Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He’s not really like Son or Johnson at all.

He’s skilled enough to play all 3 forward positions. He can go by people 1v1, he 1000% helps us keep possession in the final 3rd and stops us giving up transitions the other way. He also gives us reliable cover for Solanke when Richy isn’t fit.

I’ll be honest, he’s a level above any other player I can see us getting in January and probably even the summer.
He's in the Son/Johnson mould in that he's a shoot/score first 'wide' player. Still would like the signing as he could be an effective Mbuemo type player for us.

Looking forward to some of the fresh clown takes in here. We’d have spent over 100m on Zirkzee and Gift Orban if some of you were in charge. And you’ll be the first to throw your toys out the pram if we don’t spend 9 figures in January.

Permanent transfer signings since we appointed Ange (i.e. permanent transfers since 1st July 2023):
  • Solanke £65m
  • Johnson £47m
  • Gray £40m
  • Van de Ven £42m
  • Maddison £40m
  • *Porro £35m
  • Odobert £25m
  • *Kulusevski £25m
  • Dragusin £21m
  • Vicario £17m
  • Kinsky £12.5m
  • Veliz £12m
  • Vuškovic £12m
  • Bergvall £8m
  • Yang £2m
  • Phillips £2m
---------------------------
TOTAL = £405.5m

* I am well aware both Porro (6 months) and Kulusevski (18 months) were on loan to us prior to making their transfers permanent on 1st July 2023, but they still count as signings in this period as that is when the contracts were signed, player registration was transferred to us, and the permanent fee payments and player amortisation commenced.

Of all those signings, I would say that only Johnson, Dragusin and Veliz are questionable (although it should be noted that Johnson is our top scorer in a high scoring team). Jury still out on Odobert (although I personally am a fan). Add permanent signings from the year before (Bentancur, Romero, Sarr, Udogie, Bissouma, Spence etc.) and I think it shows the club has invested significantly to rebuild the squad since the new stadium was fully operational after the Covid pandemic (following years of neglect it has to be said!).

If we keep progressing like this, adding a couple of first team upgrades and a couple of investments for the future each summer we will have an incredible squad for years to come. We're finally doing things properly (for the first time), with a clear strategy, specialist recruitment and scouting teams set up, and a clear plan on how to build the squad with the right profile of player. Players like Vuskovic, Bergvall and Gray will count as club trained when they hit 21. Next season both Gray and Bergvall will be bigger contributors to our first team, Vuskovic will be with us, to add to 2 or 3 key signings in the summer. I honestly feel the future is very bright, and the approach will be worth the short term pain we are experiencing now.

We know that in the future we will be strong when you see the likes of Gray,Bergvall,Vuskovic and Odobert. Kinski and Yang are unknown to a certain extent. Mickey is a young man still and also Mikey Moore. What we need is to add better starters to our squad that make the transition easier for these young players. It’s the only way we move forward because planning for the future is great but the future will come quicker with better players just now.

We all know that costs money in big wages and we are not that club. If the club continue to go this way these young players won’t reach their peaks with us because they’ll move on because of the average players around them.

If the club does not change their ways we will always be a bit of a joke club because that’s what we are just now.

When we challenged for the league and got to a champions league final we were so close to turning into the big guns. We have regressed so much because of how are run.

My glass is generally half full and I honestly think patience is required at this point in time. I will judge Ange at the end of 2025 calendar year. I believe that Ange plays the party line because he has assurances he'll get the players he needs. I like the attacking football (I'll like it more with better wingers and another CF), I like Ange's general morals and approach to football. And despite our all out attacking, mad pressing football, and believe that we'll have one of the best defences in terms of goals conceded when we have more depth in defense and wingers who can hold the ball up better than Werner, Son and Johnson

There has definitely been progress in terms of reducing the average age of the squad and shipping out pure deadwood.

The next step is to replace Ange with a serious manager while retaining an attacking, possession-based approach and switching emphasis from youth signings to the 21-26 age bracket (of a higher calibre).

We also need to be more ruthless in terms of outgoings of middling players. No point hanging on to the likes of Dragusin, Johnson, Bissouma and Bentancur (+ Son and Davies) for another 3+ years if they are not taking us anywhere. Sign immediate upgrades FIRST and get those out the door SECOND. This sell to buy line they peddle doesn't wash anymore.

That's what we will need if we are to do anything of note in the next 2-3 years.

Do I think ENIC have an interest in doing any of that? No.

Vicario, Romero, Davies, VdV, Porro, Bentancur, Maddison, Kulusevski, Solanke, Son - these players are all ready now. I agree we need a couple more leaders / experienced players, which is why I would be annoyed if we signed another CB prospect this window rather than a gnarly experienced CB (even if on loan).

The positions we need to strengthen this window are:
  • GK (done)
  • LB/LCB cover/competition
  • CF (depends on how confident the club are on Richy's fitness but we should upgrade him in the summer either way).

In the summer we need to upgrade:
  • RCB cover (upgrade Dragusin)
  • DCM (upgrade Bissouma)
  • WF (a real superstar RWF is needed IMO, with Son, Odobert and Moore all being best on the left)

I also think the spine of our team is looking really good in terms of personnel.

Vicario
Romero/VdV
DCM (Gray)
Bentancur
Kulusevski (Maddison)
Solanke

If we signed a monster DCM who could be a nasty captain I'd love it!

Ange doesn’t request tricky wingers. He wants fast ones who stay wide and who can ping a low cross between the pen spot and the six yard line.

Unless he’s changing what he’s done for the last few seasons.

Who was that fella he had on the left wing at Celtic, he left them to go to Saudi ......curly hair, moustache, Portuguese iirc......that lad had a few tricks to go past players, not fast either

A sudden chill went down Deuterz Deuterz spine. As if somewhere someone on a forum has said something specifically designed to enrage him...
