Because of a penalty and funny video during the Euros?

Nothing has changed with Toney. He's still got strengths that suit direct, counter-attacking football and he's still never been a prolific goal scorer outside of penalties and FKs. He's a good premier league player in the right team but we just sold Harry Kane, we need to be expecting this club to go and get their top striker targets not waiting for the price to drop on Toney and signing him because it's cheaper.
I’ve got no clue why to be honest. I’ve just accepted that I wouldn’t lose my shit if we end up signing him.

The market seems almost as dead as January

Same factors - a lot of clubs are too close to the line on FFP.

Effect of FFP is to reduce transfer fee values but those wanting to sell players are desperate not to reduce prices (hence Sporting will try to hold the line on 84m on Gyokeres - even though he was bought for 20m plus 4m add ons a year ago). So its going to take a year or two for those changes to feed through into every club's minds.

Best place to be is a club with a lot of good u21's needing first team minutes .......

Pay a fortune for a guy 2 years older than Richi who isn’t even better. No thanks.

The only way I can see him ending up here is if we get a cut rate deal. Can’t see us paying over the odds for him to be honest.

£35-£40m for a player who isn't going to have a mental health issue disrupting his season isn't bad money.
Not to mention he would fill a HG squad space.

Seems like a win win for me.

That's exactly my point about Levynomics.

We all know Toney isn't likely to be #1 on the list of forwards for Ange or Lange but people are telling themselves it will be OK if we sign him as the more affordable option later in the window.

But I'm also saying that Gray for that kind fo money at 18 from the Championship shows a different level of conviction and trust in the recruitment team. Maybe we can expect the club to be more ambitious and get a player further up the list...
