Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Can't see it happening. He'll have Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Newcastle and City all asking for him in the Summer. Moving to spurs now would have been a gamble for him. No guarantee he'd even accept our offer
Yep, he'll have clubs in a much better position than us in for him this summer. Part of me thinks that's why they're trying now, because they know the summer situation.

Can anyone explain to me something - there were still Disasi rumors up today and in BBC Transfer Deadline day opinion section one Spurs fan mentioned that we would need another CB. But I mean... do we really? Or in which sense do we need one?

Right now in our books we have - VDV, Romero, Dragusin, Danso, Davies and in all honesty Gray has done REALLY well as an option there. This is 5 designated CBs and one further option there.
In summer we have Vuskovic joining too. So that is 6 designated CBs. How much do we need? Plus there are depth options in Phillips (doing well in Championship) and Dorrington off to loan in Scotland.

Even if we sell Romero (which I hope and expect we do), I'd first give Danso a runout and see how he does. Having 5+1 seems pretty adequate to me. Even fullback position seems more pressing, as we have just Udogie, Porro and Spence - so 3 players to 2 places. Not to mention wingers department where we could use literally someone to take up starting spot. Or proper DM like Emerson in Atalanta?

After signing CB in prime age I feel that another CB is behind positions like fullback, winger, DM or even 2nd striker (as Richie injury record is worrying to say the least).

£70m is serious money, but if we were seriously after him then that bid would have gone in 1st January.

I can't see Palace selling him now, and if he has a choice of clubs to go to in the summer with 12 months left on his deal, then I can't see Spurs being top of that list. They're trying to get ahead of that I guess.

That's incorrect.

Had we gone in early and even if the bid had been accepted, one or two other clubs would have jumped in.

It's a statement of interest maybe, but one we won't win.

We can't afford a bidding war and don't quite have the pulling power when a player like Guehi will have and know he has options.

Hopefully guehi kicks off and forces palaces hand

Would be a season changing signing
Can't see it myself, think the player probably agreed with the owners/manager that he wouldn't be renewing and probably agreed what would be a sensible enough fee to sell him once he enters his final year, which is this summer. He will have his pick of clubs if the price comes down to £50m or so as that represents fantastic value for money.

From Trix on SC

I was just talking in general really, but the club are certainly hoping to bring more in. If pushed I'd say it'll be 2, with the hope of 3, but as it's us more likely just 1.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

So basically, we're not signing anyone else. Y'all can go do other things. :nunothumb:

Pressure will be on Romero to have a good finish to the season to secure his move. No guarantee a team like Real Madrid will want him right now. It changes fast and plenty other defenders are ahead of him now.

Romero is a world cup winner and probably the next Argentina captain. He walks into Real next season, even if plenty in here don't want to admit it. Rudiger and Alaba both over 30 and Militao isn't as great as he was.

The likelihood is that the two clubs are already in talks.
