This is what frustrates me about fans sometimes.
They want to say they can’t see improvement in the problems from last year but the improvements are plan as day.
Same thing with the idea of being weak defensively. We’ve conceded less than the best defensive team in the Prem so far and haven’t conceded one on the counter yet from 4 games.
The forwards aren’t executing but the improvement in so many areas is so clear. Just need results to click. The shit our forwards are fucking up is disgraceful as well. The way they waste high turnovers should be embarrassing for them.
It’s got Southgate written all over it imho.As for Ange himself knowing our luck if we sack him some idiot will bring Southgate in.
I don’t disagree at all.I don’t disagree we look shape wise far better defensively than last season but our forwards are a bit wank.
Trouble is this isn’t new for our club. Remember Conte needing 3 top CB’s and decent wing backs only to now get them now he is gone. We are in the same situation with Ange needing decent wingers. We should have gone full steam for Neto or Sancho or hell even Sterling but it sounds like our wages don’t match.
We could easily end up costing another manager a job simply due to us giving them dud tools again. This cycle is tiring, I am tired of it happening, tired of talking about it.

Apparently Levy is a fan…
I'm not, at all.I'm really confident Ange will turn this around. To me it feels inevitable given how dominant we are in most areas. It's simply a case of us needing to be more ruthless. I really dont see the coaching issue! I turned on all 3 of Mourinho, Nuno and Conte when both performances and results dropped, so I'm not someone who always backs the manager regardless of performances.
A lot of people seem to agree that we have been found out. Park the bus, and hit us on set pieces.
So do we revert to the Jose / Conte mentality of sitting back and punishing mistakes by the other team? Whilst waiting for a wonder goal from Kane to bail us out?
Or do we go for the Poch approach, of controlling the game in midfield....Whilst waiting for a wonder goal from Kane, Dele to bail us out?
If we play pragmatic football, we will only ever be a team that achieves top 4 at best.
I see what Ange is building. We ARE dominating games, we are seeing the ball in the opps final third for much of the game. What we need is for the forwards to click and find their mojo in breaking down teams that park the bus. We won't improve in this are by sitting back.
If the forwards improve, we will be winning games by 2/3 goal margins every week.
It was. Although I agree with Harry7's main point personally. Need to get the forwards clicking and that's currently a huge challenge for Ange, but I don't see it as the whole style of play needs changing. The poch era was a lot more than just kane and alli bailing us out
I'm not a coach happy clapper. I largely stayed out of this thread last year because I wanted to judge Ange on what I saw because I had nothing to base any prior opinion on. I know fuck all about the Australian or Japanese leagues and everyone wins the SPL with Celtic.
I was pretty impressed with how quickly we adapted to a clear, identifiable playing style last season. Results did not surprise me at all, we finished higher than I expected because I think teams like Newcastle and ManU had stronger squads than we did and the mid clubs have become much smarter recruiters and coached over the last few years. We had a squad that was absolute garbage, I hated it. I still hate more of the forwards and think none of the back four are great 1v1 or box defenders.
I know many think it bollocks but I like to look at the underlying metrics, and ignore results, to get a feel for what's generally happening between the goals to get a feel for what my eyes are or aren't telling me. I'm not going to post them here, but many recent metrics are posted in the tactical autopsy thread.
They nearly all tell the same story. We are one of the most aggressive and effective teams without the ball, in most of the right areas of the pitch. 2 years ago we were literally the laziest and shittest team without the ball in the league. We have so far this season drastically reduced our Expected Goals Against (XGA), to the point that it is better than Woolwich's - who were the best defensive team in the PL last year. Things like our Expected threat (ie what we do before the final or pre final action are up there with the best. Ball progression through the 3rds, Passing intensity v Possession, ball control of the pitch, PPDA and Pressing intensity (Passes per defensive action) % of opponent sequences with a box entry, High block defending/high penetration, Tackles won, shots taken vs shots conceded. We are top or top 3 ish for nearly all these metrics.
The one's we are not doing so well (in some cases we are very low down) is some of the final third stuff, percentage of shot conversion, XG, goals vs XG etc.
