Well if Son does play on the left I'd like to see him as a kind of inside left forward rather than a winger. I know Ange won't do that though, it doesn't fit with his system.

I'd like to just see him take his man on tbh.
Saying that, there's been quite an obvious change to Ange's system on that left side this season.
Son played CF against Everton last week right? He seems to be first choice after Solanke and Richarlison who are both injured.
I'm not saying that's where I want him to play I just think Ange sees him next in line in the CF position.
I agree he's not good at holding the ball up, and neither is he good at getting onto crosses.
Playing centre forward against Everton at home is a bit different to playing centre forward against Newcastle away.
If we play Son upfront tomorrow, we've learnt sweet fuck all from last season and we may aswell just write the game off and move on to the international break with a loss.
Very nervous about tomorrow, Newcastle on paper have the perfect team setup to play against our Ange tactics, with extremely dangerous and speedy front 3 on the break and a very strong and mobile midfield who will give us no time at all in the middle of the park.
I suspect they will be happy to sit back and let space open if we try to dominate the ball and hit us on the counter, or they could go high press and unsettle us that way as we have seen them try to do in other games. Either way it could be a really really tricky game, more so than we would find against other teams of the same kind of level just because they have tools which suit playing us.
Hopefully Ange has a good look at it to try and figure out how we can mitigate the counter threat without sacrificing too much attacking output. Will be interesting.

None of the options for our CF tomorrow are good. It's between Son and Kulusevski by the looks of things. I imagine Newcastle are happy that our two main CFs are both injured.
I'd take Kulusevski over Son as forward tomorrow. At least he can hold the ball up. And it also means we're stronger out wide.
Luckily for us, both Newcastles strongest CBs are both out too.
That would be the happy clappers line angled around on here, that's for sure. .

Thing is Ange seems to want the left and right forward players to stay wide, he thinks it going to stretch defeneces. I think he expects the inverted full backs to support the CF more centrally.

Johnson will stay wide which would suit but doesn’t do enough with the ball whereas Sonny likes cutting in
Kulu can hold the ball up though and will be strong enough to withstand challenges

Neither would surprise me.
I hope that Ange will consider how bad Son was at holding the ball up in this game last season and put him on the left with Deki central. I think that will help us a lot, we saw it in preseason and we also did something similar in the run-in last season when Sarr played as our central attacker in one match.

You cant say he hopes he learns from last seasons game and move Son to the left, only to play the exact same midfield that got bossed by Newcastles second string.
