Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It does get us nowhere. The top class managers wont work here because they dont get the types of players they're use to to win and when we do land on a good manager (poch) we dont keep backing him enough to keep the squad ticking over then it all goes stale

Yup.

We hired top class managers though and that wasn't the silver bullet Levy thought it would be either.

Make a plan that you believe in, stick to the plan, even when it gets really difficult to do that and others around you lose belief and you might have a chance to compete.

Either that or you buy the best talent on the market as they hit their peak but we know these owners won't do that. What are people really expecting to happen.

Does anyone seriously think there is a coach out there who would come to work in these conditions and never have moments where there are doubts that their plan is going to work?

We had less than one xG. What chances?

Both teams created diddly shit. Except one team were missing 2/3 of their midfield including their best player.

And one team were away from home and knew they were against a team who will always concede/make an error whereas they are confident in their ability to keep clean sheets.

We continually play out these carbon copy affairs and people are STILL talking about the ‘control’ we have in them. Control of what? We keep losing!
So what about last year when they sat back and countered us constantly, I don't really recall that happening today. The set pieces are poor, that is really pissing me off.

Newcastle away last two years we have been continually battered, last year against Woolwich we got battered and were getting countered left right and centre. If you can't see the bigger picture of what we are trying to do then then i'm pretty baffled tbh.

Woolwich let us have control of the game because of the way we press, their own manager said that. It wasn't a walk in the park like some of you imagine, it was a close game separated by a stupid free header from a corner.

That is the problem. Again there were high turnovers in really dangerous situations where the attackers failed to even turn the situation into a chance. There were times we actually had counter attack chances too and didn't create a shot either.

I think Ange is referring to opportunities to create good chances and we have created those every game and fucked them up every game.

When you play against a team playing Jose tactics of sitting with 11 behind the ball, you have to covert those situations into chances and those chances into goals. We aren't doing that atm.

lose to brentford and united and hes gone surely?
I don't think so. It would create a bad environment, certainly, but so much of what Spurs front office wants to achieve with this set of players is built around Postecoglou's system. Given they have been in the thick of it in every game this season I think that will continue. Brentford should be a win and I think they can give City something to think about. Probably a win and a loss, not very likely to be two losses. I wouldn't have hired Postecoglou, but now that he's here you have to see things through. Wins are coming, it's just a question of how many and how soon.

Pointless even talking about the manager imo...
He's nut getting the tools to compete, just like every other manager this board employs...
Same old shit over and over, that why I'm not surprised anymore, and actually quite numb to it all. I just don't care that much anymore, thanks to levy and Co...
Oh and by the way I actually do think that ange is well out of his depth, but sacking him is pointless.
It gets us nowhere until enic piss off....

We need to score goals and win games.

That’s it
There are a lot of good players and Spurs have been in every game with a chance to get points. Things will improve soon. If there is going to be a question of keeping the manager or not it will be at the end of the season, not during this. The play so far is so much improved that I don't see the bottom dropping out. Plus, Postecoglou really worked the fans when he arrived and he has a lot of built up good will. I'd like to see a different manager and different approach, but I'd wager for everyone like myself there are five people who still are Big Ange fans. It's going to take a lot to convince them and they would be outraged to see him go.

Eh?

Other teams don't choose to let us dominate the ball and repeatedly turn them over with the press. They don't have a choice because the press actually works.
They absolutely fucking do.
I suspect even teams at the top end of the table, as Woolwich have the last 2 games and even City, will happily just give us the ball and wait for the chances we WILL give them.

We're a disaster. We do fuck all with (a lot of) the ball and can't defend for shit without it.

They only direction we're headed is downwards.

Thing is, if we sack Ange we'll be back to square one yet again.
We will have to have a few shit years in order to progress or its just rinse and repeat.
I do see your logic and there is merit in it to a point. The problem is we have a manager that is way out of his depth. The new manager bounce that he got last season in first 10 games have him a cushion all season.

We are not going to progress under him. I do share your concerns though. If he is moved on, chances are they’ll go and appoint someone even more out of their depth!

I agree, we are dammed if we sack him or dammed if we don't.

It's not gonna get better and he definitely ain't gonna last the season.
And tbh, his body language doesn't even tell me he wants it to either.
Outside of 10 games when teams didn't know what we were doing, we've been cack and we've been getting worse.

The evidence we have from our club is that it isn’t.

We have seen time and time again that changing managers gets us nowhere
Changing Santini for Jol elevated us.
Changing Ramos to Redknapp saved and then elevated us.
Changing AVB for Poch elevated us
Changing Nuno for Conte sorted us out at least initially

Levy doesn't want to finish 12th mate. He wants Europe every season. He will sack Ange as soon as he thinks there's a chance he's not gonna do it.
I'd be shocked if he wasn't already thinking about after games 11 to 38 last season tbh.

WALOB

Yes Howe and Arteta absolutely told their players to let us turn them over repeatedly outside their own 18 yard box.

I'm going to say this and duck below the keyboard, but I think Richarlison being out has hurt. He's problematic, but he has a sense of where he needs to be around the goal and he can pick up the odd chance when things get chaotic, which good goal scorers do. As for Postecoglou, I think things will get better in the near future, and the real conversation will be at the end of the season and then only if he misses top four.

Poch had people calling for his head at the start of his second season and started with even less points than Ange has right now.

Poch is the perfect example of why you do stick with a coach.
Poch started that season not great. 3 pts from 4 games. Then 2 1-0 wins but really clicked with the City 4-1 match. We only lost 1 of our first 15, were good at the back and looked a threat. I dont think any of that applies to the current team. We were gradually improving then

That City match was the 7th league game which will be Utd away this season before the international break. He'll get until then i'm sure but if he wants to go much further then he needs to improve massively. We know Levy, if we're knocking around in 12th or 13th in October then Ange is on the thinnest of ice.
