This match did not matter apart from Liverpool supporters and disgruntled Woolwich supporters. 8 changes and several starters did not play. No one expected better. It is over and we move on and need some positivity back for Thursday which is a very winnable match and much more important.

Mate if you want to fool yourself in to thinking a competition Rangers (a championship level team) were a pen shootout away from winning is ‘prestigious’ to the top sides in Europe, you knock yourself out.

I don’t feel the need to delude myself or look back at the irrelevant 80’s before I was alive to judge the size of a competition.

Since CL teams did not get dropped in to it; the quality is weak. Which is great for Europe’s b tier as it gives them a chance to win something. But prestigious it isn’t.

I think you have to agree with your analysis. The CL teams dropping in will obsly strengthen the comp. Remember in the old day the uefa cup was full of teams who now qualify for CL. So it was harder to win. Now it’s like 3/4/5 and below teams who compete in it.

They’ll probably be on a bonus for a trophy. Maybe for CL qualification but not league place. Which is one reason winning EL and qualifying for the CL is clearly a priority once the PL had turned to shit.
