Are we now at the stage of the window that we're just falling for the same old bullshit as every year?

"Spurs willing to spend BIG"
"Spurs willing to buy this player AND that player"

We'll spend big.
As long as the wages are modest.
As long as the fee can be structured over the right period.
As long as there is something we can "win" at during the talks.

We'll buy more than 1 top player.
As long as at least 1 "top" player at the club leaves.
As long as anyone else leaves that doesn't get a kick anyway, but we can't have someone not in the squad.
As long as no one else can promise player 1 or player 2 more footbal.

Same shit, same caveats, every window.
And the fans all get themselves excited in July. By August everyone is angry. By September the ENICbots are trying to tell everyone else why it was an 8/10 window.
I can't get too excited by the transfer window until the Euros and Copa America are over. Whether we like it or not it effects our business.

Richy and Son as our forward options next season and we're doing absolutely nothing. Bookmark this.
Define absolutely nothing? If we get as lucky with injuries as the filth did last season I would expect us to get 4th in spite of those two up top. That’s the objective of the investment vehicle and would be success (low investment and high revenue return).

Your point is valid though, they are bang average and it will be a disgrace if we don’t sign a 9

No top 4, no trophies.

You can't be an elite possession team if your strikers can't hold up the ball.

the striker doesnt see as much of the ball as the wide forwards do in this system ( at least thats how it feels, would be interesting to see the stats).

richarlison is decent when hes got decent crosses to work with. weve hardly put any decent crosses in for him to do something with. at least he gives you a box presence, son offers nothing as a striker against sides that are sitting it.

give him a decent cross and hes an asset. no other forward we have at the club is a threat like that when it comes to crosses (hopefully veliz will be). the goals he scores that arent from crosses almost look a little awkward and lucky...give him a decent delivery and hell get something on it 9/10.

if perisic didnt get injured and played on the left with rich up top we would of scored a decent amount of goals from that link up. hes the only one who could get his head up and put it in a dangerous area with quality and consistency.

Some names that have come up as potential transfers:

Soule would be a good signing, good Kulu back up but Whitaker would be better given the homegrown rule. Neto or Johan Bakayoko then. Need at least 2 players for every position. 3 for some considering Ange's style of play.

Ange will need to work on the defensive side of coaching as well. Bringing in a former hibs coach doesnt scream inspiring, but have to trust Ange. This is a massive transfer window for us. Gotta get rid of the rest of the deadwood ( Lo Celso/Reguilon/Royal and Gil) and make some really good signings. Striker and left defence squad depth are the priority. Of course, only IMO as well.

Not to mention our midfield was absolute wank after Maddison got inured and Bissouma lost all his earlier season form.

We were stuck putting out PEH, Sarr, and a poor Biss most weeks. No wonder we couldn’t keep possession

bissouma wasnt the same after his red for being an idiot and maddison couldnt find his form again. it all went south after the chelsea game.

we all see things slightly differently which is the beauty of football. but i thought our wide players last year were absolutely dog shit and hurt us big time. serious lack of quality, couldnt keep the ball and play off the cuff or put decent balls in the box enough to cause some sort of danger.

Partly why this "system" delivered a 5th place finish last season.

No other elite possession manager in the modern game allows their striker to be a passenger who doesn't get involved in the build up. You can get away with it for the odd game against minnows but against big teams you need them contributing to ball retention and link up.

Arteta favours Havertz over a goal scoring #9 - they finished 30 points ahead of us last season. Jesus the season before - another 30 point gap.

Liverpool were twice the team with Firmino over Nunez up top despite scoring half the goals.

United are getting Zirkzee this summer because they're realising the value of ball retention and build up over an undeveloped kid who has a good shot but struggles to hold it up (Hojlund).

Even Pep has worked hard to get Haaland more involved with his back to goal and in the big games where he has struggled to do so the team has suffered. He's still not perfect in this regard but far better than our strikers. (He also makes up for it by bagging 50 goals a season, but he's a freak and an anomaly.)

Haaland had less touches per min than Ederson and Ortega last season... FYI they play keeper

we need better than richarlison yes, but whos out there thats realistic? toney maybe but thats it unless theres gems abroad?

point is, if youre going to play richarlison at least use him properly. hes not berbatov or kane, hes a box threat who is a nightmare for defenders if youre actually giving him crosses to fight for. we dont put the ball in the box! we work it out wide and try and play cute stuff into the box and get close to the 6 yard box. we dont have the technicians to do that! the whole front 3 have to be silky and the midfield have to also be cute on the ball for this to happen.

everyone trying to copy pep without the tools. we dont have any front 3 good enough to play like this, kulu looked very good first 4 months but has been a frustrating player since. our back 4 is good, midfield now has lots of options so its down to the manager to get the balance right for the particular game. the front 3 with the current lot are not going to be silky enough to play this possession game, its going to take far more than just replacing richarlison.

we were struggling to break down teams that sat in when we had conte! wide players have to be competent to play against these sides, never doing it with son and johnson as the wide players, they arent natural footballers.

Levy wont pay the money for Toney and I think he is right. The ego is too much. Lange's analysis are going to have to come into it here, especially looking for a striker abroad. Either pay the money for Oshimen or look for someone like Jonathan David with either richy as the back up or buy another striker.
