We're likely to lose at least 2 MFs this summer (PEH, GLC)... If not more (Skipp?)......

To go into a season inc. Europa Lg with just Biss, Benta and Bergvall (with a question mark over his head) for 2 positions and Maddison alone for the other another and think we'll get through unscathed is madness.

It's almost a guarantee we'll get at least one new midfielder in.

New Midfielder
Bissouma
Bentancur
Bergvall
Maddison
Sarr
Donley
*Kulusevski

Seems like more than enough cover. (With Skipp also capable of playing there if he does stay).

Watched a bit of Palace this evening (granted, only highlights) and it looks to me that Eze and Olise don’t play that wide. Both seem to be number 10’s. Am I missing the times where they are out wide and if not, wouldn’t signing either narrow our play too much?

Duh... I left Sarr off the list.

We have Divine M.I.A. too

Guess we'll see; but we'll def. need at least 6 players considered team-ready.... Does that include Skipp, Bergvall, Donley & Divine? .....We'll see.

Yup.... Just cos they're good, desirable players under our noses; it doesn't mean to say they're what the manager thinks he needs.

What he actually wants out of his wide-men is still a bit of a head-scratcher tbh....... Just cos something worked for him at Celtic doesn't automatically mean it's gonna translate here or to the current EPL rendition off Ange-ball...... Can do without anymore expensive errors in the trf market right now... Too much to do.

Admittedly, I’m not against the idea with playing a bit more narrow up front. But it does go against the inverted full back thing. I’d be fine with two tens and a centre forward, with the fullbacks covering the wings. Back to the Venables Christmas Tree.

My dream candidates for the striker position are Sesko, Boniface, Gyokeres and Vlahovic. Zirkzee too although he seems a bit poor aerially.

Openda is class but on the smaller side and we've struggled with physicality up front. Same with Vitor Roque except he's unproven as well. Would make no sense to go for them.

Gimenez looks uninspiring and Toney has been mediocre at best since his return, both are gambles on whether they are as good as Richy, let alone an upgrade.

That said, people are really underestimating how good Richy has been since his surgery. Even the candidates listed above may not be a clear upgrade on him. It's only his injury record that lets him down.

Anybody actually watched the mexican striker we are linked with?

I've only seen highlights and he doesn't seem special

Watched him a bit earlier in the season as we were linked in the summer. He scored 13 goals and got 3 assists in the opening 9 games. Watched him a fair bit last season as I like Arne Slot.

But looks like he now has 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 13 starts in the league. And that's for a pretty good Fwyenoord team who score goals for fun.

Managed 31 g/a in 3027 minutes last season. So involved every 97 minutes.

He has 34 g/a in 3204 minutes this season. So involved every 94 minutes.

Weird one. Hes a good footballer, his numbers are good. But Eredivisie is so fucking hard to gauge. His numbers in European competitions are pretty okay. 2 goals and 1 assist in 4 CL games and 1 goal in 2 Europa League games this season. 5 goals in 4 Europa League starts last season.

He is 23 but he just strikes me as a "project" striker, Veliz is just 2 years younger. He'd come in and have to prove he's worth it. When I think this team, certainly at striker, needs someone who can come in and you just know will score goals.

He'd certainly be the most underwhelming of the strikers linked. Is he better than Richarlison? Not too sure tbh. Might be a better all round footballer but at least Richy knows this league

Inverted full backs does not play to the strengths of Porro and Udogie.

Definitely plays to the strengths of Udogie.

The guy didn't complete a single cross until February this year. 6 months after the season started....

I wouldn't be against lop sided full backs though. Udogie inverts whilst Porro holds width.

However it's obvious we're going to sign a winger in the summer, so it's likely they'll be the ones holding width instead on the right.

Inverted full backs is one of our least worries. Fix the offence.

I’d say it does to Udogie, but not Porro.

Agree with everything in your post, bar this. Everything is connected here. Yes, our fullbacks (first choice) are excellent, but when attacking, shouldn’t they end up in the space that Eze and Olise like to be in? Not ideal obviously. So fixing the attacking side of the team has to take this kind of thing into account.

I think really they should just be sitting alongside the 6.

So we're like this:

Romero........ Van de Ven
Porro.......... Number 6.........Udogie
Sarr................ Maddison
Right winger....................Striker.................. Left winger

Giving that solidarity in the middle. Whilst Maddison and Sarr cause some problems and press high. If Porro moves forward, Sarr drops. If Udogie goes forward, Maddison does.

Romero moves out wide on opposition counters and the same with van de Ven on the left with the 6 dropping in.

Proper wingers keep the width to stretch play and open the space for the middle.
