Real Madrid are preparing to launch a shock summer move for a Tottenham defender this summer, a report has claimed.

The LaLiga giants, whose trophy-laden era under Carlo Ancelotti came to an end on Monday after the Italian was confirmed as the new manager of Brazil's national team, are gearing up for a crucial summer in the transfer market.

Former Los Blancos star Xabi Alonso is imminently expected to take over at the Bernabeu following an impressive stint at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga undefeated last campaign.

Haven’t they been the main team chasing him from the start? Atleti was the recent one

I don't think it's so much what he'll ask for, it's what he'll be offered and, particularly in Chelsea's case, the length of contract.

If the reports are true, my money is on Chelsea getting him, as he's only really got Jackson as serious competition for the 9 role.
I think he’ll be looking for a first team place more than anything. Does he get in ahead of Jackson? Jackson may play like a deckchair being thrown from a van, but he scores a few goals. And is he a big enough “name” for Chelsea?

I’m thinking that Watkins may be on his way out of Villa and Delap may end up there.

On the salary thing, surely he’s going to be top end £100k per week? Plenty of more experienced and better strikers on less than that surely?

He's one of the top striker prospects in English Football and has shown he can not only mix it physically, he has a fair amount of technical ability. I think he'll be a shoe in for them, big name or not.
Don't forget, Palmer wasn't exactly a "big name" and they went all in for him. Palmer also had less starts for City than Delap has had for Ipswich. Different circumstances I know, but it shows Chelsea are prepared to shell out for that type of talent.

I highly doubt that to be honest, I doubt they'd be able to compete with the offers that either Utd or Chelsea would put on the table. It all depends on Delap though.

Possibly, but he's already high quality at 22, so should only get better. He pretty much ticks every box for what the majority of clubs are looking for.

Problem premier league clubs have is there are too many clubs with alot of money and not enough players of sufficient quality to buy.

Bayern sign any standout bundesliga player Real Madrid and Barca get who they want. Followed by PSG. Then the premier league get the scraps.

Even Cities signings lately have been meh

Premier league clubs then face a scrap for players like Semenyo, Mateta and Mbeumo for 60m a pop, when you could have bought them for beans 2 or 3 years ago

"..like a deckchair being thrown from a van..". I like that.

It's Marseille that want Solomon and Cherki is at Lyon

Mmm I can see how that would be slightly problematic
