Watching the Solanke fourfourtwo video gives me some positivity as it goes into us tactically second half of it and how Solanke should help the team a lot. Basically how he’s a great focal point and deadly finisher in the penalty area. Alongside his physical output.

Still think we are far to open in wide areas especially when johnson plays because he doesn’t have the attitude to work hard enough going backwards.

The set play nonsense has to stop too. Solanke should help as well here but it isn’t a tonic to the lack of organisation we have on those.

Heres the video again. Tactics about halfway through.

anyone who thinks we are going to stop conceding goals from set plays think again, last season we had a week between most games to work on defending and we didn't do it so now with 3 days between each game so no chance to work on things

There's no combination that will work without a strong 6.

Yeah, it's no surprise that that midfield was humming when Bissouma was on fire and playing with confidence at the start of last season. Maybe Bentancur for Biss, but he doesn't come across as a natural 6. Sarr fell off quite sharply as the season progressed and might be the first to make way, maybe even for the likes of Gray or Bergvall.

They were concerned for a few games after he took over. From what I understand, Celtic had a slow start to the season then they "turned it around", aka got back to their usual ways of winning, after 4-5 games.

At Tottenham, it’s already been one season and it’s been the opposite situation. We started well but ended the season like shit. Not sure you can correlate the two clubs situations based on the forum comments.

And it is the premier league which has no correlation with the SPL at all. At the moment it could go either way. The league could just be too hard for him unless he has some of the best players in it.

Since last November and including these pre-season friendlies, we're too easy to play through, we don't have enough skill on the wings either. Son seems like more of a left sided forward rather than a proper winger.

Just checked i. yes. absolute negative melts here over pre season games 👍 if in dreadful position in dec yes whinge but fucking hell. Ramos won all pre season
Why is it always "negative melts" when people can see blatant issues that exist and need fixing?

We have had an entire season already to observe the evidence of the issues and we are STILL seeing them, it makes zero difference if it's preseason or not, the problem is based around the system and how we are setup to defend and defend set pieces and it hasn't been fixed based on the evidence we have seen from last season and so far this preseason.

It's very easy to shout "Melter!" when you read something you dislike due to your own emotional bias but take your emotion out of it and your love and bias for Ange out of it and you will see we have a huge problem that doesn't bode well for the upcoming season.

I'm frustrated sitting at home conceding the same goals week in week out, surely the players. coaches and manager are ?
if the coaching team don't sort it ( and they didn;t last season) I can see them losing many of the players, then its only one way for the manager

It's something the management and coaching need to resolve quickly, otherwise this will have a huge impact and hinder what they want to achieve.
Failing to address this will cost ange his job, why the fuck has this not been addressed from last season.

in pre-season I can see you have to work on fitness, that is why it should have been worked on last season when we had time between matches
if we had a FB not up to it you would have to coach him until you could upgrade him, we have a "defence" that can't defend set-pieces surely that means the coaches work on it until we can upgrade the "defence unit"

100%.

I’ve no doubt some are just expressing genuine concerns but absolutely will support the team/manager (because that’s what real fans do).

There are a handful (and I literally mean 3/4 posters) who just want Ange to fail just so they brag on here about how they ‘told you so’. Those posters aren’t fans.

The ones who fall into that category will no doubt disagree with this post. :harrylol:

Im OK with the idea of conceding goals and being "open" if we are creating more chances as a result. Thing is, we aren't, and we then concede Sunday league standard goals from set pieces. That isn't sustainable and the coaching staff HAVE to fix it. This is the Premier League. Remember what teams did to Vic last season? They saw he could be got at (illegally, a lot of the time) and did it. Anyone with eyes can see we cannot defend set pieces, it's a zonal mess. If someone as thick as me can see it, so can the elite coaches of the world who will take advantage of it.

Ange’s downfall is going to be his arrogance towards defending. I like Ange but he's such a vibes guy. Continues to remain ignorant about how bad our defensive setup is, our set piece defending and our vulnerability to counters. Our first choice defenders are some of the best in their positions and bail out Ange so much.

Thought this was a great comment from the comment section explaining the rationale behind Solanke being a great fit for us.

"Comparing Solanke's positioning with Celtic's Kyogo is smart. Most English "analysts" haven't taken the time to look at Ange's previous teams, all of which required a front foot, finish in the box forward. Besart Berisha in Brisbane, Junior at Yokohama and Kyogo Furuhashi at Celtic. And when Ange was asked after a game about Kyogo's goals, he would instead reference the strikers pressing and off the ball runs. Solanke is soooo an Ange system forward."
