I think we can agree that it’s not proven to be true but maybe there are players who would choose a club with lesser players in their position but also Chelsea offers a pretty conclusive case study to the opposite.
Yes I think that's an appropriate middle-ground, both extremes do exist. :)

However with Hincipae, given what has been said about him this week, it seems unlikely (to me at least) that he would come to us with Udogie 'in his way'. Who knows, maybe we will sign him next week and I'll eat my words. But if he doesn't want to come to us, there's is a perfectly sensible explanation of why. :)

LW: Son, Werner (Moore)
CF: Solanke, Richy (Lankshear)
RW: Kulu, Johnson (Odobert)

Pretty solid depth that.

Effectively replacing Gil and Solomon with Odobert and Moore is undoubtedly an upgrade.

That's 3 very exciting youngsters providing cover my only concern would be how many minutes they will grab, especially Lankshear.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see either of Moore or Odobert have a breakthrough season and leapfrog Werner/Johnson.

It's great that they are both able to operate on either flank.

Yang joining in Jan too - we've suddenly gone from 0 dribbly wingers to 3 very promising you talents.

Nothing strange about it. We’re all entitled to our opinions, as you rightly said in your first post.

Suggest you refrain from being abusive in future. I’ll let it slide this once. Only once. Only once can I and should I let it slide.

I even said I agreed with you re a new GK.

It doesn’t matter who we sign though, some of you will always want an excuse to moan. Kinda sad really but you do you.

No need to reply btw. Consider this the final and definitive word on the matter.

Edit: Oh and get your tongue out of his arse skywalker68 you boot-licker. Nobody cares what you have to say.

I have no idea for Hincapié. I’ve not really seen any actual quotes but maybe I’ve missed those?

Probably his agent is putting out noise and making it clear he sees his player as a star. If Liverpool and Spurs are the options, Hincapié himself could well still be interested. We will have to see

There's literally been 0 links with Hincapie this window from any journalist.

If there are 2 more in then, in addition to GLC, Reg, Solomon and Phillips out and Forster not included, 2 more need to go from the Euro squad.
My guess is Bissouma and Davies or maybe Gray? Possibly Davies kept in and Odobert left out?
Potentially:

We’re in a tough spot with the UEFA list, I think we will try and replace Bissouma but I just can’t see us leaving out a first teamer unless it’s a last resort. I think Forster would be the most likely if it came to it.

I think this is a good case for your argument mate:

There’s no reason Gomes would swap their bench for a shot at our rotation against VDV or UDog.

But I’d also argue we don’t want Gomes for the same reason. Liverpool will want to replace him with someone pushing for stars and we also want to catch them up so should be looking for the same

Absolutely, and this is the 'trick' - improving your team and/or squad by getting players who genuinely want to come, and who do genuinely improve us overall.

If you take LBs as an example, how many of our rivals have 2 LBs as good as Udogie and Hincipae?

City can do such things more often, because they have the added attraction that if you play a few games, you'll almost certainly get an EPL winners' medal - no one else can offer that, and for some players the likelihood of that medal might be more important than playing time.

Chelsea are a freak, goodness knows what goes through players' minds when they sign for them. Even if when they are signed they are likely to get lots of minutes in their position, that almost certainly won't be the case for very long as they sign players like crazy. Perhaps most of their players are just there for the money (which would partly explain why they looked so disjointed throughout last season, despite having lots of talent).

So for us (and 99% of clubs):
- top priority should be to sign players who are likely to play lots, and immediately improve our 'first eleven' (or most regular players if you don't like the idea of a first 11).
- next in an ideal world we buy players who are as good, or nearly as good, as our first choice players, to rotate. But in reality in many instances they might be reluctant to come.
- therefore realistically you sign players who are not quite as good as our first choices, but are adequate to 'do a job' when they need to play (or perhaps younger players with potential etc).

Having 2 equally good 'very good' players for each positon - such as Udogie and Hincipae for example - is just not realistic in most instances.

But as you say, we don't know for certain what Hincipae's 'drivers' are - perhaps we will find out in the next week or so. :)

I think we actually have an opportunity to have real depth and strength if they get the right player who can rotate with Udogie and VDV. Calafiori would have been great but Hincapié is a similar profile.
