How Dry should our Powder be?

People using Liverpool as an excuse, i mean firstly why should we care? I'm sure their fans aren't that happy either but thats sod all to do with our situation

But if we're going there they finished 16 pts above us last season with a +45 g/d to our +13. They clearly have a lot less issues than we do and won a league cup as well. They have only lost Matip who was out of contract and Alcantara who never played. We have sold Hojbjerg and got money in for Parrott and Rodon with an Emerson sale 'imminent'.

This should have been the summer to back our manager, his 2nd season. Everything is in place off the field, stadium money rolling in, wage bill must have had 25% hacked off it in the last 12 months, squad almost cleared out of dross bar 3 or 4. If not now then when?

Window isn’t closed yet so

Normally a hold up player would be to keep the ball while players get forward to support. With Ange everyone is already forward. Who is he holding it up for? Maybe Vicario is on his way.
Someone who has excellent ball retention with angeball is still is a very important skillset to have, especially as a striker. It will more than likely bring one or even two opposing players out of position to get the ball off him, which should help allow the wingers more time and space to find the right pocket of space to receive the ball in a dangerous area.

I'm fully onboard with signing Solanke. I just think the issue for me is the thought of both him and Johnson in a front three. They're both fine players, but they're the sort of players that mid-table Spurs were signing 15-20 years ago. It doesn't feel like our ambition has moved on a great deal.
Couldn't agree with you more regading him and Johnson. Although I think our ambition has definitely increased a meaningful amount, but what you pay now for good players with decent potential has increased to absurd levels.

It has been a very slow market in general, apart from the dodgy clubs rushing to comply with PSR rules nobody in the PL has done anything major yet. There have been 3 major tournaments this summer and lots of players are only just becoming truly available now they are back with their clubs after holidays.

Just be patient and judge our business at the end of the window. The lack of news does not mean we aren’t working on transfers.

There's zero way a "club with ambition" goes into a season with a brand new striker with 1 good season at Bournemouth being backed up by a youth academy prospect with 0 minutes of senior football.

No - that's not how a "club with ambition" operates. A "club with ambition" employs 2 experienced players in any given position and pushes them to compete - winner stays and loser is moved on and replaced...with another experienced option.

I reiterate - people have gone fucking nuts over these academy kids this summer for some reason. Outside of Kane, our academy barely produced anything above Championship quality since Ledley King - yet some of you think it's all of a sudden put out 4 top quality PL players?

Insane. If 1 of these kids becomes a credible squad player at THFC it will be a success. Most will be moved on to Norwich, Wolves, etc.

Alternatives to ST will be Son and Kulusevski too. So the players who had to carry ST position for majority of past season anyway, given that with first 15 + last 15 games Richie contributed massive 2 goals.

Don't even try to claim with straight face that Richie has been someone we can put any trust in, based on his performances so far across 2 seasons.

In that sense I agree with you, that club could go in for 2nd striker at some point too, but I am willing to bet you 100 quid that Solanke IN = selling Richie. And it is more about to do with Richie being a dissapointment than whoever we might bring in.

For those sneering at Solanke, who is the alternative? We can only sign players who want to come to Tottenham. Not being in the CL and being miles away from a trophy is a major handicap. Aside from unproven talents from outside the PL, who else could we get that would bring a reasonable guarantee of goals?

And Liverpool look pretty strong all over the park. They probably need a new centre back too and to sort their keeper situation out but apart from that their squad is strong. Questions over them will be about the manager and his ability in England. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes either way for him at the start.

With us it just feels like an injury anywhere to our starting XI and we become weak and who is to say that won’t happen again. It’s why I thought we needed a good 5 or 6 decent players in this window but we’ll be well short of that. Another fullback or two, centre back, defensive midfielder, winger and striker. I mean, it does not even sound excessive does it?
I think the young signings we have made look good deals for the long term.
My only problem with this is, that we are relying on lot on inexperienced players should injuries occur.
A few bad performances and the confidence levels drop.
It's a difficult situation because, ange system relies on energy/legs which youngsters provide.

I dunno why you're making excuses for us getting Solanke, he's a good player who fits our playstyle, that should be enough for anyone.

Haaland, Isak, Osimhen.

I see no reason why we shouldn't be buying all 3 of those, and no reason why they wouldn't come!

What's really strange to me is that the same people who slag off Solanke seem to want Neto, a player who's never had a more impressive season than Solanke had last year, and is injury prone as well. I wonder if they'd be treating him the same if he was called Pete Net?

Word on the street is that Richy has been told he has no future at the club due to his injury not allowing him to compete at the level Ange needs.

Offer from Saudi, but he wants to stay and fight for his place.
Which street?
Ange said several times that he would have happily used Kane.

Would Kane have been willing to do the press work out of possession to make Ange’s system work ? Who knows?

If he didn’t, then we saw in the Euros, it didn’t matter that’s he’s the best finisher in Europe, and the most complete striker in the world with the ball, no team can afford a total passenger out of possession
well, he’s not going to anger Spurs fans and say that Kane was too slow for his system is he?.

I think everyone accepts that buying Neto for big money is a calculated risk. You only have to watch him play to see that without those two serious injuries he would be playing for a superclub by now. So, do we gamble on his talent and hope he has better luck on the injury front?
