It doesn't have to be a case of him seeing through this "project" and refusing to be a part of it. Footballers are not that deep to begin with, and 19 yr olds in particular are not that prescient about how their careers will look like in a decade or so. They mostly make it up as they go along, that's why so many of them spend their prime years rotting on the benches of top teams.

Looks like he's just holding out for a bigger club regardless of what kind of career prospects he'd be offered. Nothing more.
Yes 19 year olds are largely morons but they get advice from their management whose jobs it is to be aware of industry trends and trappings

Kompany had literally just joined.....

Kane is the best striker in the world. Daffy Duck could have just become manager and Tel wasn't getting minutes ahead of him. Let's be serious.

We tried to buy him Summer 2023.

No, we tried to make-weight with potential talent as we'd just sold the best striker in the world.

BM declined.

He became potentially available Jan 2025

We tried again.

Player said no.

That's it.

..................You think we'd bid 50m quid (!!!) on a 19 year old despite not being that fussed about him????

Who is the Levy you think is running this club? :porrohands:

I think we're desperate - and rightly so.

We wouldn't be so desperate if we'd just spent that 50 million last summer (whether on Tel or any high quality forward) when we should have rather than leaving the squad light. Yes, it's hindsight but it was foreseeable hindsight.

If we really think Tel is worth 50 million we should have gone in Summer and tested it. That we didn't indicates to me that a) we're not convinced by him and b) that we are now desperate.

There is nothing in Tel's on field history to suggest he's worth 50 million - beyond the fact that we're desperate and that at 19 he holds considerable re-sale value. I'm not having a pop at the club for trying now but I just think it's yet more evidence that the squad building last year left the NOW woefully at risk.

Well, it's true. A club with the resources like THFC should be better at identifying players. Asking a fellow supporter who they would sign is a category error.

Not really

If there was obvious players that stand out to you from lesser teams that you know were available you'd be able to make me them.

You don't need to have a deep scouting network of millions of players mate, you practically watch them week in week out and you have YouTube for that sort of thing.

I think the fact that you can't name anyone has probably answered you own question.

Do you agree that Levy has cooked in this window ?

If I could have Tomori or Tel, to be honest I think I'd rather Tomori. BUT the thing with Tomori is as much as we need him, we needed him so much more at the beginning of the month. Levy's penny pinching has exploded our January and if Romero isn't fit for Liverpool, it would be hard to chuck him straight in for such a huge game.

You should talk to the club about that. Might save some money on scouts, analysts and directors.

All he had to was back poch.
I can’t help but think this.
Too busy building the stadium and neglected the team at exactly the wrong time when we were attractive and on an upward curve.
That sort of lightning in a bottle doesn’t come around too often with our “financial restraints”.
The spark went, we signed nobody.
Our CL run disguised a lot of problems with form.
And we have regressed since those heady days.

Why would anyone want to sign for us?

1. Levy is notorious for paying shit wages.
2. We're 15th and more likely to get relegated than get into Europe next season.
3. Ange is a fucking muppet who doesn't give a shit about his players, he runs them until they drop.
4. We're shit, and likely to lose most games.

The new “Data led approach” means sign kids and players from backwater leagues with huge upside.

This is the new Tottenham.

We’re not going to pull known talent in the marketplace.
