Surely buying our players is an attempt to buy success, it's just that our board seem to rate success as fourth.
Yeah buying players in an attempt to get success is what’s to be done but our team/squad is no way the best assembled either in our history or in recent history compared to City, United or chavs they went out and bought the best available because they can …..of our squad who is world class?

Romero.

And I think this might be his last season with us, same happened with Modric, Bale, Berbatov, Walker, eventually Kane.

These players want to win stuff and come to realise they won't do it here.

I don't want Ange to fail, can only speak for myself here though when I say that.

Truthfully I don't want any manager we get to fail because my only care is the success of our football club.

The cult of personality around managers just annoys me, when people obsessively love/hate managers based on their personality.

Now don't get that confused with disliking/liking things they say, that's perfectly fine but what I am talking about here is people feeling like they can't get behind a manager because they don't like their personality or on the opposite foot, feeling like they (or more specifically, others) can't be critical of them because they do like their personality and imo, there is too much of that rhetoric on this forum and across society in general.

TLDR: You can absolutely hate the bloke for his personality but if he is doing well at the club who gives a fuck, the same notion can be applied to the fact you can be critical of his ability as a manager or have concerns even if you love the bloke for his personality,

Not that I have any fondness for Jose, but I always loved his analogy of a football team being like that blanket that is a bit too short to cover you entirely.

You either have to to pull it up to your top and leave your feet dangling (the defence exposed) or pull it down the other way and cover your feet leaving your top half cold (the attack isolated and feeding on scraps).

Whatever a coach does you’re gonna be leaving yourself short somewhere. There’s no perfect football formation that covers everything.

When we have the ball and are in the 2-3-5 shape it’s not dissimilar to how the likes of City, Scum, or Liverpool set up, there are variations, but most top teams have something similar.

The key to stopping those transitions against us is the counter press, and how high the defensive line can squeeze the opposition. When it’s Romero/VDV they are comfortable squeezing high as possible, making our ability to press the ball easier.

The big worry for me is the lack of adequate defensive cover should we be missing our key pieces, and the pressing not being sharp enough in preseason. Maybe they are keeping a bit in reserve for the real kickoff, maybe not. Time will tell.

Im OK with the idea of conceding goals and being "open" if we are creating more chances as a result. Thing is, we aren't, and we then concede Sunday league standard goals from set pieces. That isn't sustainable and the coaching staff HAVE to fix it. This is the Premier League. Remember what teams did to Vic last season? They saw he could be got at (illegally, a lot of the time) and did it. Anyone with eyes can see we cannot defend set pieces, it's a zonal mess. If someone as thick as me can see it, so can the elite coaches of the world who will take advantage of it.
You can't continue being constantly open it's suicide,we won't be able to batter every team we play.
Teams will defend deep against us, then hit us on the break when the midfield is vacated.

What’s frustrating is that our set piece system isn’t any different to what other top teams do. A few players man mark and the rest get a zone to defend. We are just terribly drilled. You can see from the way players get drawn under the ball, don’t look around them, don’t react quickly, that we don’t practice this stuff properly.

I get not wanting to put a microscopic focus on it as a coach because there’s a risk that it becomes a psychological complex that can’t be fixed, this happened to Rodgers at Leicester. But we have to put more attention on it. We are conceding 1-2 goals a game from this rubbish. It would be embarrassing to get the sack because you can’t get them to head a ball away.

It’s the same way City or Woolwich play. The idea is to pressure the them so they can’t play a good ball to start the counter and end up lobbing it back to our CBs. We did this well most of the season, it was when the press broke down due to injuries and using the same players most of the season that we were way too open,

Ange spoke about having more rotation options to hopefully avoid this breakdown.

I expect him to use 5 subs most games and make earlier substitutions.

I think we now have good options in the midfield and defence where the drop off is not severe. The likes of Gray/Spence should come in regularly at full back. Bergvall, Bentancur, Kulu will play a lot. Solanke and Richy will rotate plenty.

The issue for us is on the wings. Werner will only play if Son is injured so I reckon we see Son being run into the ground again since we didn't get in proper cover.

Hopefully we sign a top RW and Kulu/Johnson become the rotation option there but right now it's a weak spot in the team.

Yeah, my big worry is they try to use Son in the PL and Europa. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

We don't have the players that city or Woolwich have for retaining possession.
All we can do is wait and see how the season starts.

Neither did Arteta the first three seasons, but he kept the structure and kept improving the squad. If you introduce the idea that the players can go on the back foot sometimes then you’ll never be a true front foot team as they’ll use it as a crutch when times get tough.

Poch was the same, even though we didn’t have the players to play through Klopp’s press at Anfield, he kept instructing them to do it, and we gave up cheap goals as a result.

It's the tactical flexibility for me, it's literally the only thing but he had 1 bad run, he deserves time like we will give him but he is being backed as much as our club will back a manager

I'd love to see us take the Europa seriously
That was one of the worst runs of form in our recent history though. The problem with giving him time is that should last season's form continue in to the new season, the new season will be a write off before Christmas.
It's a difficult situation tbh.

100% wrong. This strange vanity among football fans on social media that there gibberish will actually impact what happens to the team. Most Paying fans are merely worn down by systemic failure. They don't want Ange to fail no more than they did: ..Stelini Conte, Nuno,Mason Jose Mason, Pochettino, AVB, Redknapp to. It's never as simple as white hats and black hats.

Well. .Fucking. .Said

Why is it always "negative melts" when people can see blatant issues that exist and need fixing?

We have had an entire season already to observe the evidence of the issues and we are STILL seeing them, it makes zero difference if it's preseason or not, the problem is based around the system and how we are setup to defend and defend set pieces and it hasn't been fixed based on the evidence we have seen from last season and so far this preseason.

It's very easy to shout "Melter!" when you read something you dislike due to your own emotional bias but take your emotion out of it and your love and bias for Ange out of it and you will see we have a huge problem that doesn't bode well for the upcoming season.
It's one of the strangest things on this forum (and, I would imagine, all spurs forums, as much of the fanbase seems to trend towards defending deficiencies and mediocrity... super weird).

Our fanbase is in the gutter

Bunch of happy clappers that have been blinded by a shiny stadium and endless Buzzwords from the ENIC PR Machine
