I’m not sure that the people who are clamoring for a backup at LB are considering our registration of players (squad management) particularly for the Europa League where Bergvall and Gray don’t qualify as U-21.

We’re certainly not buying a RW and a backup LB and registering everyone without shifting more players —Reg and GLC a given — and selling Skipp who seems to be the thread’s co-favorite to be sold won’t help us in Europe.
Solomon won’t be registered in that case

Solomon. That allows for a RW and LB i believe. Then i'd agree any activity on top of that, keeper for example then it needs to be Forster out or not registered for Europe.

Do you reckon any other fanbase go on about this HG/CT shit as much as Spurs fans?
I guess the one’s that play football management games where real-life squad management isn’t part of the game don’t really care. They are probably happy at cutting players in January because you’ve fucked up your loan count. After all, it’s just pressing a button.

Everybody else probably has an awareness that signing players that you can’t register is considered a bit of a waste of time.

By registering less than your full allowance, you’re also limiting your ability to rotate senior players but that’s okay. It’s not like the Europa League adds any burden in terms of player fitness.

Going to add that there’s a full on Reddit topic on the Chavs and how they’re trying (not) to manage their squad given the cap on international loans. Seems as if they actually have a few fans who aren’t totally brain dead too.

The only positive from selling Skipp is whether Ange decides to include Devine and Donley in his squad (both would qualify as List B players so in addition to the rest of the squad) on the basis that he can split the minutes Skipp would have played between them in europe.

IMO both have played well in pre-season and in terms of playing quality done as well (or even better) as most of our midfield options - Devine can play as a DLP ala Carrick as well as an AM, whilst Donley could understudy Maddison as well as being LB in easier EL games - which could usefully strengthen and add depth to the squad.

But they'd need to play say 1,000+ minutes each as otherwise both likely to get more out of loans : Ange could keep them and try playing them until Christmas when we have easier EL games and maybe League cup, before deciding on his playing requirements in 2nd half of the season.

Long term the aim should be to include them as Club trained players to increase the size of the squad in future seasons

Great post.
Couldn’t agree more.
I do expect a loan for at least one of them if not both.

Tbf I don't think I've seen any posts claiming we WOULDN'T sign a player for 60M or we WOULDN'T sign a player to compete for the first team.
Maybe there's been one or two and I've missed them, but they've been very few and far between if so

This is what so many of us just can't get our head around. Why are ENIC supporters so desperate to defend them they have to make up or exaggerate their claims. Why is it that whenever we sign a player, it's used as some kind of evidence that they mist be doing a good job and shifting their focus on to winning?

It's like justifying the actions of the owners is more stimulating / rewarding than yearning to see us lift a trophy.

And any pro ENIC post like yours is fine in the transfer thread. Whereas a reasonable reply like this will be shouted down as off topic!!!

You're a sneaky one aren't ya! My posts aren't pro ENIC as much as you want them to be.

Firstly there have been plenty of posts complaining that we wouldn't spend the money we needed to to bring in the players we needed.

Secondly there were pages and pages of people talking about how we need to be buying players of quality to compete for starting places.

We did and this signing should be judged against what people wanted.

Pleased you've finally found the reply button to my posts after ignoring me for 2 weeks when I was asking you about actual football related stuff in a transfer thread predominantly about footballers.

Of course, you're more of an expert on chairmen so I'm not surprised this is the one you choose to respond to.

Nice to see all that dross being moved on. Does feel like we are targeting a higher level of technical quality.

Hopefully the likes of Werner/Johnson are outliers and we continue adding ballers in the Bergvall mould to the squad. Can never have enough technical players.
Spot on. Irrespective of whatever style you want to play, if you're aiming to compete for trophies then you need as many as you can get as they are the players that can take, keep and play the ball no matter the system or the pressure you're under. Obviously difficult to fill out the entire squad with them like City but at the very least the starting eleven needs to be technically competent as a minimum.
