The "top 4 is a trophy" stuff is utterly nonsense. It's a simplified black/white view of things.

In any endeavor, there's goals and there's acceptable and unacceptable performance.

For the past decade plus, any time we've finished 5th or lower in the league the manager has been sacked during or after the season. That's real concrete evidence that the minimum acceptable performance for a manager of Tottenham Hotspur is to finish 5th.

The goal, without a doubt is to win a trophy.

Finishing 4th is a huge financial benefit, thus, not winning a trophy but finishing 4th is seen as a relatively successful campaign all things considered. Manager probably gets a bonus.

Finishing 5th still has some financial benefit, but we've lost out on the CL boon. Manager probably doesn't get a bonus, but gets to try against next season.

Finishing below 5th is financially perilous. Manager simply can't be allowed to come back and fuck up again.

That doesn't mean "Top 4" is a trophy, but it is a milestone achievement.

Our profitability goal in my office is 20%. That's hard to hit. But it's the goal. Anywhere between 10-20%, I get a bonus. Below 10%, I'm going to get a talking to. Below 5%, I'm going to get sacked.

Going back to where we started, Ange finished 5th - almost exclusively because of his thunderous start - and got to come back. But his performance for 14 months has been unacceptable and he has us careening towards financial calamity.
Why would we have any expectation to be require CL football when we sold our greatest ever goalscorer in his prime and now have around the 6th highest wagebill in the league? Things have changed. This squad is callow and needs to be worked on long-term.

Yes, PSR might get tighter but I don’t have any worries about our financial security under Levy. It’s the one thing he can be counted on for.

We played similarly vs City
I dont think those games can be compared like that. We had result quickly both at Etihad and in Carabao, so City was all over us and we can't do anything than sit deep. Also Vicario had couple world class saves at Etihad plus City was very wastefull in front of goal.

Today, except additional time, for me there was not that much generated by Liverpool. Would say we were more conservative, but definitely not dominated by Pool - very mature performance where Kinsky didnt have much to do except couple last minutes.

Despite being wastefull in final 3rd and losing many balls there - i prefer this version against top opposition much more than when we were battered 3:6.

Kudos to team, kudos to Ange. Really need to be better against lesser opponents though. That's our main problem this season. Plus avoid both Son/Johnson combination on the wings at all cost (which was the case before lolo injury).

Beat Liverpool at their strongest with the worst injury ravaged squad we've had in recent times , a few dead on their feet

Nice tactical shape, no inverting from porro or Spence, a solid double pivot protecting the backline

LOL
Good energy Ange fans. As expected, flooding the board after another poorly-managed game saved by a few bright individual moments.

One thing though ... Keep that energy after the second leg please. Don't hide or go sit in a dark corner. Come here and gloat as you are doing now.

Yep. They’re hilarious. Like locusts.

This is just another false dawn which keeps him in a job longer. We don’t go to Anfield and protect this. We don’t use this to get a result in the league in a few days.

One win in how many? And you’d think he had achieved something miraculous. They’re honestly pathetic. Did the same cringe shit every time he’s picked up a random win this season. You’d think they’d wait for a couple of results in a row.

Much better shape today and when you consider Bentancur went off early, the reshuffle worked. Less insane fullback positioning. more of this please Ange

Dont think anyone is suggesting the 2nd leg wont be a tough night for us, but we just kept a clean sheet with an injury ravaged team against a seriously strong outfit and were good value for it.

Plus we actually played with a keeper tonight.

You sound happy your team won a huge match mate.

On here crying about Ange fans after a big win. The absolute state of some of you lol.

Can tell you were at home punching your pillow that we actually won tonight. Seriously you realise how sad that post is right?

Fair play Ange, that was a much more disciplined set up and performance than of late, even with the early loss of Bentancur. For a start I didn't notice the full backs high up as much as normal.

Still lots to work on but keep it up and he'll win a lot of us back.

Why in the fuck hasn't he played Spence until we had a crisis? Why has Gray been sitting on the bench the entire season, when Biss has had stinker after stinker? Why the fuck aren't we using Solanke as a hold-up striker, when he excels at it? I'm so fucking frustrated with him, because I've been Ange in, but he makes some mind-boggling decisions sometimes...

Imagine being this upset after beating Liverpool

Whatever mate. You called this one wrong. You're human after all.
