Different generations too. 90s were gen X, who were neglected by their parents. Now it’s Gen Z, digital natives and cuddlier

Gen Xers got used to corporal punishment at a young age as well. We embraced pain.

“Everyone takes a beating sometime” from our teachers/father/mental priest was our motto.

And Pain is temporary. I learnt that a very young age!!

Also.

Don’t get caught!!!

Saying all that you get the impression Sonny’s dad is slightly mental.
I had one coach you used to make us take off our shoe if we kicked the ball with our strong foot in training to make you use your weaker one.
Strikes me as something sonny’s dad would do to him as a child.

Not sure you could do that anymore.

I broke my arm at school and got given a lollipop!!
I remember climbing the school roof on a Friday (about 3 stories - I was 14/15) for a dare in the rain but I slipped on the roof running across it doing an R9 goal celebration, I fell into some mud luckily missing concrete. Being winded AF I was like right I gotta get up otherwise I'm gonna get the piss taken out of me for the rest of the year went to my last class but after going home not breathing well had to go AE and had three fractured ribs.

On the Monday went in with with some bandages & friends thinking I was a baddass (I was a knobend) - we were made of stronger stuff then.

wow! Did it work?

Does my head in that professionals earning upwards of 200k a week actually have a "weak" foot.

Ginola always stood out for me; I could never be sure which was his preferred foot. Like if he took a pen? He could probably take corners left and right footed.

Hoddle, Kane, Son - stand out as being VERY strong on their wrong foot but you always knew that they were all right footed. And they all took pens with Right obv.

Anyone remember the Ginola and Anderton cup replay v Leeds? It could have been the greatest hat trick of all time

My parents used to make me go out and find the stick I’d be hit with. I’d be sent back out if it wasn’t adequate. Still, made me the man I am today: cynical and hateful of the world.
