Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Is there any comfort to be had seeing KWP do well at Palace? Or Edwards in Portugal? Or Parrott in Holland?

IF you want to include them as successful academy players for the purpose of this discussion then our academy and first teams have still failed as they weren't able to integrate into our first team.Which is the point of our academy.

If the follow up argument to that is they weren't good enough for us then I wouldn't include them anyway. It's nice that some of them make us an FFP profit when we sell them, but that's about it.

The point of our academy isn't purely only to produce players for the first team, that scenario is unrealistic, there's not one Premier League team who can boast this either...your academy is there to serve the club profit as well and we've made good money from our academy products over the years.

The point is though in your original post you mentioned Woolwich, Liverpool and Utd who had academy successes - they've all had one recent 'success' like us and ours was Kane so I don't subscribe to the fact that our academy has failed in that respect. The only clubs who have outstanding academies where they've recently constantly profited from players being promoted to first team football or made very good profit from are Chelsea and Man City.

Happy Fun GIF

Who is your preference?
I honestly don’t know what we do at this point. We’ve left it so late at this stage that clubs are going to tell us to get fucked. The fact we are still only making enquiries for the likes of Brobbey tells you all you need to know - they haven’t a bulls notion what they are doing.

We should have had deals lined up from the start of January. The club knew the situation but as usual, hope that this club will ever have a plan or appear to know what they’re doing, is ultimately futile.

One thing I do know though, is Marcus Rashford is certainly not the answer. We don’t need another past it chump, who would likely arrive here thinking he’s far too good for us and be a bag of piss.

And also, LW is arguably the last position in terms of priority that we need to strengthen. (Not to say we don’t need to strengthen it, but it’s down the list)
Give Mikey Moore the minutes in the position, not Marcus fucking Rashford.

Fair enough.

I guess I just hate seeing theirs being now while we're getting nothing and I have zero faith in how Levy runs this club that we'll find someone soon. Or that the manager(s) will include them.

November 2019 is just over 5 years ago. We sacked Pochettino that month and he was the first of 5 sacked between then and now. So I can't see a manager - Ange or his replacement(s) - trusting in our youth to integrate them when we have an owner leaving us a little short during transfer windows but also is trigger happy with managers.

He will never rock the boat.

He’ll never get another gig at this level, so will ride the millions for as long as possible.
It feels like he's started going from "everything is fine"
To "we may need some help"
To "we're fucked if we don't get anyone"
Probably lose another 1 or 2 players tomorrow and he'll rip the floorboards he stares at up and smash it around the interviewers chops

I don't know about that. Being the public face of the club at press conferences where he's continually being asked to justify things that he doesn't agree with, like not bothering to strengthen the squad and being publicly hung out to dry he might crack at some point.

Maybe after he's been sacked though but it'll happen.

There isn't, but the academy serves a twofold purpose. Those not deemed good enough for progression with us can be sold for a profit. Those that are good enough progress to the first team. If they then don't kick on, they can be sold for a profit.
IF you want to include them as successful academy players for the purpose of this discussion then our academy and first teams have still failed as they weren't able to integrate into our first team.Which is the point of our academy.
It's not the sole purpose though. Very few clubs get a steady progression of academy players into their first team ranks, and of those that do, fewer still remain. Chelsea have been put up as one of the best academies around, yet who do they have playing regularly for them? Reece James (when he's not crocked)? Who else? You could include whassisname that they sold to Atletico, but that's just 2, and their academy has been light years ahead of ours for over a decade.
Woolwich have kept Saka and essentially sold the rest.
City have Foden, but sold Palmer and Sancho. Oscar Bobb is a goodun, and potentially McAtee. Rico Lewis maybe.
Liverpool are probably the standout, but even they only really have 3 or 4 in Elliott, TAA, Jones and, maybe, Bradley?
If the follow up argument to that is they weren't good enough for us then I wouldn't include them anyway. It's nice that some of them make us an FFP profit when we sell them, but that's about it.
As I wrote above, there are academies, effectively of the teams I've mentioned above, that have been well in advance of ours, yet their first team additions are relatively small. The last club to integrate a glut of academy products was Utd, more than 2 decades ago. Now they have Mainoo and...?

It looks as though we now have Moore who will be a first team regular, with potential in players like Olusesi, Dorrington, Donley, Hall, Lankshear, Devine, Vuskovic. You could also include Sarr in that (as he'll effectively be club trained). Some may make the first team, but if we get just 2-3 that reach the level we need, and sell on the rest, then the academy will have done its job.

Might not be injured, probably was told to start looking for somewhere else.

Possibly means we’ve got one close to coming in if we’re allowing one out?

I really hope so, but judging from their recent actions it's far more likely they just want to cut 165k/week from the wage bill. We'll only have 4 players on 100k/w or more if he goes. It is unbelievable how low our wages to revenue is, I'm glad it's being mentioned in the media now.

Yeah definitely. They should be buying for the club, not for this particular manager. Good players are still good players. We’ve enough average ones to get rid of in due course.

Well the good news is the club isn’t backing this manager specifically anyways.

Touch line wingers. Goal scoring 10/8s. Inverted fullbacks were all pivotal to Ange’s system.

In 4 windows to support Ange we got him
-James Maddison
- Timo Werner
- Wilson Odobert

Academies in other leagues do fantastically well. Barca and the Basque clubs come to mind immediately.

Yeah and also Sporting Lisbon, Dortmund, Ajax, Rennes to name but a few, thing is though those clubs can afford to nurture talent because the competition in their leagues aren't as fierce in the Prem and these clubs now have made it their business operation of investing in youth in order to make profit on them to sell them.

I reckon if Barca set themselves up this way and sell for pure profit they'd be so financially healthier than they are now, imagine them selling Yamal and Pedri to oil clubs for example, they'd easily fetch around £200m for them...they won't do that though because they still like to perceive themselves as a giant but in reality they're poor as fuck.

I’ll say Luis Suarez before someone else does.

Even though I’m very aware he’s the outlier.

I’m just saying that nobody on here knows if this guy is any good or not. Chances are he isn’t if Ajax are looking to sell him. But give him a chance and he may surprise us. If he joins.

I do also reserve a chuckle for the “just fucking sign someone you bald cunt” posts that are now superseded by “not him though!”

Every single window. 😂
Brobbey was very good last year - and the one before that...just getting a lot less gametime this season so naturally his numbers are down. Still scoring and assisting in Europe.

Been through the Ajax Academy...they know a thing or two about producing great talent. The lad is just 22yo, so plenty time to develop.

But yeah, would be a very underwhelming signing. So typical Spurs, though.

I don't believe ANY rumours by any *Credited Source* until a deal is actually announced because 99% of these people know about the Transfer Deals than we do & spout utter bollocks for clicks and views as it's the same old crap...

"INSERT CLUBS HERE is interested in INSERT PLAYER HERE but nothing has been finalised & you never know how these things go"

Till then I'm not really going to waste my time reading any drivel these 'Journalists' or 'Content Creators' say but I can only say I want Timo Werner out he's just :ange-facepalm:

The 31st of January, 3 years ago we signed 2 players well worth a place in our squad. 'He's the reason' and 'gimme gimme gimme' were great additions but alas, the guy that signed those two is out until October
