I'd already conceded your view had absolute merit and conceded my view was simply empathetic/romantic in essence...

Having said that, Postecoglou's got us further in more Cup competitions with far inferior players available than Conte or Mourinho did during their tenure. Both of whom are far more accomplished managers.

Hence why I agree with Hampshire Spur Hampshire Spur that Ange should be given the Cups (EL really because he might actually have something remotely resembling a first 11 by then) while also acknowledging that people like yourself have every right to think otherwise.

I agree he's very lucky to still be in a job.

Eh? Mourinho got us to a league cup final. Post has got us to a semi final. His cup results last season were abysmal. This season he got us through the easiest EL fixtures you’ll ever see and is probably going out the FA cup having won against Tamworth. His cup results overall are not impressive.

Not sure why Ange should be ‘given’ the cups because of a couple of decent league cup results amidst a diabolical season. Even if Villa pump us he should be given the Europa league to fuck up as well, because we beat teams with the budget of league one teams? Erm..

How can you point fingers at Ange considering our recent history with managers and how they succeed after us?

After how we sold our best ever, world class player in Kane?

After how we've actively recruited kids, whilst also being the tightest team in the league - BAR NONE - when it comes to spending / revenue brought in, in the league. (Money spent / wages / revenue gainez)

We've had multiple top class players during the recent years speak out about how the club is ran?

All we actually hear is that the players love playing for Ange... We've actually contested this year in all the cups - something spurs fans so deeply wanted before this season may I add!

Ange is absolutely 10000% exposing our owners / Overall management of our beloved club for what it truly is and you're turning on him?????

Now's ya chance. Back Ange to the tilt... Get the owners out... And let's get real about actually wanting to win and succeed rather than turning a profit at every given bloody point.
ENIC isn’t selling. Full stop.

I think the club leadership understands what a dire situation the squad is at. I suspect a lot of the players are playing injured.

We got rid of our entire medical dept in the summer, including people that had been at the club 20+ years. The new lot clearly haven't improved things and that has left Ange short.

This was always a 4 year plan. Once Kane left, there was no quick fix, it was tear it up, start again.

Year 1 - Get rid of the dross; bring in youth
Year 2 - Overhaul of medical and coaching. Get youth up to speed.
Year 3 - Get the young team all playing together.
Year 4 - Challenge the top teams.

By year 3, we should have hardly any players left from the old squad. Bissouma, Bentencaur, Madission, Richy, Reguillon need to be moved on this summer.
Where was this 4 year plan published?

I want Ange sacked, should have been done after Leicester.

But, Jose had an easy run to that final and we did need to beat City and United before having to go to Anfield in this run.

I’m not giving Ange a ton of credit for that, but Jose doesn’t deserve much either.

Bottom line we’ve sucked in cups for a long time.

SC Trix has had enough. :harrylol:

Every time I've peeped at their Ange thread after another loss there's someone who's finally been pushed over the edge after giving Ange the fairest of cracks at this.

It's a fun game.

My only entertainment associated with this club, in fact.

Watching people finally accept it's a lost cause and call it exactly what it is.

Jose was shit. The point was that Ange hasn’t done anything exceptional in cups. Even a coach who was terrible for us did something relatively similar.

We’ve had some decent results in the league cup (let’s be fair, United are almost as bad as us if not as bad and City are a shadow of last season) but overall Ange’s record in the cups isn’t that good.

We have the odd good result to give us hope that at last we are getting somewhere, then a result like tonight brings us bang down to earth.
I still want to be wrong about Ange, but the feeling is he's totally out of his depth in the PL. His remarks after the game were arrogant to say the least. It was like it was our fault because we wanted to defend a slender lead so we could get to the final. A competent manager should have been able to coach the team to defend better than that or stick to your guns, but at least go down fighting. Once they got their noses in front, we were toast.
However, as long as we don't go down, don't see bringing in someone else at this stage has much merit. Not sure I can trust the selection committee to get it right anyway. The job is a poison chalice at the moment (or a free hit).
Sorry a bit of a ramble, but it's nearly 3am and I've still got a couple of hours before I get to bed.

We desperately tried to win a trophy with Kane, Son in their prime. We threw Mourinho, Conte at it and failed miserably. We were then left with a squad that had Ndombelly, Lo Celso, Dier, Reguillon, Winks, Rodon, Skipp, Sanchez, Tanganga, Perisic, Lenglet, Danjuma, Sessegnon - who all needed to be replaced.

Did you really think any coach in the world could have come it and made us title / cup winners within 2 seasons? Using an entirely new squad, including players that had played less than 50 games in their short careers? Grey was playing in the championship and Bergvall was playing in front of 30 people in an amateur league.

By year 4, I'd expect Spurs to be challenging for 4th place at best, unless they can unearth the next Kane or Bale.

Mourinho lost Lloris, Kane, Son to injury and Eriksen left. Had to play with Dier, Aurier, Winks, Tanganga, Sanchez, Dele's brother........But sure, he's shit.

Kind of damned if you do damned if you don't, but it's my belief that if a manager abandons his philosophy he starts to lose the dressing room.

Doesn't mean you can't adapt to certain situations in the game, but I was honestly confused by that team selection tonight.

A sort of agricultural central midfield 3, no pace or craft on the wings and a plodder up front.

There had to be a way to get Kulu into that midfield (or Bergvall) and Tel up front with Mikey Moore on one of those wings.

Ange may be out of his depth but you can't blame him for this loss. Look at the team he put out, mostly kids , novices and 3rd string talent. Spurs fans have this things where they think a Spurs player puts a Spurs jersey they suddenly become this elite talent and demand to win every game.

The reality is that of the side that Ange fielded, only Kulusevski and Son are what you could consider elite Premier League talent. So you have two elite talents playing against 11 elite talents, and a further 7 or 8 elite talents on the bench. The difference in class is enormous and Spurs were never ever ever ever going to win this game with the players they had available. They were not even a chance. Obviously we all hoped for a miracle but from about the 5th minute it was obvious the difference in class was too enormous to sustain a 1 goal lead over 90 minutes at Anfield.

People need to get to grips with reality. Injuries have totally fucked Spurs right now, and until they get their elite Premier League talent back (VDV, Vicario, Romero, Maddison, Solanke) consistency, high ladder position and trophies is a bit too much for ask for.

I agree about his comments. It was almost like he was just saying “I told you so”.
