we are better at defending corners, But that has taken a year to get to, how can it take that long ? we had NO midweek football last season sothere was lotsof time for coaching & training
we can all sit here saying he should play this way or that, he only has one way to play, so how does he improve that, well its training & coacxhing , again last season we had lots of time for that (any improvement seen ?) trhis season we don't have time as we have mid-week football most weeks

I don’t disagree we look shape wise far better defensively than last season but our forwards are a bit wank.

Trouble is this isn’t new for our club. Remember Conte needing 3 top CB’s and decent wing backs only to now get them now he is gone. We are in the same situation with Ange needing decent wingers. We should have gone full steam for Neto or Sancho or hell even Sterling but it sounds like our wages don’t match.

We could easily end up costing another manager a job simply due to us giving them dud tools again. This cycle is tiring, I am tired of it happening, tired of talking about it.

As for Ange himself knowing our luck if we sack him some idiot will bring Southgate in.

I don’t disagree at all.

The fact we have CBs finally just shows you how long it takes to fix squad issues at this club.

That’s not on Ange and it’s clearly not going to be a quick fix.

I don’t really understand why Spurs fans can’t see that flapping from coach to coach everytime things get difficult is great for media clicks, controversy, and social media “banter” salesmen, but the exact opposite of what we need to actually prove the media and banter merchants wrong.

I don’t full agree with this tweet because banter is part of football with rivals but it’s become the only thing that matters now.

A long term approach is the ONLY hope we have at this club because we know they won’t spend the money to get players who win in the short term. Either we take the pain of banter and the odd frustration along the way, or we stay in the loop permanently.

I'm really confident Ange will turn this around. To me it feels inevitable given how dominant we are in most areas. It's simply a case of us needing to be more ruthless. I really dont see the coaching issue! I turned on all 3 of Mourinho, Nuno and Conte when both performances and results dropped, so I'm not someone who always backs the manager regardless of performances.

I'm actually in shock that so many have given up on Ange after 14 months. I've seen so much positive changes since his arrival. Results have been below par recently, the stats dont lie, but to me it feels inevitable that the results will come. I can see us whacking a few teams by 3 or 4 goals in the next few games. I hope it happens as its clear some of you need them type of results to get back onboard.

I'm not, at all.

I don't think Ange is up to the task, which is a huge one. Working under Levy/ENIC must be incredibly difficult - managers with impeccable CVs have come up short with us. I also feel our search to replace him will be a fiasco.

There's a shot of morning optimism - thank me later.

I see what Ange is building. We ARE dominating games, we are seeing the ball in the opps final third for much of the game. What we need is for the forwards to click and find their mojo in breaking down teams that park the bus. We won't improve in this are by sitting back.

If the forwards improve, we will be winning games by 2/3 goal margins every week.

The poch era was a lot more than just kane and alli bailing us out
 
I’ve kind of changed my mind after Sunday. Unless we are in a relegation scrap I would keep him until the summer, just in case there is any signs of improvement.
I don’t think we will improve , I think we will end up 7th in the league, and get knocked out early in the europa , but we surely have to stick it out. This club is a total laughing stock as it is. We can’t have another manager this year surely .

I was pretty impressed with how quickly we adapted to a clear, identifiable playing style last season. I'm not going to post them here, but many recent metrics are posted in the tactical autopsy thread.

They nearly all tell the same story. We are one of the most aggressive and effective teams without the ball, in most of the right areas of the pitch. 2 years ago we were literally the laziest and shittest team without the ball in the league. We have so far this season drastically reduced our Expected Goals Against (XGA), to the point that it is better than Woolwich's - who were the best defensive team in the PL last year. Things like our Expected threat (ie what we do before the final or pre final action are up there with the best. Ball progression through the 3rds, Passing intensity v Possession, ball control of the pitch, PPDA and Pressing intensity (Passes per defensive action) % of opponent sequences with a box entry, High block defending/high penetration, Tackles won, shots taken vs shots conceded. We are top or top 3 ish for nearly all these metrics.

The one's we are not doing so well (in some cases we are very low down) is some of the final third stuff, percentage of shot conversion, XG, goals vs XG etc.

We have conceded one less goal than ManC and scored the same as Arse.

These indicators tell me that we are doing nearly all of the important stuff, the stuff that the best teams (manC, Liverpool etc) are doing pretty well, in some cases better than they are.

What we don't have is the quality of personnel in forward and creative positions to make all that good shit count for enough.

What I'm seeing is good coaching of the important facets, the facets that good teams do well. What I'm also seeing is some really substandard attacking and creative players.

On that basis I am very much behind what Postecoglu is trying to coach. I certainly can't think of a coach who could come in and do the fundamentals better, improve shit cunts like Johnson, Son, Werner, Odobert, Kulusevski etc into deadly world beating forwards.

Just look at the attacking/creative options of teams like Liverpool and Chelsea. I'm pretty sure if we had their options, we'd be doing a fuck of a lot better right now, because we are doing the all the other stuff as well or better than them.

I actually agree with you here, I think we have looked a better team than the first six months of the year. However it is all undone by having an awful attacking unit. Son looks like an imitation of himself, he’s not even getting in his favourite shooting positions, the right wing is a shit show and we don’t know how Solanke will fair. We fucked the summer window so badly and it will ultimately cost the manager his job. It happens every summer, the managers just aren’t given the players they need.

He only got the job because he’s mates with Munn and moves in the same agent circles as our players. It’s why when he goes I’m expecting the whole back room nonsense to change again too.

Forwards don’t just "click" ffs. Don’t know what sort of copium this is or just ignorance. Football is not some arbitrary sport where good things happen out of the blue.

Our forwards need to create and attack space in order to create good chances, which we fucking don’t right now. Then we can consider if their decision making is truly shit and it’s the players quality that is hurting us.

Furthermore, if our tactics rely on winning 1v1s to create good chances, then it’s fucking shit because we don’t have that type of wingers (frankly we never did).

Doubt very much that we will whack many teams 3 or 4 , unless they are wanky teams like Everton.
I don't think we are as dominant as you suggest, in most cases teams are letting us have the ball because, we create very little to hurt teams.
But I think, ange will stay in charge unless there is a full club meltdown, and they are sitting in bottom three.
Club will finish midtable, and out of all cups early which is the Tottenham way, think the team needs a couple of clean sheets for confidence, although hard to see when that will happen.

That is the point - our press has to fall bit deeper. It would not be a problem but a solution to our current worries. Johnson (as most commonly started player losing place in my formation) is average if not poor in pressing, so change of personell will improve the press just not always as high.

And I do not follow "giving up the middle" part - it is literally sacrificing unsuited winger for extra defender. It does not change middle of the field dynamics almost at all.

He’s fucking correct here. Their corner came from one of ours. No top team should be having a corner at one end then having to defend one themselves 30 seconds later. The mistake was allowing the best set piece attacking team in the league the corner in the first place.

I’m still really pissed off about the NLD, I’m sure everyone is. But we all know what happens next when the crowd gets restless with the manager, who is only working with what he’s been given.
