How Dry should our Powder be?

If this was the NBA I feel like somehow we just got the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick.

I can't think of any young player joining another prem club this season better than Bergvall, Gray, and Odobert. Yang as well could really be top 5 but I have no idea how to rate him yet.

In terms of the trade period I think it's fair to say other teams have had better windows than us for senior players getting traded. What we have done is clear a ton of cap space to make room for a superstar or 2 and brought in a center to build the team around.

Just to get this thread back on track from the pointless arguing. What is the percentage chance we sign another player this window?

I’m going with 20%. All links are dry and it seems there’s very little movement elsewhere. Obviously deadline day always contains a surprise but things seem done at this point.

What do other people think?
10%. Looks pretty dead for us and if it is someone dont expect anything big.

I think we're definitely done.

Just Reggie, Gio and Devine sale/loans to sort.

Minteh looks absolute mint (pun intended) at Brighton. They’ve done great business for him. They’ve got a couple others, Gruda as well was a huge prospect.

Don’t know much about Chelsea but the Estevao Willian they’ve signed from Brazil is meant to be absolutely amazing, as is Paez. Much to be seen of course but they battled Madrid and Barca for them two.

City got Echeverri who’s a great young Argentine prospect.

Leny Yoro was regarded as best young CB in world football obviously got hurt but £60m for a CB shows his quality. Again beat Madrid for him.

I wouldn’t say we have the 3 best youth prospects. I’m very happy with all 3 but other clubs have bought great youngsters too. Obviously time will tell.

"We've done nothing this window"

That's an interesting take. Not one I personally agree with but it's a valid opinion as those that believe this to be the case sit equally along with every other opinion. Fascinating isn't it
It is a fact that this is their opinion. And their opinion is not normally a fact in and of itself.

But, stating an opinion that is clearly falsifiable means it is a statement of fact, and therefore subject to the rigorous scrutiny of forum pedants such as myself.

So, to whomever you were responding: *cough* Your 'opinion' is wrong. Wrong, I tell you!

Bought 2 starters (Solanke and Odobert)
Bought in 2 subs. (Gray and Bergvall)
Signed up an academy star (Moore)
Got rid of at least 8 unwanted players and removed £600k a week from the wage bill while only increasing it by £400k.

Net result is we've left £200k a week in the kitty for a last-minute deal.

We've bought one single player that you can make a case walks into our strongest 11 from last season and improves us

Solanke

I'm sceptical that he's really much of an upgrade on Richarlison but we'll see

Everything else is building for a future that never comes

We're living in a world now where a Bergvall or an Oderbert can have a promising 45 min cameo and suddenly gets declared as generational and a game changer

It's a 5 year olds mentality and one I won't be subscribing to , no matter how much the real fan brigade on here continue to cajole and abuse anyone that isn't getting giddy on unfounded hype

These guys might all turn out to be incredible , I really hope they do

But history suggests this is unlikely

We finished 20-3O points behind the top three last year

Put aside all the bullshit and bluster , Do you really see us significantly bridging that gap with our squad as it stands today ? Factoring in European football too

Klopp took what three years to put together a trophy winning team, Pep a couple of seasons with unlimited finances, and Arteta how long?

You just expect to spend our way to success not unlike Chelsea have done with their six managers since 2022?

Yes six.

We did indeed finish 20-30 points behind the top three last season Ange's first, or another way of looking at it was two points off a CL spot?

With a new manager, system and tactics, and two transfer windows?

Klopp finished 25 points off top spot in his first season by the way, 17 in his second and 25 in his third.

Selective memory is hard to overcome, unless you look at the facts and data.

They want to argue with their specific points. It's a real divide but mostly respectful. It's good.

if you've seen Chiesa in the past 3 years, you'd know you're describing 2021 Chiesa.

I have a rule of thumb that says if a supposed elite club is actively letting a player in their supposed prime go, then your first question should be, what's wrong with him?

Juventus aren't a bunch of idiots, this reminds me of when Liverpool bought Thiago off Bayern. Big sexy name signed to much fanfare, but now he's retired at just 33.

You can bet your mortgage on us/The Club having a cursory interest in a big name player that is available at a reduced cost - people don't seem to realise however that such a player being available doesn't automatically mean the manager would want him

Rubbish on so many levels. Too many to dissect.

I'm actually quite insulted if I'm presumed to be in that group of so callled entitled.

A few have called for central midfielders with experience and solidity as that seems to be absent. How is that asking for too much?

And then a few have said we need left back cover. I am not so sure personally but it's a reasonable call. Give me a better striker tha Richarlison but....

Talk of our wide men is for me unnecessary, as they are decent. Just lacking in confidence maybe.

Wanting a club to bd as competitive on the pitch as much as it is off it (within) reason is not entitled..

I am glad that you are "quite insulted", it means that you have read my whole post.

Thanks.

I'd put it at 65% as I didn't get the impression from Ange that he's expecting us to be finished.

I just don't have faith that it will be a player that will have much impact on our ability to challenge.

How would you rank them?

Yoro is probably a good shout as being a high draft pick for the analogy. Estevao Willian for Chelsea isn't joining them yet so count him when he actually joins to play. Same goes for Echeverri if he's a draft and stash that isn't playing his rookie season.

Probably I need to take Odobert out of the analogy too because his rookie season was with Burnley.

The fact that you can't sign a player on a three year contract then you just get rid if things don't work out.

That post really, truly isn't that fucking hard to understand.
One is a good pro who was and possibly still is a top player who you'd imagine would want to play even if things dont work out Liverpool. The other is a lazy piece of shit with delusions of grandeur. One cost £10m, the other£60m. Other than big wages there is no common ground.

Son just has to plsy slightly differently. Still by far our most lethal in front of goal..

We wait to see if Solanke usurps him.
Solanke & Odobert, these don't just help us because of their quality as individuals, they help Sonny as well. Ange is looking to get it done by committee, which is a far healthier situation than the Kane/Son or bust strategy we've been using for 4-5 years.

Solanke (and possibly Odobert) aside - yes you can certainly argue that we haven't improved the first XI through transfers. However this ignores the context that it was the inability of several squad players to hack Angeball that was our downfall last season. One can't argue that Emerson, Dier, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Bryan & Solomon have all been improved upon.

Also as the squad is now very young, i expect they will get better as individuals and therefore as a collective.
