Probably but that's a failure of stadium management.
They were massively helped by Barca giving them £114m for Coutinho (still amazes me today). They then used all that money and added a bit more on top to pick up two excellent players in Allison & Van Dijk for key positions where they were weak.
The way we operate is very different. We got a massive figure for Bale and bought seven players with the proceeds. Quantity over quality.
With hindsight, the only comparable thing would have been us selling prime Dele, Kane or Son for £100m+ after the CL Final then reinvesting it in the same way as Pool - ie. take the fee, add some on top, buy two serious players to improve your first XI. Keep adjusting pay structure to accomodate these better players as you go. Thing is, this is not the ENIC way and it never will be, unfortunately. When we finally did get round to selling Kane (reluctantly) we havent spent the money well.
One thing that gets me is, “structure”.

I think you underestimate his worth as a business manager.
From a purely financial basis there are probably none better in the Premier League. What he has done from a commercial perspective is impressive.
However, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the achievements of the footballing side that we’re all interested in!
I keep on saying the same thing. It’s the reality I’m afraid.
Our team has just bent over been and humiliated once again. An almost weekly event now under these owners with their useless, pathetic manager.

When you’ve got fans of loads of other clubs saying they can’t believe we allowed it then you know it’s the wrong decision. They’ll take the piss but I bet most scum fans think it ridiculous too.
So you organised a party in a hall owned by a Gooner, would you accept you could not play whatever music you wanted which could include Spurs songs? I doubt anyone at Tottenham even knew the details of the music that is what they proposed. You really do come up with absurd reasons to hate Levy. Are not the main reasons like his income and failure to bring trophies enough?
Why does he need to work? He would be rich enough to live off his riches. However he was a season ticket holder before the purchase and goes to most games. That might be harder to give up as judging by the hatred among supporters, would he be safe in a normal seat?
By a lot of accounts he is a bit of a workaholic. Supposed to be more or less the first one in the training centre in the morning and the last one out.
So I think that the idea of him going stir crazy without work makes sense.
Someone else, (I think it was Bryan) said a couple of months back that for Levy the status of being in charge of Spurs is probably just as important as the money. He has made his name by being our chairman. He's a well connected head honcho in the Premier League and even got to serve on the ECA board for a bit.
Stuff like that is probably going to be extremely hard for him to let go of.
I see too many posts like this and it is incredibly sad. I empathise, I'm nowhere near as invested as I once was and I was obsessed too. I still love the club and always will but it's apathy I mostly feel now. Pound for pound in ticket price at least, Tottenham must be one of the worst if not the worst club to support and ENIC have been a catalyst for it.
Pay more than any other club's fans and in return you can have mid-table shite, regular beatings from rivals especially away, AWOL cup final displays, clueless managers who goad you when Spurs score, and the odd year where you get to make the numbers up in Europe. Where's the buzz?
There's no hope of winning anything (for the last time, we are NOT winning the Europa League even if we somehow win the SF), we don't sign exciting players anymore, we show no sign of being able to gain even the expected odd win at huge rivals (once in a generation if you are lucky). Most clubs have one of the above to some relative extent and if they don't they don't get charged literally thousands of pounds in return for just meandering in a division with no ambition whatsoever to improve that. Building a new stadium, a training ground and a poxy F1 collab does not offset this.
To those of you who go to every home and (especially) away game, you have my admiration and one day I really hope you still have front row seats for any success if this ENIC nightmare ever ends one way or another.

Similar. In the last few years gone from attending as much as i could, to seeing a few games a season to stop going completely 5 years ago. Now i can barely be arsed to watch us on the box. Was out yesterday, no interest in the match. Saw the score, a few venting posts on here and its forgotten. No lows when we lose, no real highs when we win, simply not that fussed. After 50 or so years it feels a bit odd. The buzz may come back but reconciled that it wont under these owners.

Very true! For me it overlaps with a general decline in how appealing PL football is to spend money on in person at least. Last time I went to Spurs (AZ game) I had to show a digital pass 4 times. Couldn't stand up. Was in a controlled "safe" environment in which they wanted my cash, but woe-betide anything out of line or what they wanted - which is compliance. Hi-viz and rules all round.
Here's the thing, modern PL football is primarily a safe tourist experience. Overlay that with the ENIC horrendous VFM and lack of ambition and it's a recipe for apathy.
I actually prefer the matchday experience at my Championship club (QPR), and my League 2 local club (AFC Wimbledon).

Without a significant injection of cash from owners Enic, Spurs are facing a tough summer of trading which is threatening to severely affect the club’s head coach – whether that is Ange Postecoglou or a new appointment.
Spurs are 16th in the table and equalled their record for 19 Premier League defeats in a single season with their latest loss against champions Liverpool at Anfield.
Champions League qualification through winning the Europa League would improve the situation, but Atletico Madrid target Cristian Romero or at least one other leading player may have to be sold to generate transfer funds.
Tottenham were one of the Premier League’s highest spenders last summer. And according to the last set of accounts that were first broken down by The Athletic, the club’s net transfer debt – money owed to Spurs minus money they are still to pay out – was £279.3 million.
That puts the club and those responsible for trying to improve the squad in an incredibly difficult position, particularly coupled with Tottenham’s wage structure which is one of the strictest in Europe.
A well-placed source confirmed to Telegraph Sport that the club will most likely have to sell to buy this summer, which will raise question marks over the futures of a host of players including Romero, Richarlison and Yves Bissouma.
Enic provided £122.1 million in owner funding since their 2001 takeover to June 2024, the equivalent of just £5.3 million per season. The majority of that came from a £97.5 million share issue in May 2022, which had initially been announced as being worth up to £150 million.
Since Enic’s £97.5 million share issue, a total of 13 English clubs received more owner funding, while the owners of Tottenham’s rivals Aston Villa have poured over £600 million into the club since their takeover in 2018.
Enic did invest £35 million into the club in January, but under-fire chairman Daniel Levymade it clear that Tottenham will not spend money they do not have, despite their ability to do so within PSR guidelines.
In the last set of accounts, Levy said: “We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club – indeed, our off-pitch revenues have significantly supplemented the lower football revenues this year, testament to our diversified income strategy.”
Levy added: “Since opening our new stadium in April 2019, we have invested over £700 million net in player acquisitions. Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means. I often read calls for us to spend more, given that we are ranked as the ninth-richest club in the world.
