You're right, they raised the money to buy it and perversely make the club pay it back. No need to worry about hedging or mitigating risk because the club will pay.

And Rathcliffe is trying to get out of any "unnessecary" investments that he has now that he is at United. He apparently just stopped paying their sponsorship to the New Zealand rugby team. Like, not even cancel, just stopped paying it and now they are being sued for breach of contract.

I was at a company who had to process the original Bond so it could be traded in the market for which they used to cover the debt. From memory it was several tranches and the first tranche was the high interest debt so you couldn’t pay lower interest until the principle of the first tranche was done. Looked terrible at the time, the Bond prospectus had a picture of Wayne Rooney as the cover.
I do wonder why they haven’t refinanced it with new debt with a better structure. Just bleeding the club dry.
I am not joking, well it had 3 players, I forget the other 2 just Rooney as the main centre player. My colleague was a passionate United fan who knew the damage it would do and he was the one doing most of the work. He just wanted to burn it.
Just think about a bond for someone to buy Spurs for say £2bn of debt (which is probably the money equivalent now) on the club and you are the guy who has to do a load of work to make it happen which will then destroy your club.
