Match We can be heroes part two Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester united UEFA Cup final. Bilbao 21st May

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’ll be rewatching it when I get home tonight at about 23:00. Hopefully with champagne.

Actually I won’t be rewatching it, I’ll be watching it, because the whole thing was a blur. And I was sober (driving after).
I just watched the last half hour plus all the after stuff. With a bottle of champagne of course. And a large scotch. That clearance from Mickey was even more insane than I remembered.

I cannot recall seeing an xG race chart that looks like this one, and certainly not in what was widely considered to be an even matchup on talent. Tottenham parked the bus, then a cement mixer, then poured all the cement and built a wall around the bus.

The result was that Manchester United did not have any space to operate in centrally in and around the box. Their couple central shots came from headers on set pieces. Amad Diallo was reasonably threatening off the right hand side, but United got very little off the left or from their central players.

Rasmus Hojlund was no kind of goal threat and looked like he got lost on his way to an athletics meet. It’s time to ring up Victor Osimhen’s agent and start begging.

United’s passing network is both horrifying from their perspective and an amazing illustration of how effective Tottenham’s defensive gameplan was. It’s like there’s a forcefield around the center of the park. Spurs forced United to go wide or backwards every single time, and United had no idea how to pull the Spurs midfield out of position.

I thought Leny Yoro had a really good game and was doing quite a bit to advance the ball, but the guys in front of him… eww. Stinky.

The map of the locations where Tottenham pressured the ball spells out the problem even more clearly. Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui offered a bit of threat down the right and forced Spurs’ defenders into blocks and tackles on a few occasions, but there was almost nothing happening on the other side, and literally nothing through the center.

Look at that space in the middle of the box where Spurs were forced to take zerodefensive actions. Forget shots, United couldn’t even get the ball on someone’s feet to force Tottenham to make a defensive play in the most dangerous areas.

Tottenham supporters will have bitten all their nails off during that second half, but their deep defending ended up being an effective strategy. Spurs didn’t just hang on for dear life, they defended superbly and prevented United from creating any high xG chances.

Whether or not he’s sacked in the next few weeks, Ange Postecoglou will be thrilled to have added this game to his resume. Not just the trophy, but the proof that he’s not an unadaptable ideologue. He can set up a defensive system and hold a 1-0 lead when he absolutely has to.

My ol' dad, bless him; he struggles these days........

At the final whistle he said: "Wonderful...... I'll look forward to the final.... When is it?"

I was like "FFS, Dad... You just watched it!" :ange-facepalm2:
My Dad's the same but we still both got to watch it with them we will always remember that.
And they know we won a game if they don't we will remind them.

Levys gotta cash in ...... let tha memorabilia super drive begin .....

TBF i did like the cup in the glass enclosure with the pic of the squad
I've already bought the following items as a direct result of us winning the Europa League (none of it has come from the Spurs Store):

Angeball: the Definitive Biography of Ange Postecoglou, Vince Rugari
When the Year Ends in One, Ewan Flynn
Spurs Soccerstarz minature figures for Vicario, Van de Ven, Romero, Kulusevski, Maddison, Richarlison and Son
Subbuteo teams for the 24/25 team, the 1921 FA Cup winning team, the 1949 FA Cup winning Wolves team (Wolves were our opponents in 1921 and it was the most period accurate team I could get) and PSG (I already have an Inter Milan)
An Athletic Bilbao themed Subbuteo set (I have an Atletico Madrid set to mark the 1963 CWC so it seemed only right to get a Bilbao set for the 2025 Europa League)

Also they finished 2nd FFS

The delusions of calling that a "crisis"

Self-entitled pricks

Fucking arrogant cunts acting like they lost last night; literally saying "we let Spurs win the EL".......... "Any other club would sack their manager [Arteta] for losing that final"........

Then swearing to each other they don't care about Spurs; yet calling this one of the worst times of their lives.

Absolute fuck-heads.

This is really difficult to read

Yeah, every other club would sack their manager if another team won a trophy that wasn't in their own control at all.

Makes total sense.

They're telling on themselves. If they acted nonchalant that'd be one thing.. But the fact that they're frothing at the mouth trying to shout from the rooftops that we haven't had a better season than them.... makes you think that they know good and damn well that we've had a better season than them.
