With a competent manager we should be in the top half, I agree. I think the squad is farther off than one transfer window from going higher even if we had a motivated board.

The issue is we lack elite quality. Our front line is at best mediocre. Even teams not considered top 4/6 like Newcastle have Isak and Gordon, Brentford have Mbuemo, West Ham can put out Bowen, Kudas and Paqueta as a front 3 like they did against Liverpool.

On paper the only really strong part of the team is the backline when fit, the rest is ok. We need an elite CM and an elite wide forward to replace Son before with a more competent manager we can start looking at the top 4 again but the club won’t pay the wages for that. So for me a really good manager I think will get us 6-7th next season.

The criticism of these 2 players has been a bit overblown.

Like him or not, Johnson has been involved in 25% of the goals we have scored. A goal or an assist every 120 minutes.

Same with Son. 28% goal participation with A goal or an assist every 111 minutes.

Son is joined 2nd in the Prem for goal assists; and is one of the hardest working forwards in the league, and top 5 for most touches per 90 for a forward.

But we’d still have to buy those players on £300k per week. A player making that much is worth over £100m probably? So where’s the £500m - £600m in fees coming from for these five replacements? We’d maybe get £100m from the sale of the five you mentioned, but that’ll just cover agent fees and signing bonuses for the new guys.
Very few transfer fees are more than 100M quid - particularly now with PSR starting to bite. There were NONE in the 24/25 - Just three the season before in 23/24 (Bellingham, Rice and Caceido).

Transfer fees for established players are pretty much what we paid for Johnson or Solanke. Solanke was the 5th most expensive transfer in 24/25 - Stupid! A 26/27 year old No.9 willing to settle for 90K per week in wages - Just Stupid! Solanke knows his level - Otherwise he would have demanded higher wages - Levy doesn't! No other Big 6 club was in for him.

So Levy spends enough on transfer fees - Problem is that he spends it stupidly on punts because he won’t pay top wages. Getting in 5 established players isn't realistic but 200M quid in transfer fees could get us 3 very good established players IF Levy would pay top wages. Although Levy is crying poverty, our FFP room is 201M quid.

As many here have pointed out, Levy's problem isn't just that he's cheap when it comes to wages - It's also that he overpays/is incompetent/stupid when it comes to transfers. It's a bad combination and one of the primary reasons that we are 15th in the league.

Anyway - a few examples of recent/potential transfer fees:

Osimhen apparently has a release clause of 65-68M quid (75/80M Euro) so pretty much same as Solanke.

Marmoush was 60M quid (70M Euro)

Kvaratskhelia was also 60M quid (70M Euro)

Brentford reportedly want 50M quid for Mbeumo - same as Johnson

The fact of the matter is, that our 'best' team is pretty decent

Vicario
Porro - Romero - VDV - Udogie
Bentencaur - Maddison
Johnson - Kulu - Son
Richarlison/Solanke

Of this lot, only Porro and Son have remained fit this season. Yet we expect the coach to compete across 4 competitions.

The issue comes with the rest of the squad provided. Either inexperienced or lack quality.

Tel, Odobert, Sarr, Kinsky, Grey, Spence, Bergvall, Dragusin - lack experience at top level and need to develop. Fine if you are surrounded by experienced players - but they aren't, they are thrown in together.
Werner, Reguillon, Bissouma, Davies - Not at the required level
Agree with a lot of that, but ….. Davies has been very good when he’s played and the perfect 4/5th choice CB. If we had more players with his experience and consistency we’d be a lot higher in the league.

I think with a new manager, and swapping out 2-3 players with better, more consistent / experienced ones, we’ll be top 4 challengers next season, especially with no Europe / midweek football.

Before Ange ball ruined our wingers we’d have chosen Son and Kulu over Gordon, Bowen, Kudos, Paqueta, Mbuemo etc. every day of the week.

Son isn’t the player he was Ange or no Ange and Kulusevski isn’t a winger, his future is as an AM. Club needs to upgrade the forward line.
I am not so sure. How many times has Son cut in and curled a shot at the far post? Ange discourages this but it is Son’s main MO. He’s playing with his back to goal out wide which does not suit him. He’s a 32 year old world class player who spends all his energy sprinting back to defend / cover massive gaps.

Daniel Levy, you are such a bellend that my brother has decided that he is going to follow Wrexham, and I quote, “The people in charge there actually want to get the team to succeed.”

Of Tottenham, he says, “Also, Tottenham are shite. My desire to support them is at an all time low - not because of the team, but because the people in charge have no desire to improve the team, but want to make their billion pound investment bigger.”

You massive helmet-cheese baldcunt.
My boy has pretty much lost interest in football thanks to the mess at Spurs . He used to get frustrated but he couldn’t really care less these days . Still at least he’s turned his interest to playing the guitar which pleases me 😊

I think Son needs to play in a system where he is a second striker, his pace has declined but he is a good finisher. 352 behind the front man or a Dele type role in a 4231.

Well, Son and Johnson still have better returns than most of those; and aside from Salah; and in line with the best performing wingers in the league.

Son 7 / 10
Johnson 11 / 5

Mbuemo 16 / 5
Paqueta 4 / 0
Gordan 6 / 6
Bowen 8 / 7
Kudus 3 / 2

Other wingers

Saka 11 / 6
Foden 7 / 2
Diaz 11 / 7
Gakpo 8 / 4

Aye, plus £100m transfers are rare. As are wages of plus £300k. My original point is it’s easy to point out we could be paying more on wages, but assuming we aren’t paying those to the present shower of fuckwits, we also have to spend hundreds of millions on new players. So it’s not as easy as “gooners spend more than us, let’s spend the same”.

As for the players you mentioned, all would probably improve us. Osimhen and Kvara certainly worth that circa £300k.

The first leaks suggesting they will find someone else and that the squad is good enough as is.

Cover for not spending in summer me thinks

New manager will simply be asked to win with the same schlubs. Turn water into wine and maybe we’ll spend a few tokens next summer.

The "feeling" should have at least been a tickle in Nov/Dec 2023
By last summer it should have been a feeling akin to a 10,000 volts.

They are weak liabilities and basic footballers ill suited to the role.

What Son did three years ago alongside the best striker in the world has no bearing on the likely impact of him playing left midfield Thursday. None whatsoever

I want us to finish 17th this season , I don’t want to gain another point . We won’t get relegated and it will always be remembered that Levy oversaw our worst ever finish in the premier league . The guy deserves all the flak he is going to get from now to the end of the season . I will never forgive him for allowing this season to drift when there was something at stake .

If THFC was Jesus Christ Superspurs, The TV Musical, Levy would be Pontius Pilate, played by Telly Savalas.

So when we lose out on merit points due to our league position are you going to be okay with us spending less money in the Summer on players all because you want us to finish the lowest position possible?
