won’t be the panacea to these ills. Hard work, application and flexibility will.

Thanks (and to others who have said the same) I shouldn’t really have brought it up but your paragraph hits home. I was expecting too much on top of other things. You’d thought I’d have learnt by now not to do that with Spurs! 😂 They should never be used as anything but a distraction. One for us all to remember I suspect.

Yeah spurs are not the ones to pick you up when you've got personal stuff going on. I remember I had to put my dog to sleep. Came home to then watch us get hammered 5-1 at home to city 😂😂😂

If I was a professional football player, I would be the worst person to be around the week following a loss, I guarantee any midweek uploads on the Tottenham media pages will have the players joking about but I have full confidence in Ange sorting this out. Then again I had full confidence in Conte sorting it out aswell

Just following on from a thought I had earlier about tweaking the team - and I know this won't happen - but maybe having the central midfield be Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison could allow Sarr to be switched out wide right. He can beat his man, dribble, finish, works his arse off. He'd probably be way better in that position than either Johnson or Kulusevski, whilst the pairing of Bentancur and Bissouma is still pretty strong.

You must be fucking joking?! We have been in a permanent state of rebuilding since Sugar got rid of Terry V. Since which time we have won two league cups!

Depends how one opts to define a "rebuild" and whether one is able to differentiate between team and club.

Post-Venables was a decade of decay and neglect of the club and if anything the 91 FACup win was in spite of the curve that the club had already been undergoing off the pitch under Scholar.

Since then; the club has by and large been rebuilt (past tense).

......Rebuilding the team however is a semi-regular cycle and process within that broader picture.

Now fans may declare they are "out of patience" in terms of winning things; but that doesn't mean the process of our current rebuild of the team can be achieved within 6 months of a new manager turning up with a bit of a spring in his step..... No matter how impatient they choose to be.

It’s fair to say we are all disappointed about yesterday but we can’t win and play well every game. Outwith the top 3 who do dominate games and play well most weeks and even then they have periods when they are not good.
If you even look at yesterday there’s still bits of play when it’s very good as was Brighton and Brentford games. We have periods in games where we are too untidy with our passing, touch in the final third, lack of pace and won’t shoot.
What we do need to realise is we are only 7 months in from the start of the season and this is in its infancy. If it was like this and the performances are like this at the start of next season then there will be more questions asked.
The one thing I would hope to see is a bigger tweak to try and change a game rather than just a change of personnel. That’s all fair and well when you are winning and dominating but teams know exactly how we are going to play every game from minute 1 till the final whistle. We have become a wee bit too predictable. Even just a change of getting full backs overlapping or play 2 at centre forward, just something to make the opposition think.
We play palace next and their lead up to that match will be easy as they know how we play.
I love Ange and I’m enjoying this season but we need to be more flexible and not rigid to this system. I understand when he says “play our football” but we can play our football within different systems and formations. Football is football and itdoesn’t change.
If you play at an intensity and with purpose the opposition will find it hard to cope but in recent weeks it’s only been there in parts.
Let’s not get carried away and say we’ve fucked it for 4th because that’s stupidity. The top 3 are well in front of us but in a 3 way fight to get 4th against Villa and Utd I know we wil get there.
The next issue after that is finding players to replace Richy,Werner,Johnson and probably Deki because if we don’t get better than those then we will only be a challenger for 4th and below. I doubt we’ll replace them but let’s get behind the team between now and the end of the season and see where it takes us.

Spurs fans don’t have the heart for a rebuild. Nobody, including Ange said that this would be plain sailing.

It’s because we have never really had one before at least not a professionally done one. The ‘rebuild’ during the Poch era was laughable. Normally the club just sacks the manager as the ‘rebuild’.

Now we have a deeper structure with Munn, Lange, Paratici. We are buying lots of players for the future like Bergvall. It’s something new, it seems like for the first time we are looking long term (and I don’t mean long term business wise, we have always done that!) and for the fans and the baord/Levy it’s a completely new thing.

Long as improvement happens season on season I think we will stay the course.

Becoming a side that can play their way through a packed defence with everyone camped in tight lines in a really deep position is something that takes good teams a while to learn. Liverpool had a lot of trouble with it some years ago and it was an Achilles heel before they figured it out.

But we’ve spent £50m on johnson for the right wing, so we aren’t going to buy another one for that side. We have son on the left. I agree we need it but I can see the club not doing it. I’m perplexed by our attacking purchases. Even Werner on loan doesnt satisfy the criteria. Turning his loan into a purchase doesn’t help things either, it just compounds the problem.

Reports are saying that we are looking at Neto, we definately want to upgrade it.

I think Johnson will be fine, he's obviously a future investment, not sure what that means for Kulu though...

there is that 0ld chestnut,, we will outscore the opposition 3-2 4-3 5-4..
for me - any good side will have a solid defence structure/personnel.

A good defence structure consists of players who don't give the ball away needlessly as well and are able to attack consistently, it's not just about the way you setup going forward, keeping the ball from the opps is also a way to defend against them

Ok so I'm going to simply flip the coin was yesterday not merely Pedrro Porro and Destiny Udogie. I mean a system designed to facilitate creativity from its inverted fullbacks......needs inverted fullbacks. Emerson and Davis can cover centerback and they do so well enough to be assets but without the real Maddison you can't beat a decent side with them playing inverted. We need two top young natural understudies for Udogie and Porro.

I think the ability to switch this up mid-game would go a long way.........

Especially on Porro's side who has wicked delivery.

If oppo are forcing us out wide and our WFwds aren't trad. wingery types, then that space has to be exploited somehow + it frees up the WFwds to give the ST some support in pulling the oppo CBs out of shape (in games like yesterday when it was essentially Richy vs 3 CBs he's fighting a losing battle).
