As I said, dropping to a deeper defensive line, recycling slow lateral passes in non-threatening areas to get them to step up and applying minimal counter-pressing and feigning pressure are all subtle ways to coax a possession-shy team into stepping up. There’s more than one way to skin a cat mate; even against sides that would rather not have the ball.
