Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm sure no non league player turns down the chance of a lifetime because they support a rival though. Surely.

My bad we couldn't agree terms....

btw

"The high-profile transfer setbacks involving Luis Diaz and Adama Traore have meant Tottenham go into the final days of the transfer window without the squad reinforcements that manager Antonio Conte has demanded."

That was when we did the deals for Kulusevski and Bentacur IIRC?

You’d turn down a job that was triple your salary for 4 years guaranteed? Because it was a mess at the company?

Especially knowing that it wouldn’t really harm your reputation if it didn’t work out?

Give me a break. Reality is right there if you just face it.
Is that really what we want though, someone motivated by the money, and not really bothered if it doesn't work out because they'll get another gig afterwards?
There's no doubting that Levy would love that kind of manager though, someone that would accept mediocrity as long as they get their pay check each month.

Lange is obviously not being given the required funds to buy players. I bet he’s got a list as long as his arm and we are refusing to match fees and wages.
Being a Sporting Director/ Director of football at Tottenham Hotspur must be one of the most excruciatingly frustrating jobs in football.

Lange will just be tossed onto the ever growing pile of Sporting Directors that have failed at Spurs.

Signing young players and using data isn't a strategy, its what almost all modern clubs do. Signing a bunch of teenagers and leaving your squad massively weak in numerous areas, likely alienating and actually damaging the health of numerous senior players, is definitely not a strategy.

The club is in a massive crisis and you're sat here going "Ooo good signs lads, we've signed up the local nursery, we'll be world conquering in approximately 15 years!". Shilling on levels that has never been seen before.
You wouldn’t understand mate.

Our French chum has leadership experience and a sense of perspective that only a balcony can provide.

That's the point isn't it? :D

We are probably making different arguements but here is my point:

We could get any manager or player we want if we offer the right money and we can afford it just as much as UTD can.

UTD are now headed in our direction in terms of what they are willing to spend and as a result are no longer the deam job, financial powerhouse they were. they have been fully eclipsed and will be scrapping it out with us for 8-4th in their best seasons.

Good luck finding one who isn't.

Sure there is the spin after about loving the club and wanting to prove it against the challenge...

But money is the main motivation for every single player or coach who comes to the PL.

You think high flying Bournemouth or Brighton or even Villa would be able to attract that calibre of manager?
I actually don't think these clubs would consider Conte or Mourinho. They play a very different style of football. The thing with Bournemouth, Villa and Brighton is that in recent years they have been very well managed by the owners, they've got in managers that clearly fit the ethos of the club, and player recruitment has been mostly good too.
Then there's Tottenham, who happily pay huge wages to big managers who don't fit the club mentality. The amount of money we've spent on sacking managers in the last 10 years must be mind boggling.

Money doesn't guarantee success, choosing the correct person for the job and backing that person will have a much higher chance of success.

Unfortunately Levy doesn't see it that way.

Of course there's always a financial element, but they need to want the club and the challenge too.
One thing I did like from Ange was his mentality that players shouldn't come to the club motivated by money. Unfortunately finding the right player is only half the battle, getting Levy to pay up is the other half.

We can't agree terms with non-league clubs, possible loan signings or anything of note.

We are a size of significant size and income and in a precarious state.

We say we have ambition.

We are in fact and painful to say an absolute sh!t show Is the reality.

I get your point I don't agree - let's just agree to disagree shall we!

You’re talking like we have prime Kane & Son doing the business in the final 3rd.

We are a world away from that and that’s being kind.

We’re one of the richest clubs in the world playing Moneyball like the Brightons and Bournemouths do when we should be a Galaticos Lite.

We are the 7th richest club in football. We should have the 7th best squad in football at a minimum that would translate to probably the 3rd best squad in the league. Then we can attract the top managers again.

No top manager wants to manage an average squad and work under a scrooge like Levy.
