Was Chapman having a little dig at Lineker there saying the women were team players?
Yes, the show should be about the action and wish they'd spend less time chatting; most of it is banal and stating the bleedin' obvious to anyone who has an interest in the game. The most entertaining MOTD was the one where commentators went on strike.

Match of the Day should show fewer Premier League highlights and more analysis, says BBC chairman Samir Shah.

The BBC has a deal to show highlights of top-flight matches until the end of the 2028-29 season, with Match of the Day broadcast on Saturday evenings and MOTD2 on Sunday evenings.

Shah told the Sunday Times, external that many fans had watched Premier League goals and action before Match of the Day is broadcast.

Shah said the show "should not be built around highlights".

He added: "It should be built around analysis and examination of the match to give viewers a deeper insight."

Just read that on the BBC. Sounds like a ridiculous thing to be suggesting. Football fans want to watch football. Not people talking about it.

Do this and watch the viewing figures plummet I reckon.

He says people have already seen the goals, what we've actually already seen is endless commentary, analysis and opinion about the games - much more so than the actual football. What I want is the highlights show to show us more than just the goals, penalties and red cards that the 2 minute twitter/tiktok highlights give us. More football, not less.

Shows how out of touch these idiots are. The best MOTD show by far was when the pundits went on strike and we had “The Football Highlights”. Cost saving right there.

Is MOTD even relevant anymore???

I know CBS Golazo or whatever get's relatively good ratings but that's more of an entertainment first type of show & I know the BBC wants to go more into that kind of thing but honestly who even watches terrestrial TV who's under the age of 40?

Thing is there are more YouTube channels about football than there ever has been - it's long-form both from fans, pundits & ex-players, ex-managers & ex-refs so instead of having 5minute soundbites you get deeper insights into matches or better entertainment as they can use language that isn't dictated to by OFCOM or the BBC's political biases bullshit.

I don't see MOTD making it past the new season & it getting cancelled - the BBC are also scum & I don't pay their extortion fee.

Those were the days... save 1.5m tax payers money and improve the ratings. The BBC are so out of touch. I would get shot of TV license tomorrow and make them earn their revenue through sponsorship. Who cares if there is adverts.