All of the above is available in the Tactical Autopsy thread.
We have conceded one less goal than ManC and scored the same as Arse.
These indicators tell me that we are doing nearly all of the important stuff, the stuff that the best teams (manC, Liverpool etc) are doing pretty well, in some cases better than they are.
What we don't have is the quality of personnel in forward and creative positions to make all that good shit count for enough.
What I'm seeing is good coaching of the important facets, the facets that good teams do well. What I'm also seeing is some really substandard attacking and creative players.
On that basis I am very much behind what Postecoglu is trying to coach. I certainly can't think of a coach who could come in and do the fundamentals better, improve shit cunts like Johnson, Son, Werner, Odobert, Kulusevski etc into deadly world beating forwards.
Just look at the attacking/creative options of teams like Liverpool and Chelsea. I'm pretty sure if we had their options, we'd be doing a fuck of a lot better right now, because we are doing the all the other stuff as well or better than them.
Just had a look at previous Celtic managers.
Quite a reality to see Neil Lennon won 10 Trophies ( 5 in each Spell. Same as Ange’s 5 trophies ).
I don’t think anyone in their right mind would have picked Neil Lennon to be Spurs boss ?
Albeit in longer time Brendan Rodgers is on 9 trophies and counting up there. I don’t think anyone would have picked him. ( although right now I bloody would )
Kevin Muscat. Remember him ? Well he’s won the J League as many times as Ange and more recently. He’s won 2 A league championships to Ange’s 1.
Take away the PR, and ask yourselves…how the fuck did Ange fall this far upwards ?
It’s totally fucking absurd Ange is Tottenham manager. Lovely fella. Admirable values. Nice story. But is he more credible than Ted Lasso?
Forwards don’t just "click" ffs. Don’t know what sort of copium this is or just ignorance. Football is not some arbitrary sport where good things happen out of the blue. What we need is for the forwards to click and find their mojo in breaking down teams that park the bus.
Doubt very much that we will whack many teams 3 or 4 , unless they are wanky teams like Everton.I'm really confident Ange will turn this around.
I'm actually in shock that so many have given up on Ange after 14 months. I've seen so much positive changes since his arrival. Results have been below par recently, the stats dont lie, but to me it feels inevitable that the results will come. I can see us whacking a few teams by 3 or 4 goals in the next few games. I hope it happens as its clear some of you need them type of results to get back onboard.
How do we keep the same intensity and press to create high turnovers with 3 at the back?
You are also completely giving up the middle of the pitch if you have Porro and Udogie as outside full backs
From the Athletic
The Tottenham manager spoke at length when asked about his team’s record at set-pieces. “For some reason people think I don’t care about set-pieces and it is a narrative you can keep going with for ages and ages. I understand that,” he said.
“We work on them all the time like any other team we know they are a threat. For the most part we handled them really well but we switched off for one and we paid the price. You learn from that and move on. It is what it is. It is my burden to carry and I’m happy to do it.
“There’s a bigger picture that’s at play here that is much more important than the finer details of us getting to where we want to. For us the way forward is to try to turn the football we are playing now into something meaningful.
I don’t disagree at all.
The fact we have CBs finally just shows you how long it takes to fix squad issues at this club.
That’s not on Ange and it’s clearly not going to be a quick fix.
I don’t really understand why Spurs fans can’t see that flapping from coach to coach everytime things get difficult is great for media clicks, controversy and social media “banter” sakesmen but the exact opposite of what we need to actually prove the media and banter merchants wrong.
I don’t full agree with this tweet because banter is part of football with rivals but it’s become the only thing that matters now.

A long term approach is the ONLY hope we have at this club because we know they won’t spend the money to get players who win in the short term. Either we take the pain of banter and the odd frustration along the way, or we stay in the loop permanently.
100% thisQuite right. The boos should not be for Ange. That gives Baldy an excuse to rip it all up and start again using his normal “model”.
I’m still really pissed off about the NLD, I’m sure everyone is. But we all know what happens next when the crowd gets restless with the manager, who is only working with what he’s been given.
