Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

I think this assumption is completely incorrect, sorry.

We practically had a first team at Anfield and got thumped.

The front 3 in particular is bang average. So is the midfield 3.

The only thing we have that is CL quality is the back line.
Why would you say my statement is incorrect and then say something that is totally incorrect? Odd behaviour.

None of Pedro Porro, Romero or VDV played in that game so we were missing 3 of our starting back 4. Archie Gray also played his first game in the 6 that day ahead of Bentancur who played no minutes.

We had nowhere near our best team out that day and had a Europa league semi final 4 days later.

If anything, that Liverpool game proves my point. When we went to make a few changes before a big European semi final, we were down to Ben Davies, Djed Spence and Archie Gray. All massive drop offs compared to our first 11. Now imagine it was Guehi, Ait Nouri and Wharton instead?

Gyokeres is understood to be available for £60million this summer, with Sporting happy to do business for less than his reported £83.6m release clause
We won't be doing that after spending big money on Solanke last Summer.

Imagine Delap is the only out and out 9 we might try sign if we can get him for 40m or under which is unlikely. Someone versatile like Cherki could be ideal to replace Richarlison and is a much more likely target

We play CL next season so will need way more depth in MF,

There is no chance we sign x2 experienced CMs. We will sign a Palinha OR a Cardoso but not both. Unless Biss or Bentancur leave.

Gray will get his chances and rotating into more settled sides instead of full on back up 11’s, he will thrive with a better team around him.

Has he ever started in MF with Romero and VDV?
If Ange stays I'm almost certain he won't get much of a chance. The way Ange has stated we made mistakes the last window, how we have to add experience, how he was extremley snappy with a reporter a few weeks ago asking about Gray not being given a chance in midfield stating "we need to win games".

I think we will indeed target experience and he will be further down the pecking order. Getting him a good premiership loan and allowing him to show his ability whilst bringing in an experienced Palinha in addition to another central midfielder would be the best bet imo. Palinha is nearly 30, he won't be around long enough to block Grays development (that only happens if Gray stays imo).

Sell Bentancur and loan out Gray whilst bringing in 2 central midfielders is what we should be doing imo. We have CL so we need to take advantage of this unexpected opportunity.

Palinha

Sarr
Bissouma
Bergvall
Maddison
Kulu

OK, I'm a bit euphoric, but...

In: Grealish, De Bruyne, Gomes, Cardoso, KWP plus Solomon, Vuscovic and Devine
Out: Forster, Whiteman, Werner, Reguillon, Bissouma and Robson.
He's a complete bum that gets pissed regularly and doesn't seem to give a shit. He's been afforded the opportunities that Dele sadly wasn't and he still does nothing with it.

No way should we go anywhere near him. Also if that's our window we would have the same struggles as this season.

Ange is big on Gray.

Put him on to close out the game in the EL Final. Stated him the next game after he struggled against Liverpool.

I think we cash in on Biss or Bentancur before sending Gray on loan

Thats the problem with this club. We spend money on the wrong players. Richarlison and Solanke?

Its great we won a cup, but lets be honest. We beat one live team in Frankfurt.

Lets treat the cup win as an opportunity to put things right. Dont start believing we have a good team cos we dont. Were 17th.

Can't see him joining another PL side. He's still class.

Just highlights the difference between us and City. As soon as one of their players start to decline (even a club legend like him), they get them out of the door. We hold on to players for far too long.

I love Son, but there's no question he's declining. He's won his trophy now, cemented himself as a legend, unless he can accept a rotation role from now on, it wouldn't be a terrible idea for him to leave.

"The diff between us and City....."

Nah; pretty sure there's a far more glaring one.

Rhymes with heating, hoping, hent hunts.

I think Son will either leave this summer or accept he’s a squad player now

Which means we need to go all out for a serious top level left winger to raise us, worth bidding for Rodrygo, worst he can say is no

If not and Villa miss out on champions league, with their financial trouble, knock at their door with 50 million for rogers, that kid would suit us so well

Send Tel back unless he wants to be a backup striker to Solanke

I've always rated Bissouma but eventually I thought it would be best to part ways but his performances in the semi and final has made me change my mind again.

If we are bringing in two CM's I would Still sell Bentancur and loan out Gray. Loaning Gray out would mean we can bring an older player like Palinha in with no worry about who eventually replaces him when it's time (providing Gray does well when loaned out).

Selling Bentencaur AND loaning out Gray leaves a 2 man hole......

We'll need bodies with CL to cope with.

Eze
Cherki
Ederson
Jonathan David (bearing in mind he’s a free good quality option - I’d take Delap if funds available)

High-level CB

Working on the basis we send Tel back plus another player at the top end departing.

If Romero goes then 2 x high level CB
I can't escape the feeling that if we do let Tel go, we'll regret it in the long run.

I don't have anything to back that feeling up, other than thinking that there is a serious talent there that will explode when everything clicks.

Still think Eze would be the ideal signing. His ball retention and ball carrying/taking players out of the game is probably the best in the league. 1 v1 ability is something were massively short on
