This final has zero credibility thanks to the likes of Wenger etc piping up, and I had to sit on my hands last night when my step-son(deluded Hammer) had the brass-neck to jump on the bandwagon with regard to our current league position, and the EL final, which is irrelevant, as we earned the right to be there last season. We have to win this competition to shed our image as a moronic mass media joke, and to stop all the trophy-less bullshit which doesn't even stand up under the slightest of scrutiny.

Have to believe in the footballing Gods finally shining on us Wednesday night.
 
I suspect we can probably all guess the team - Ange’s favourites to start irrespective of actual impact. It may well have to be Gray if Sarr is injured - perhaps push Benta furthest forward of the 3 in MF as he can at least pass 5 yards, and Ange’s MF just have to be able to clog up Utd as there’s never any build-up anyway.

If we can get the ball to (I guess Son who’s the only actually skilled FW) then maybe he can cross-in for a couple of Johnson tap-ins. Obviously, very easy to counter by putting two on Son.

The problem is that Ange’s ‘system’ makes so many players nothing more than passengers so however much they want to (Solanke, I’m looking at you) they’re unable to really influence the game without becoming prime Messi or Roy of the Rovers.
 
Just wanna stay in this thread through to 21st for the excitement of possibly winning a cup, a proper European cup. Can't believe some prefers undermining the winning, or not winning (even worse), a trophy by the club because of a hate for one individual at the other threads.

I have to say I think it’s far easier to win now the CL drop outs don’t enter. I think it will be dominated by English winners going forward

I must say I was very confident of winning this a week ago, but as usual, the club have shat on that confidence from a very great height. No Maddison is the worst thing that could have happened. The manager will go out there and revert to Ange ball mess and it will be brutal without him. I’d disregard our last few performances in the EL, we won’t approach the match like that, he will go with what has beaten them three times this season. Although it is brainless to do it with nobody in midfield capable of moving the ball forward at the correct time.

Yeah I think this will be the over riding plan. It’s why I’m bemused that despite his form, people are so quick to rule Son out of their teams for the final. It will be basic from Ange. He’s no tactical genius that’s going to set us up differently to win the final.

I think it has been mentioned before, but Madders may not be the best in games against English opponents where their midfield muscles away. Granted United are not Newcastle, but I think they will still try, and without Madders, we actually have more strength to fight shoulders to shoulders with Biss and Bentancur, even Sarr (pray he's alright) . I think Biss will be very important for us, in fact the most important player now. Beat the press, well-timed tackles and start the breakaway. All he can do very well on his best day.

We may be lacking the creativity from the absence of Madders, but I think we just need to be clinical, and must make our chances count. We should be fine.
 
So much negativity in this thread, we’ve literally beaten United with Danso & Davies at the back without solanke and they couldn’t score with a full strength team. We’ll be up for this and United are there for the taking. Come on you lilywhites
 
I still massively fancy us here, United look toothless to me and we will have our first choice defence.

I don’t think if you look at our assist stats, Son, Porro and BJ are all in our top 5. In addition to that I don’t think it comes down to creativity - I think it’s who makes the least errors and weirdly I would back us in that contest

This is the thing , I can understand us as fans being worried as it’s United and we remember the 90s but if you are a United player in that dressing room do you really want to be playing a team that has spanked you 3
Times already this season?
